Moore Wins $1 Million Wal-Mart Open;
Fog Delays Start Two Hours

ROGERS, Ark.--(BW SportsWire)--April 20, 2002--After four days of
stiff competition, the $1 million Wal-Mart Open on Beaver Lake boiled
down to a showdown between a rookie and a veteran Saturday as Andre
Moore of Scottsdale, Ariz., topped Randall Hutson of Washburn, Mo., by
13 ounces.

Moore's final-round catch of five bass weighed 10 pounds, 6
ounces, while Hutson, a former Wal-Mart FLW Tour champion, managed to
boat five bass weighing 9 pounds, 13 ounces.

"This is just unbelievable," said Moore, who is fishing his first
full Wal-Mart FLW Tour season. "It is such a confidence builder. I've
had nothing but bad luck for four years. It's truly incredible."

Moore gained the upper hand and $210,000 cash with a prototype
split-tail grub that he was flipping while sight-fishing in protected
pockets outside Indian Creek. He entered Friday's semifinal round of
20 pros in 14th place with a two-day total of eight bass weighing 16
pounds, 13 ounces. After starting from zero with the rest of the
field, he advanced to Saturday's 10-man finale in sixth place with
five bass weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces. Anglers started from zero
again Saturday after a two hour fog delay and fished for the heaviest
five-bass limit.

Hutson earned $105,000 for his second place finish.

Rounding out the top five pros were Rob Harty of Sachse, Texas,
(five bass, 9 pounds, $54,500); Kellogg's pro and two-time Wal-Mart
Open champion Clark Wendlandt of Cedar Park, Texas, (five bass, 8
pounds, 11 ounces, $39,000); and Yamaha pro Dean Rojas of Lake Havasu
City, Ariz., (five bass, 8 pounds, 2 ounces, $33,500).

Competition began Wednesday with a 350-angler field comprising 175
pros who fish from the front of each boat and 175 co-anglers who fish
from the back of each boat. Co-angler Bobby Hendricks of Bullard,
Texas, won $40,000 cash plus a $500 Castrol bonus Friday with two bass
weighing 4 pounds, 1 ounce.

The next stop on the seven-event, $5.1 million Wal-Mart FLW Tour
is Old Hickory Lake near Gallatin, Tenn., May 15-18 where the winning
pro will earn $110,000 cash.

At the end of the season, the top 48 pros and co-anglers advance
to the Wal-Mart FLW Tour Championship featuring a new, bracketed style
format and an $800,000 cash purse. More than $300,000 was added to the
championship purse for 2002. The winning pro receives $260,000 -- the
largest cash award of any professional bass fishing series.

Named after Ranger Boats founder, Forrest L. Wood, the Wal-Mart
FLW Tour is run by FLW Outdoors, the world's leading marketer of
competitive fishing tournaments. The organization operates 170
tournaments through the Wal-Mart FLW Tour, EverStart Series, Wal-Mart
Bass Fishing League, Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail, Wal-Mart RCL
Walleye Circuit and Ranger M1. FLW Outdoors will award anglers up to
$22 million in 2002.

Wendlandt Still in Hunt for Third $1
Million Wal-Mart Open Title;
Co-angler Hendricks Wins Consecutive
Wal-Mart FLW Tour Titles, $40,000

ROGERS, Ark.--(BW SportsWire)--April 19, 2002--Yamaha pro Dean
Rojas of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., is the top qualifier heading into
the $1 million Wal-Mart Open's final round after landing five bass
weighing 10 pounds, 15 ounces Friday, but all eyes are on Kellogg's
pro Clark Wendlandt of Cedar Park, Texas, who is still in the hunt for
a third Wal-Mart Open win.

If he pulls off a win, it would be Wendlandt's third in the last
four years and a new Wal-Mart FLW Tour record. Wendlandt conquered the
Wal-Mart Open in 1999 and again in 2001. In 2000, he finished 10th.
His earnings from Beaver Lake over that three-year span total
$380,000. A win this year would put another $210,000 in his pocket and
boost his career Wal-Mart FLW Tour earnings to nearly $910,000 --
another tour record. Wendlandt also holds the record for most
semifinal round advances with 16.

The two-time Land O'Lakes Angler of the Year will have to overcome
stiff competition from Rojas and other tour veterans to put another
Wal-Mart Open notch in his belt Saturday.

Rojas advanced to Friday's semifinal round in 11th place after
landing eight bass weighing 17 pounds, 2 ounces in the two-day opening
round. Wendlandt was the No. 1 qualifier going into the semifinal
round with a two-day total of nine bass weighing 20 pounds, and while
Rojas jumped into the lead, he slid to second Friday with five bass
weighing 9 pounds, 14 ounces.

Contrary to his usually soft spoken nature, Wendlandt is exuding
confidence going into the finals. "This lake has been great to me. I
like the people here, and I'm comfortable," he said. "I'm catching
fish sight-fishing, and that has been working pretty well for me. If
it rains, I have a couple of other patterns working, too. I like my
chances, and I'm looking forward to it. I've won here before doing the
exact same thing."

Rounding out the top five finalists are Jeffrey Thomas of
Broadway, N.C. (five bass, 8 pounds, 4 ounces); Rob Harty of Sachse,
Texas (five bass, 8 pounds, 3 ounces); and Mark Pack of Mineola,
Texas, (four bass, 7 pounds, 15 ounces).

Co-angler Bobby Hendricks of Bullard, Texas, won $40,000 cash plus
a $500 Castrol bonus Friday with two bass weighing 4 pounds, 1 ounce.
The win comes just one month after Hendricks won the Wal-Mart FLW Tour
stop on Arkansas' Lake Ouachita, making him the tour's first back to
back tournament winner. His winnings for the two events total more
than $55,000.

William Drown of Roseland, Fla. (three bass, 3 pounds, 15 ounces,
$20,000); Donald Toss of Newport News, Va. (two bass, 3 pounds, 11
ounces, $10,000); Vandy Cameron of Rogers, Ark. (two bass, 3 pounds, 9
ounces, $9,000); and Frank Divis Sr. of Fayetteville, Ark., (two bass,
2 pounds, 6 ounces, $8,000) rounded out the top five co-anglers.

The original field of 350 anglers included 175 pros and 175
co-anglers representing 30 states and Japan. The top 20 pros and
co-anglers started Friday's semifinal round from zero. The top 10 pros
start from zero again Saturday, fishing for the heaviest one-day,
five-bass weight.

Saturday's final takeoff from Prairie Creek Marina in Rogers
starts at 6:05 a.m. The final weigh-in at the Wal-Mart located at 2110
West Walnut in Rogers starts at 2 p.m.

Wendlandt Leads Field Into $1 Million
Wal-Mart Open Semifinals
Brad Paisley to Perform Free Concert

ROGERS, Ark.--(BW SportsWire)--April 18, 2002--After two days of
fishing Beaver Lake's record high waters, Kellogg's pro Clark
Wendlandt of Cedar Park, Texas, emerged as the No. 1 seed heading into
the $1 million Wal-Mart Open semifinals Friday. He netted the lead
with a two-day, opening-round total of nine bass weighing 20 pounds.

Wendlandt has dominated the Wal-Mart Open and the Wal-Mart FLW
Tour since winning his first Land O'Lakes Angler-of-the-Year title in
1997. He won the Wal-Mart Open last season and in 1999, making him the
tournament's only two time champion. In 2000, he finished 10th. He has
a record 16 semifinal round appearances and currently ranks second in
all-time Wal-Mart FLW Tour earnings. Should he win the Wal-Mart Open
for a third time Saturday, he will surpass Rick Clunn of Ava, Mo., as
the all-time earnings leader with nearly $910,000. Wendlandt is also
the tour's only two time Angler of the Year.

Wendlandt took the lead after finishing 12th on opening day with
four bass weighing 9 pounds, 9 ounces. He then landed five bass
weighing 10 pounds, 7 ounces Thursday using a tube and floating worm
to bolster his total weight and advance one step closer to the
tournament's $210,000 winners check.

"In 1999 when I won here, I had no idea where I was going to
fish," said Wendlandt, who, historically, has caught the majority of
his bass on Beaver Lake while sight-fishing. "It's the same thing this
year. I'm just comfortable here. I go out and I don't second-guess
myself. I know what to do, and it usually works."

As has been the case in recent years, the top 20 anglers advancing
to the semifinals were separated by a relatively thin margin. Four
pounds, 4 ounces separated first from 20th. Less than 5 pounds
separated the top 20 last year, and in 2000, the margin was less than
9 pounds.

Mark Pack of Mineola, Texas, claimed the No. 2 spot after
finishing 10th on opening day. His two-day total of 10 bass weighed 19
pounds, 9 ounces. Bernie Shultz of Gainesville, Fla., climbed from
15th place to qualify third with a total of 10 bass weighing 19
pounds, 1 ounce. Aaron Martens of Castaic, Calif., jumped from 13th
place into fourth with eight bass weighing 18 pounds, 9 ounces. Day
one leader Mark Rogers of Naples, Fla., rounded out the top five
qualifiers with nine bass weighing 18 pounds.

Co-angler Vandy Cameron of Rogers, Ark., claimed the No. 1 spot
heading into the final day of co-angler competition with a two-day
total of six bass weighing 11 pounds, 7 ounces. Fred Hill of Roxboro,
N.C., qualified second with five bass weighing 10 pounds, 5 ounces,
and Kendall Martin of Tremont, Ill., took the No. 3 spot with six bass
weighing 10 pounds. The winning co-angler will collect $40,000 cash
Friday.

The original Wal-Mart Open field of 350 anglers included 175 pros
and 175 co-anglers representing 30 states and Japan. The field was
reduced to the top 20 pros and co-angler Thursday and will be cut to
the top 10 pro finalists following Friday's 5 p.m. weigh-in at the
Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 2110 West Walnut in Rogers.
Immediately following the weigh-in, country singing sensation Brad
Paisley will perform a free concert.

Saturday's final takeoff from Prairie Creek Marina in Rogers
starts at 6:30 a.m. followed by a 2 p.m. weigh-in at Wal-Mart.

Rogers Leads $1 million Wal-Mart Open
Kansans Chapman 111th in pros, Holderman 44th in amateur
Rogers, Ark. (April 17, 2002) -
Mark Rogers of Naples, Fla., took control of Beaver Lake's $1 million Wal-Mart Open Wednesday with an opening-day catch of five bass weighing 12 pounds, 8 ounces.

His limit, which was caught on a watermelon seed colored worm flipped to flooded bushes, gives him a 1-pound, 10-ounce lead over Dan Morehead of Paducah, Ky., who landed five bass weighing 10 pounds, 14 ounces. With hefty stringers in hand, both men are in good position to make Thursday's all-important semifinal-round cut and continue their quest toward a $210,000 victory on Beaver Lake's swollen waters.

"I didn't realize how high the water was until I got here last week," said Rogers, who is fishing Beaver Lake for the first time. "It has definitely helped me. I'm not much of a deepwater fisherman. I like hitting the bushes, so these conditions play to my style of fishing."

Dean Rojas of Lake Havasu City, Ariz. (five bass, 10 pounds, 9 ounces); Jack Bell of Kane, Pa. (five bass, 10 pounds, 5 ounces); and Rob Harty of Sachse, Texas, (five bass, 10 pounds) rounded out the top five pros.

Big Bass honors and $1,250 went to Team Stanley pro David Walker of Sevierville, Tenn., who landed a 5-pound, 9-ounce largemouth Wednesday. If the weight holds up Thursday, Walker will receive the Snickers Big Bass award and an additional $1,000. At the end of the seven-tournament, $5.1 million Wal-Mart FLW Tour season, Snickers will award another $5,000 to the angler who caught the heaviest opening-round bass at any event. Currently that distinction goes to Jim Nolan of Bull Shoals, Ark., who caught an 8-pound, 9-ounce largemouth on Arkansas' Lake Ouachita last month.

Co-angler Kendall Martin of Tremont, Ill., leads his division with two bass weighing 8 pounds, 3 ounces followed closely by Bud Goeke of Pinckneyville, Ill., (five bass, 8 pounds) and Vandy Cameron of Rogers, Ark., (four bass, 6 pounds, 15 ounces).

Teddie Harrison of Clewiston, Fla., landed co-angler big bass honors and $750 with a 4-pound, 2-ounce bass that also helped put him in fifth place with a two bass total weighing 6 pounds, 3 ounces.

Like their pro counterparts, co-anglers are fishing for a final-round berth. Competitors in both 175-angler divisions must place in the top 20 Thursday to qualify for Friday's semifinal round. Co-angler competition wraps up after the semifinals with the winner receiving $40,000 cash. The top 10 pros advance to the final round. Saturday's final weigh-in will be broadcast live to more than 84 million households on PAX TV starting at 2 p.m. CST.

Beaver Lake stretches 70 miles through the Ozark Mountains and covers nearly 30,000 acres at normal pool. This year, however, the lake is 9-feet higher than most people are accustomed to seeing it. Despite the above average influx of water from its tributaries, the lake is still relatively clear. Visibility in some areas near Beaver Dam extends 10- to 15-feet deep, making sight-fishing a real possibility during the latter rounds or competition. On Wednesday, however, anglers have had only marginal success with the usually productive technique.

A total of 611 bass weighing 1,006 pounds, 9 ounces were caught Wednesday and more than 99 percent where released alive. If the tour maintains a 98-percent live release rate throughout the season, Energizer will donate $25,000 to the Children's Miracle Network.

Competition on Beaver Lake continues at 7 a.m. Thursday at Prairie Creek Marina in Rogers followed by a 3 p.m. weigh-in. Friday's semifinal-round takeoff from Prairie Creek Marina starts at 7 a.m. followed by a 5 p.m. weigh-in at the Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 2110 West Walnut in Rogers. Immediately following Friday's weigh-in, country singing sensation Brad Paisley will perform a free concert. Saturday's takeoff begins at 6:30 a.m. followed by a 2 p.m. weigh-in at Wal-Mart.

A Family Fun Zone in the Wal-Mart parking lot opens at 3 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday. The Fun Zone offers fishing enthusiasts a chance to meet some of the nation's top anglers, collect autographs and receive expert fishing advice. There are also plenty of children's games to entertain the family. Admission to the concert, Fun Zone and weigh-ins is free. Weigh-ins and a portion of the Fun Zone are housed inside a heated or air conditioned tent in case of inclement weather.

Nation's top anglers prepped
for $1 million Wal-Mart Open on Beaver Lake

Rogers, Ark. (March 28, 2002) - The nation's top bass anglers are heading
for Beaver Lake where they will compete April 17-20 for a share of $1.05
million cash in the Wal-Mart FLW Tour's Wal-Mart Open, Arkansas' most
lucrative professional fishing tournament.

Beaver Lake has been home to the Wal-Mart Open since 1998, one year after
the nation's leading retailer joined FLW Outdoors, the world's leading
marketer of competitive fishing tournaments. Today the Wal-Mart Open is one
of two Wal-Mart FLW Tour events featuring a cash purse in excess of $1
million. The second $1 million tournament, the Forrest Wood Open, will take
place June 19-22 on Lake Champlain near Plattsburgh, N.Y.

One angler with a history of catching quality Beaver Lake bass is Team
Kellogg's angler and two-time Wal-Mart Open champion Clark Wendlandt. He
will be among the 175 pros vying for the tournament's $210,000 first-place
award. Other top pros who will be casting for a win are Team Castrol angler
David Dudley, who made fishing history earlier this month with a $700,000
win in the Ranger M1; reigning Land O'Lakes Angler of the year and current
Angler-of-the-Year points leader Kevin VanDam; and Fujifilm pro and Wal-Mart
FLW Tour champion Wesley Strader.

One hundred and seventy-five co-anglers will also fish the event, bringing
the total tournament roster to 350 anglers representing 30 states and Japan.
Each co-angler fishes from the back of a pro's boat for a top award of
$40,000 cash.

A favorite stop among Wal-Mart FLW Tour veterans, Beaver Lake boasts scenic
beauty and excellent fishing. Anglers can expect to find plenty of
largemouth and spotted bass. A few smallmouth may even find their way to the
scale. This year's tournament is a week earlier than last season's stop, but
stable water levels and a timely warm front could produce a remarkable
catch.

The tournament's final weigh-in will be broadcast live on PAX TV to more
than 84 million households as part of the "FLW Outdoors" television series
airing Saturdays at 3 p.m. EST, 2 p.m. CST and 3 p.m. PST.

Competition on Beaver Lake will commence at 7 a.m. April 17 at Prairie Creek
Marina in Rogers. The marina will host each day's take-off plus the opening
round weigh-ins April 17 and 18 at 3 p.m. On April 19, fishing fans are
invited to join country singing sensation Brad Paisley for a concert at the
Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 2110 West Walnut in Rogers immediately
following the semifinal round weigh-in that starts at 5 p.m. The FLW Tour
Family Fun Zone at Wal-Mart will be open April 19 from 3 to 5 p.m. It will
reopen at 11 a.m. April 20 followed by the final weigh-in at 2 p.m.
Admission to the Fun Zone, weigh-ins and concert is free

The Fun Zone offers fishing enthusiasts a chance to meet some of the nation'
s top anglers, collect autographs and receive expert fishing advice. There
are also plenty of children's games, including the Fujifilm trout pond and
Minn Kota inflatable slide, to entertain the family. Weigh-ins and a portion
of the Fun Zone are housed inside a tent that can be heated or cooled in
case of inclement weather.

Fishing fans can also meet their favorite Chevy Truck Pro Staff anglers
April 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kent Rylee Chevrolet Olds in Rogers. VanDam
will be there along with Larry Nixon, Tommy Biffle, Kim Stricker, David
Fritts, Tom Mann Jr., Jimmy Houston and Denny Brauer.

Twenty anglers in each division advance to the semifinals after two days of
competition. The top 10 pros from the semifinal round advance to the final
day. Co-angler competition concludes after the semifinal round. Anglers
advancing to the semifinal and final rounds start from zero and fish for the
heaviest five-bass limit each day.

At the end of the season, the top 48 professionals and co-anglers advance to
the Wal-Mart FLW Tour Championship. This year's FLW Tour Championship will feature a new, bracketed style format and an $800,000 cash purse - the
largest in professional bass fishing. More than $300,000 was added to the
championship purse for 2002. The winning pro receives $260,000 - the largest
cash award of any competitive bass fishing series.

Added to the list of winners in 2002 is Beaver Lake itself thanks to a
$5,000 donation from Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors and the FishAmerica Foundation to help fund construction of PVC fish shelters that will serve as artificial
habitat. Each year, FLW Outdoors donations, in conjunction with matching
funds, produce more than $100,000 for conservation projects that directly
benefit tournament waters. Since 1998, Beaver Lake has benefited from
$53,000 in grants generated by FLW Outdoors and the FishAmerica Foundation.

For more information on the FishAmerica Foundation, visit the American
Sportfishing Association Web site at asafishing.org. For more information on
the Wal-Mart FLW Tour, visit FLWOutdoors.com or call (270) 362-4880.
