State Championship set for Big Hill Oct 2&3
July 25, 1999 -
There's still time to qualify for the Kansas Championship which in turn will qualify you for the American Bassfishing Club National Championship to be held next spring. To Qualify for the Kansas Championship you must fish at least three one day qualifying tournaments and have over 300 pts. There are three one day tournaments remaining before the state championship on the 2nd and 3rd of Oct. 31 July at Big Hill, 4 Sep at Wilson Lake and 18 Sep at
Hillsdale.

Terry Knueppel wins on Hillsdale
July 11, 1999 -
Terry Knuppel of Haysville caught a limit of largemouth on Hillsdale with an early morning top water bite. Terry finished eleven pounds over his nearest competitor. He fished a shad color Zara Spook near the dam to catch
his 15.74 lbs. and took big bass honors with a largemouth that weighed 4.37
lbs. Shawn Hinkle took second place fishing out off the back of Terry's boat. He caught two fish on a white buzzbait.

In the Jr. Angler tournament A.J. Avery took first place with a 1.15
lb. Largemouth.

Rocky Strange wins ABC on ElDorado
June 26, 1999 -
Rocky Strange fished the Walnut River to catch his limit weighting 11.63 lbs. He fished this tournament as a non-boater and caught his fish on a spider grub on laydowns. Terry Knueppel finished second with a limit of
smallmouth weighing 9.05 lbs. Terry caught his fish on plastic worms and
spinnerbaits on rocky points.

The next ABC tournament is at Big Hill out of Timber Hill. Registration
starts at 5:00 A.M. to 5:30 A.M. the tournament will start at safelight.
Entry fee is $40.00 with a 75% payback and $5.00 optional big bass pot..

 

Ed Watson Wins ABC at Milford Lake
The Kansas district of American BassFishing Club Tournament Trail conducted its second Qualifying tournament on 29 May at Milford Lake. The tournament winner Ed Watson Caught is fish using a Spinnerbait and Jig and Pig in lay downs along the shore in Rush Creek and weighed in 2 fish at 4lbs.14ozs. Most anglers reported catching good numbers of short Smallmouth bass. The lake was 4 feet above pool and very stained. Shawn Hinkle took second with 2 fish at 3lbs.5ozs. He used rubber crawfish in brown and orange color around the marina to catch his fish. Big bass went to Ed Watson with a 3.0 smallmouth.

In the Jr. Angler Division Kyle Knueppel took top honors with one fish that weighed 3lbs.15ozs. (note) that beat the Adults. Kyle cough his fish on a pumpkinseed worm in the rock quarry area. Outhers competing in the Jr. Angler division where Kyle Swanson, A.J Avery and Wes Proctor.
The American Bassfishing Club Tournament Trail consists of over 150 Tournaments in 15 States that culminates in a National Championship the following spring. The top 300 National point holders are invited to the Championship along with the top Jr. Anglers from each district. The 1998 Championship paid out over 25,000 in cash and prizes.

Our Format is ideal for anglers at any level. Local, one day draw tournaments with no late fee and no pre-registration. Two day District Championship at the end of each District season. Boaters are guaranteed boat usage. Non Boaters will be drawn at the morning meeting following registration. Jr. Anglers 17 and under will fish with the boater that brings them.

Randy Kelly wins inaugural Kansas ABC tournament at Big Hill
The first Kansas American Bass Fishing Club (ABC) tournament was held on Big Hill on May 1st. Randy Kelly won with 19.99 lbs. Randy used a Stanley spinnerbait spiked with Spoof Fish Attractant in the grass around the bridge to catch his limit. Ed Watson finished 2nd with 4 fish weighing 16.37 lbs. -- one of which tipped the scale at 7.12lbs. The fish took Big Bass honors. Ed caught his fish on a Rapala Skitter Pop the first 30 min. of the tournament. Ben Whisenand caught 3 fish that weighted 13.66 and finished 3rd. Ben was dragging a lizard on main lake points to catch his fish.

Jr. Angler Wesly Proctor Wins Big Hill
In our Jr. angler division, Wesly Proctor finished 1st with 8.86 lbs. Wesly used spinner baits and rattle traps to catch his fish. AJ Avery took 2nd with 1.08. Four Jr. Anglers showed at Big Hill. All Jr. Anglers received a grab bag of lures from Zeiners Bass Pro Shop. (Note: Jr. Anglers fish with their parent or guardian. Anyone who brings a Jr. Angler will not be put in the draw for partner).
