the Rookie Rankings Kansan Brent Chapman in 32ndAfter Ozarks: Some Move, But Not At
Top
October 18, 2006- Following are the BassFan.com
World Rankings as updated after last week's FLW Series event
at Lake of the Ozarks, Mo. Highlights: > There isn't much movement at the top of the
rankings because most of the top anglers in the world don't fish
the FLW Series and because those anglers have fished more events
this year than most FLW Series anglers. > The only Top 10 movement is by Anthony Gagliardi,
who has been a perennial Top 10er now. He moves up to 4th in
the world thanks in part to a 14th at Lake of the Ozarks. > An 8th at the Ozarks puts the underrated Matt
Herren at 11th in the world. > Tennessee's Andy Morgan lands his second 6th-place
finish in a row (the last one was at the FLW Tour Championship),
and moves up six spots to 13th in the world. > Dave Lefebre's 5th at the Ozarks helps him
yo-yo back up in the standings, this time to 20th in the world.
> George Cochran's 15th at the Ozarks is his
second Top 20 finish in a row, which helps him moves up seven
spots to 21st in the world. > Clark Wendlandt has been fishing much more
like himself this season, as evidenced by the fact that he has
finished 3rd twice in a row now and has two other Top 10s this
year and thee finishes in the 20s. He jumps way up the rankings
(17 spots) to 22nd in the world. > Indiana's Chip Harrison Jr. finished 13th
at the Ozarks, his second Top 20 in a row. It was almost his
third in a row as he finished at the Champlain FLW Tour event.
He jumps up 17 spots to 35th in the world. > Ozarks winner Dion Hibdon almost halves his
previous ranking, moving up from 70th to 36th in the world. > Tim Horton's 195th-place finish due to withdrawing
from the tournament hurts him in the rankings. He falls 17 spots
to 55th in the world. Notable > The large number of places moved by some anglers
is a reflection of the fact that most FLW Series anglers have
not fished nearly as many events as Bassmaster Elite Series anglers.
In other words, since there is so much time between the FLW events
as compared to the BASS events, each FLW finish can have more
movement (or "jumping around") associated with it.
> Again, there is a chance that end-of-season
rankings will be adjusted after the last FLW Series event. This
is because the FLW Series is new this year, and thus may be weighted
incorrectly in the field strength area. It is impossible to tell
whether this is so until the FLW Series is finished. _____ BassFan.com World Rankings Top 100 Place Angler City State Points

September 20, 2006 - Following are the BassFan.com
World Rankings as updated after last week's Table Rock, Mo. Bassmaster
Elite Series event. Notable movement: > Kevin VanDam finishes his season ranked No.
1 in the world. This is the fifth time in six years he has achieved
this, an incredible achievement in any sport let alone one so
variable as bass fishing. > VanDam is done for the 2006 season, and even
though two more FLW Series events remain to be counted in the
World Rankings, the chances are slim to none that anyone will
displace him as the No. 1-ranked angler in the world for 2006. > VanDam loses a few World Rankings points,
in part because he finished 13th at Table Rock his second-worst
finish in seven consecutive events. > Bassmaster Angler of the Year Mike Iaconelli
finishes his season ranked 2nd in the world, the highest he's
been except for a week at the No. 1 spot this year. He started
the season ranked 10th in the world, and finishes 8 World Rankings
points behind VanDam. > Greg Hackney, who started the season ranked
No. 1 in the world, finishes at 3rd in the world, 1 point behind
Iaconelli. > Thanks to finishing 2nd at Table Rock, Edwin
Evers gains a few World Rankings points, but remains at 4th in
the world, a rank he's held practically the whole season. > BASS-only anglers Skeet Reese and Gerald Swindle
finish their seasons 8th and 9th in the world, respectively. > Top 10 anglers who can still move up or down
from fishing the FLW Series events are Anthony Gagliardi (5th),
Steve Kennedy (6th), Dean Rojas (7th) and Shinichi Fukae (10th). > There's not much movement in the Top 25 or
so in the rankings, although: Davy Hite drops four spots, from
12th to 16th, thanks in part to a 99th at Table Rock; and Scott
Rook follows up his win of the Arkansas River Major with a 24th
at Table Rock, and climbs four spots in the rankings to 18th. > Peter Thliveros winds up a good year by climbing
nine spots in the World Rankings to 29th, thanks in part to a
16th at Table Rock. He started the season ranked 85th in the
world. > In contrast, Takahiro Omori has had an uncharacteristically
bad season. He has fallen from 7th to 30th in the world this
year. > Similarly, Tim Horton started 2006 at 16th
in the world and is now 38th, in part due to an 88th at Table
Rock. > Table Rock winner Todd Faircloth rockets up
39 spots to 50th in the world. He'll have to fish better next
season to stay ranked that high, or to move up to where he was
in years past. He started the season ranked 63rd. > Two Elite Series rookies to note: Arroyo Grande,
Calif.'s Jared Lintner finishes his season 73rd in the world,
and Cincinnati, Ohio's Bill Lowen finishes ranked 97th. Lintner
has a good shot at winning the BassFan.com Rookie of the Year
Race. Notable > There is a chance that end-of-season rankings
will be adjusted after the last two FLW Series events. This is
because the FLW Series is new this year, and may be weighted
incorrectly in the field strength area. It is impossible to tell
whether this is so until the FLW Series is finished. _____ BassFan.com World Rankings Top 100 Place Angler City State Points 1 Kevin VanDam Kalamazoo MI 226.608 2 Michael Iaconelli Voorhees NJ 218.761 3 Greg Hackney Gonzales LA 217.622 4 Edwin Evers Mannsville OK 200.092 5 Anthony Gagliardi Prosperity SC 196.575 6 Steve Kennedy Auburn AL 194.983 7 Dean Rojas Grand Saline TX 193.320 8 Skeet Reese Auburn CA 192.632 9 Gerald Swindle Hayden AL 190.823 10 Shinichi Fukae Osaka 183.690 11 Tommy Biffle Wagoner OK 183.533 12 Aaron Martens Castaic CA 181.683 13 Kelly Jordon Mineola TX 179.413 14 Matthew Herren Clay AL 176.944 15 Kevin Wirth Crestwood KY 176.132 16 Davy Hite Prosperity SC 175.772 17 Larry Nixon Bee Branch AR 174.258 18 Scott Rook Little Rock AR 173.508 19 Andy Morgan Dayton TN 173.173 20 Jay Yelas Tyler TX 171.511 21 Toshinari Namiki Hachioji City 171.385 22 Brent Chapman Shawnee KS 171.381 23 Stacey D. August 29, 2006 - Following are the BassFan
World Rankings as updated after last week's Bassmaster "Legends"
Major tournament on the Arkansas River. Highlights: > Not much movement overall because BASS pros
have fished many events this year (the season is nearly over),
and because the Majors' small field size affects points allocated
to finishes. > Kevin VanDam tied for 11th at the Arkansas
River, and remains No. 1 in the world. He doesn't gain or lose
hardly any points, mostly because he continues to consistently
fish at his own high level. > Mike Iaconelli and Greg Hackney remain 2nd
and 3rd in the world, respectively though just barely. Hackney
finished 2nd at the Major and gains World Rankings points while
Iaconelli loses a couple of points (he finished 16th). But Iaconelli
holds on to the No. 2 ranking by less than a tenth of a point. > Alabama's Steve Kennedy finished 7th at the
Major, his third Top 10 in a row, starting with the FLW Tour
Championship. He moves up two spots to 5th in the world. > Major winner Scott Rook rockets up 40 spots
to 22nd in the world. As with all winners, he will have to continue
to fish well to stay that high. But with the 2006 season almost
over, he picked a good time to win to end the season ranked high. > Terry Scroggins, who started the season ranked
4th in the world, continues to fish below the level he'd been
fishing at during the prior 2 years. This week he drops six spots
to 25th in the world. > Mike McLelland finished 8th at the Major,
his second 8th-place finish in a row. He moves up six spots to
27th in the world. > Gary Klein has been fishing pretty well this
year. A 5th at the Arkansas River helps him rebound from his
78th at the Potomac, and he gains 15 spots in the rankings. He
is now ranked 32nd in the world. _____ BassFan.com World Rankings Top 100 Place Angler City State Points 1 Kevin VanDam Kalamazoo MI 233.403 2 Michael Iaconelli Voorhees NJ 222.388 3 Greg Hackney Gonzales LA 222.296 4 Edwin Evers Mannsville OK 199.227 5 Steve Kennedy Auburn AL 196.655 6 Anthony Gagliardi Prosperity SC 196.497 7 Dean Rojas Grand Saline TX 195.703 8 Gerald Swindle Hayden AL 192.712 9 Skeet Reese Auburn CA 187.645 10 Shinichi Fukae Osaka 182.746 11 Aaron Martens Castaic CA 181.715 12 Davy Hite Prosperity SC 181.214 13 Tommy Biffle Wagoner OK 179.432 14 Kelly Jordon Mineola TX 178.092 15 Matthew Herren Clay AL 178.002 16 Kevin Wirth Crestwood KY 177.057 17 Larry Nixon Bee Branch AR 176.187 18 Andy Morgan Dayton TN 175.729 19 Toshinari Namiki Hachioji City 172.615 20 Stacey D. August 17, 2006 - Following are the BassFan.com
World Rankings as updated after last week's Bassmaster Elite
Series event on the Potomac River in Maryland. Highlights:
> Overall, as expected this late in the season, there isn't
much significant movement meaning moves up or down by four,
five or more places.

> Kevin VanDam remains No. 1 in the world, though he finished
30th at the Potomac, his worst finish in the last seven tournaments
and his third-worst finish all year. He drops a point, and his
16-point lead over the No. 2-ranked angler is now down to 9 points.

> No. 2 in the world is Mike Iaconelli again, helped by his
4th-place finish at the Potomac.

> Like VanDam, Greg Hackney only loses a point or so, but
since Iaconelli gained points, Hackney falls to No. 3 in the
world despite finishing 12th and 13th in the last two events.

> Other than that, no big changes in the Top 10 in the world
except that Gerald Swindle is back in and Kevin Wirth falls out.

> Aaron Martens has been finishing up the season in a strong
way, and this week moves up two spots to 11th in the world.

> Potomac winner Kelly Jordon who at one time was ranked
No. 1 in the world jumps up a huge 32 spots to 16th in
the world. He will have to continue finishing high in what remains
of the season to stay at that level.

> Mike McLelland, who finished 8th at the Potomac and won
a tournament this year, jumps 18 spots to 33rd in the world.

After FLWTC, Lots Of Moving Around
August 8, 2006 - VanDam still has comfortable
lead Following are the BassFan.com World Rankings as
updated after last week's FLW Tour Championship on Alabama's
Logan Martin Lake. Notable items: > With the exception of Steve Kennedy, who moves
four spots to 7th in the world, there isn't much movement in
the Top 10 though because of the rolling 2 calendar years, Greg
Hackney does creep by Mike Iaconelli (by less than half a point)
to regain the No. 2 spot. > The lack of Top 10 movement is because few
anglers currently in the Top 10 in the world fish the FLW Tour,
and because championships are now weighted differently than in
years past, notably because of the smaller field size relative
to regular-season events. > However, there is a lot of movement in the
lower ranks, as FLW Tour anglers gain or lose World Rankings
points. Remember that FLW Tour anglers for the most part fish
fewer events spaced more widely apart than Bassmaster Elite Series
anglers, so they tend to move around more in the rankings after
each event. > Notable cases of double-digit movement: George
Cochran (up 10 spots to 26th), David Dudley (up 10 to 28th),
Gary Yamamoto (up 11 to 31st) and FLWTC runner-up Ray Scheide,
who moves up 12 spots to 43rd in the world. > Jay Yelas, who caught the most weight at the
FLWTC but finished 5th, climbs nine spots to 24th in the world. > This year's Bassmaster Classic champ Luke
Clausen, who finished a lucky 13th at the FLWTC, moves up eight
spots to 32nd in the world. > Because of all of this movement, several BASS-only
pros fall in the rankings, including Peter Thliveros, Jeff Reynolds
and Mark Tucker, among others. > FLWTC winner Brent Ehrler moves up 18 spots
to 100th in the world. The reason for his somewhat low ranking
is that he hasn't fished well overall the last 2 years. _____ BassFan.com World Rankings Top 100 1 Kevin VanDam Kalamazoo MI 234.795 2 Greg Hackney Gonzales LA 218.862 3 Michael Iaconelli Voorhees NJ 218.578 4 Edwin Evers Mannsville OK 202.876 5 Anthony Gagliardi Prosperity SC 201.372 6 Dean Rojas Grand Saline TX 197.281 7 Steve Kennedy Auburn AL 190.269 8 Skeet Reese Auburn CA 186.498 9 Davy Hite Prosperity SC 185.844 10 Kevin Wirth Crestwood KY 184.990 11 Gerald Swindle Hayden AL 183.666 12 Matthew Herren Clay AL 181.852 13 Shinichi Fukae Osaka 181.619 14 Aaron Martens Castaic CA 181.593 15 Tommy Biffle Wagoner OK 177.972 16 Terry Scroggins Palatka FL 177.804 17 Larry Nixon Bee Branch AR 176.552 18 Toshinari Namiki Hachioji City 176.458 19 Brent Chapman Shawnee KS 175.917 20 Andy Morgan Dayton TN 175.603 21 Stacey D. VanDam continues to hold lead
August 2, 2006 - VanDam Still On Top, Ike And
Hack Close Following are the BassFan World Rankings as updated
after last week's Bassmaster American Major event on the Carolinas'
Lake Wylie. Highlights: > Kevin VanDam remains No. 1 in the world, and
extends his World Rankings points lead to 15 points (from 8)
thanks in part to finishing 2nd at Wylie. The way VanDam has
been fishing, it looks like no one will be able to overtake him
at the top spot by the end of the year. He has finished in the
Top 10 64% of the time this year. That's a pretty shocking statistic. > Mike Iaconelli remains No. 2 in the world,
but just by a hair. He finished 37th out of 55, which helped
his World Rankings points drop to 218.549 just 0.131 points above
Greg Hackney, who remains 3rd in the world. Hackney finished
13th at Wylie, his best finish in five events. > There isn't much movement in the rankings
until Peter Thliveros, who is now 17th in the world thanks in
part to tying for 16th at Wylie. Peter T. is having a good, under-the-radar
year. > Wylie winner Dave Wolak jumps up 34 spots
to 20th in the world, but like all winners will have to continue
to fish well to stay that high. > Jason Quinn, whose home lake is Wylie, finished
4th at the American. That helped him jump 12 spots to 39th in
the world. Notable > There wasn't much movement in this edition
of the BassFan World rankings for a couple of reasons: 1) Majors
have a small field (and thus a lower "size of field"
factor); 2) We are approaching the end of the season, which means
less movement overall as most fishermen are in a performance
"groove," good or bad. _____ BassFan.com World Rankings Top 100 Place Angler City State Points 1 Kevin VanDam Kalamazoo MI 233.704 2 Michael Iaconelli Voorhees NJ 218.549 3 Greg Hackney Gonzales LA 218.418 4 Edwin Evers Mannsville OK 202.879 5 Anthony Gagliardi Prosperity SC 193.785 6 Dean Rojas Grand Saline TX 190.616 7 Davy Hite Prosperity SC 187.475 8 Skeet Reese Auburn CA 187.133 9 Kevin Wirth Crestwood KY 185.740 10 Gerald Swindle Hayden AL 183.652 11 Steve Kennedy Auburn AL 182.537 12 Aaron Martens Castaic CA 182.303 13 Tommy Biffle Wagoner OK 178.209 14 Terry Scroggins Palatka FL 177.953 15 Matthew Herren Clay AL 176.115 16 Shinichi Fukae Osaka 173.634 17 Peter Thliveros Jacksonville FL 172.393 18 Stacey D. July 17, 2006 -Following are the BassFan.com
World Rankings as updated after last week's Bassmaster Elite
Series event on Lake Champlain. Highlights: > Kevin VanDam posted his third Top 10 finish
in a row at Champlain (9th) and regains the No. 1 spot, a rank
he has not held since March. Will he finish the season No. 1
in the world? If so, that would be an incredible five of six
years (Greg Hackney was No. 1 last year). > A 66th at Champlain helps Mike Iaconelli drop
back to No. 2 in the world, and is now 8 points behind VanDam. > A 54th at Champlain helps Greg Hackney drop
a couple of points in the rankings, but he is still 6 points
behind Iaconelli. Hackney's last good finish was five tournaments
ago (Eagle Mountain Lake Major). > Edwin Evers tied Hackney for 54th, missing
a chance to gain some points on him in the rankings. Evers remains
4th in the world. > Tommy Biffle won at Oneida and then finished
5th at Champlain. He's hot, and moves up again this time it's
seven spots to 13th in the world. > A 2nd at Champlain helps Brent Chapman
move up seven spots to 19th in the world. > Similarly, an 11th-place finish helps Zell
Rowland up nine spots to 20th in the world. > Tim Horton had his worst finish of the year
by far at Champlain (95th) and falls seven spots to 21st in the
world. > Takahiro Omori also falls seven spots in the
rankings to 25th after an 85th at Champlain. > Champlain winner Denny Brauer jumps up 39
spots to37th in the world. He will have to keep finishing high
to stay at that spot in the World Rankings. > Keep an eye on Mike Wurm, who is slowly rising

July 12, 2006 - Following are the BassFan.com
World Rankings as updated after last week's Oneida Lake Bassmaster
Elite Series event. > Mike Iaconelli is the No. 1 angler in the
world for the first time in his career. He finished tied for
6th at Oneida > But Iaconelli only has a slim half-a-point
lead over perennial No. 1-ranked Kevin VanDam, who finished 3rd
at Oneida, his second 3rd-place finish in a row. That is a testament
to how well VanDam has fished since his DQ at Santee Cooper,
which has lowered his average finish for the season (excluding
the Bassmaster Classic) to 24.5 vs. 13.0 for Iaconelli. > Greg Hackney falls two spots to 3rd in the
world, his lowest ranking in a while. He is helped there by finishing
65th, 45th and 35th in the last three BASS events. He is now
about 5 1/2 points behind VanDam. Other Notable Movement > Tim Horton's 10th at Oneida helps him climb
up eight spots to 14th in the world. > Tommy Biffle's win at Oneida shoots him up
32 spots in the rankings to 20th in the world. To stay that high,
he must continue to fish at a high level. > Peter T. is having a good year. He finished
16th at Oneida and is now ranked 21st in the world. > Dave Wolak, last year's BASS and BassFan Rookie
of the Year, had his best finish of the year at Oneida (4th),
which helps him climb 15 spots to 55th in the world. _____ BassFan.com World Rankings Top 100 Place Angler City State Points 1 Michael Iaconelli Voorhees NJ 227.677 2 Kevin VanDam Kalamazoo MI 227.151 3 Greg Hackney Gonzales LA 221.787 4 Edwin Evers Mannsville OK 211.970 5 Dean Rojas Grand Saline TX 195.689 6 Anthony Gagliardi Prosperity SC 195.076 7 Skeet Reese Auburn CA 191.990 8 Kevin Wirth Crestwood KY 191.889 9 Davy Hite Prosperity SC 187.900 10 Steve Kennedy Auburn AL 184.851 11 Aaron Martens Castaic CA 181.327 12 Gerald Swindle Hayden AL 181.088 13 Terry Scroggins Palatka FL 178.185 14 Tim Horton Muscle Shoals AL 177.136 15 Matthew Herren Clay AL 177.059 16 Shinichi Fukae Osaka 176.472 17 Larry Nixon Bee Branch AR 174.372 18 Takahiro Omori Emory TX 173.476 19 Stacey D. Not Much Change After Final FLW Event June 29, 2006 - Following are the BassFan
World Rankings as updated after last week's final regular-season
FLW Tour event of 2006, at Vermont's/New York's Lake Champlain.
Highlights: > The Top 12 in the world don't change. Of those
Top 12, only Dean Rojas (BASS and FLW), Anthony Gagliardi (FLW
only) and Steve Kennedy (BASS and FLW) fished the event. > Rojas finished 70th, which dropped his World
Rankings points a little, but not much. He's still 5th in the
world. > Gagliardi finished 44th, enough to win FLW
Angler of the Year but not great from a World Rankings perspective.
But like Rojas, he doesn't lose many points and remains where
he is, at 6th in the world. > Steve Kennedy didn't do much better, finishing
47th, but stays at 11th in the world. > A 5th at Champlain helps Japan's Shinichi
Fukae jump 11 spots to 14th in the world. > A 197th at Champlain helps Takahiro Omori
fall three spots to 16th. > Brent Chapman yo-yos back down again this
week after a 143rd at Champlain. He is now ranked 24th in the
world. > David Dudley appears to have gotten serious
about his fishing again. At Champlain he posted his fourth Top
20 finish in a row and jumps up 10 spots to 38th in the world. > North Carolina's Tracy Adams, who won at Champlain,
jumps up 54 spots in the rankings to 85th in the world. > In what remains of the year, BASS and two-league
pros will have more chances to move up and down in the World
Rankings as only the FLW Tour Championship remains for FLW Tour-only

Tighter Top 3 June 19, 2006 Following are the BassFan
World Rankings as updated after last week's Kentucky Lake Bassmaster
Elite Series event. Top 10 Movement > Though Kevin VanDam finished 3rd in the tournament
and Greg Hackney and Mike Iaconelli finished 45th and 39th respectively,
the order of the Top 3 anglers in the world doesn't change. It's
still Hackney, Iaconelli and VanDam. But thanks to those finishes,
it's much tighter in the Top 3 now, with just 9 points separating
the anglers instead of 17. Hackney's World Rankings points lead
is down to five, from 11. It's still very much a horse race to
see who will be No. 1 in the world at the end of the year. > Kevin Wirth's 2nd at Kentucky Lake helps him
climb back up the Top 10 ladder to 7th in the world. > Gerald Swindle is back in the Top 10 at 10th.
He was helped in part by Terry Scroggins falling out of the Top
10 thanks to his 92nd at Kentucky Lake. Other Notable Movement > Brent Chapman's third mid-teens finish
in a row helps him jump five spots in the World Rankings to 16th. > Jeff Kriet's first Top 10 finish of the year
(6th) helps him jump up 14 spots to 21st in the world. > Virginia's John Crews started the season ranked
just above the 100th mark and has been on a tear ever since.
A 5th last week helps him rise eight spots to 31st in the world. > Kelly Jordon yo-yos back up at Kentucky Lake.
His 11th-place finish yo-yos him back up in the World Rankings
to 34th. > Kentucky Lake winner Morizo Shimizu rockets
up 46 spots to 73rd in the world. _____ BassFan.com World Rankings Top 100 Place Angler City State Points 1 Greg Hackney Gonzales LA 229.457 2 Michael Iaconelli Voorhees NJ 224.032 3 Kevin VanDam Kalamazoo MI 220.701 4 Edwin Evers Mannsville OK 209.528 5 Dean Rojas Grand Saline TX 197.668 6 Anthony Gagliardi Prosperity SC 195.345 7 Kevin Wirth Crestwood KY 194.664 8 Skeet Reese Auburn CA 194.017 9 Davy Hite Prosperity SC 186.858 10 Gerald Swindle Hayden AL 185.491 11 Steve Kennedy Auburn AL 184.491 12 Aaron Martens Castaic CA 181.850 13 Takahiro Omori Emory TX 181.834 14 Terry Scroggins Palatka FL 180.639 15 Matthew Herren Clay AL 176.690 16 Brent Chapman Shawnee KS 174.357 17 Stacey D. Following are the BassFan World Rankings as updated
after last week's Old Hickory Lake (Tenn.) FLW Series and Grand
Lake (Okla.) Bassmaster Elite Series events. Top 10 Movement > A 35th at Grand Lake causes Greg Hackney to
lose a couple of World Rankings points, but he is still the No.
1 angler in the world. But his 15-point lead in World Rankings
points is down to less than 11, and Kevin VanDam isn't right
behind him anymore. > Mike Iaconelli's 10th-place finish at Grand
Lake was his seventh Top 20 finish in a row, and that helps move
him up one spot to No. 2 in the world, the first time he's been
that high. No one is fishing as consistently well as Iaconelli
right now. > Kevin VanDam finished 26th at Grand, and although
his World Rankings score doesn't change much, he's now 6 points
behind Iaconelli and is No. 3 in the world. > Edwin Evers continues to fish well, with a
4th at Grand. He gains a couple of points and is closer to 3rd
than before, but remains 4th in the world. > A 5th at Grand helps Dean Rojas climb back
up a spot to 5th in the world. > A 15th at Old Hickory helps Anthony Gagliardi
jump up four spots to 6th in the world. > There's some shifting around in places 7 through
10, with only Gerald Swindle falling out of the Top 10 after
his 61st at Grand. Other Movement > Alabama's Matt Herren regains Top Gun territory
with a 9th at Old Hickory, his second 9th in a row. He jumps
up a big 11 spots to 15th in the world. > A 20th at Old Hickory helps Stacey King climb
in the rankings. He's now 16th in the world. > A 19th at Old Hickory helps Tennessee's Andy
Morgan jump up 10 spots to 18th in the world. > Larry Nixon's 17th at Old Hickory helps him
rise three spots to 20th in the world. > An 18th at Grand helps 2005 Top Gun champ
Brent Chapman gain a few points in the World Rankings, but he
still falls a spot thanks to the anglers above him also gaining
points. > David Walker's 6th at Old Hickory is his second
Top 10 finish in a row and his third Top 11 in a row. He jumps
back up into Top Gun qualification, but barely, at 24th in the
world. > A 97th at Grand helps Oklahoma's Jeff Reynolds
fall eight spots to 25th in the world. He's on the bubble for
Top Gun. > Grand Lake winner Mike McClelland rockets
up 37 spots and is now 34th in the world. But he must continue
to finish high to stay there. > Old Hickory winner Sam Lashlee debuts on the
World Rankings list at 352nd. He was a local in that event, so
unless he fishes other events at this level and does well, he
will fall in the rankings. Notable > Reminder: FLW Series and FLW Tour anglers
appear to rise and fall "more" (in terms of points)
in the World Rankings, but this is because there are fewer of
these events vs. Bassmaster Elite Series events. In general terms,
the more you fish, the less you tend to move assuming consistent
performance up or down each time a new edition of the World Rankings
is published. > Top Gun Championship qualification is limited
to the Top 25 in the world, according to the BassFan World Rankings,
plus the anglers of the year for each tour/series. This year
Top Gun (and the Skeeter BassFan Army Weekend Warrior Championship)
will be held on a Dallas, TX-area lake. The competition days
are Sept. 21-23 (Sept. 17-18 for the Weekend Warrior Championship). _____ BassFan.com World Rankings Top 100 Place Angler City State Points 1 Greg Hackney Gonzales LA 236.566 2 Michael Iaconelli Voorhees NJ 225.826 3 Kevin VanDam Kalamazoo MI 219.480 4 Edwin Evers Mannsville OK 206.636 5 Dean Rojas Grand Saline TX 197.988 6 Anthony Gagliardi Prosperity SC 194.688 7 Skeet Reese Auburn CA 189.050 8 Davy Hite Prosperity SC 188.121 9 Terry Scroggins Palatka FL 187.903 10 Kevin Wirth Crestwood KY 185.830 11 Steve Kennedy Auburn AL 185.639 12 Takahiro Omori Emory TX 184.789 13 Gerald Swindle Hayden AL 184.676 14 Aaron Martens Castaic CA 182.264 15 Matthew Herren Clay AL 177.084 16 Stacey D. Hackney widens lead, Ike right behind
KVD

May 24, 2006 - Following are the BassFan.com
World Rankings as updated after last week's Bassmaster Memorial
Major event. Highlights: > Greg Hackney widens his World Rankings points
lead over Kevin VanDam, from 6 points to now 15 points. Hackney
finished 6th at the Memorial and VanDam finished about halfway
down, at 26th. > Now would be an instructive time to look at
Hackney's vs. VanDam's finishes this year, excluding the Bassmaster
Classic. They stack up like this: - Hack 4, 1, 11, 43, 41, 6. Average finish = 17.6. - KVD 6, 3, 104, 4, 50, 26. Average finish = 32.2
including DQ, 17.8 without it. - That's three Top 10s (one a win) for Hackney
and three Top 10s for VanDam. But VanDam has done slightly worse
overall, and as we've said before was hurt significantly in the
World Rankings vs. Hackney as a result of his Santee Cooper DQ
(104th place there). Bottom line: Both are fishing extremely
well. - Their finishes are being helped a little by the
smaller fields in the Elite Series and Major events but are being
hurt by the lower strengths of fields vs. prior Bassmaster years.
The smaller fields also can "hurt" in the rankings.
For example, finishing halfway down in a small, 55-man field
(last week's Memorial) didn't help VanDam much.
> Mike Iaconelli, who finished 2nd at the Memorial,
is now less than a point behind VanDam in the World Rankings.
Here's how Ike has fished this year, excluding the Classic: 16,
13, 18, 1, 12, 2. Average finish: 10.3. He's on fire. > Edwin Evers remains solidly 4th in the world.
Even with a 3rd at the Major, he is still 21 points behind Iaconelli. > A 5th at the Memorial helps Skeet Reese jump
back up six spots to 5th in the world. > There's some shifting in the rankings between
6th and 10th, but everyone who was there stays there except Kevin
Wirth. Wirth's 54th at the Major helps drop him three places
to 11th in the world. > Mark "Big Guns" Tucker finished
tied for 39th at the Major, but still jumped up a huge 15 spots
to 16th in the world. How did he (and a few others) do it? Here's
what our stats guru said about it: "The biggest factor has
to do with the tournament schedule. Generally speaking, the more
events you fish, the less any single event affects your overall
average. In this sense, pros with lighter schedules have more
volatile rankings one good finish pushes them up more, one bad
finish pushes them down more. A good comparison here is between
Mark Tucker and Zell Rowland. Tucker finished 39th and moved
up 15 places to 16th in the world, and Rowland finished 24th
but didn't budge from 19th place. Why does this make sense? Because
Rowland fishes a lot more than Tucker (25 events vs. 12). Insofar
as we have more of a history for Rowland, our evaluation of him
(i.e., his rank) changes less from week to week, whereas Tucker's
rank rises and falls substantially with each new tournament result.
Consider Tucker's movement in the rankings in the 4 weeks leading
up to now: -7, +35, -4, +15. Compare this to Rowland over the
same period: -2, +1, +3, 0. Because he fishes a full schedule,
Rowland is much more of a "known quantity" [statistically
-Ed.], and his ranking will tend to be less volatile
than someone like Tucker, who has fished half as many events
and therefore (roughly speaking) has twice as much to gain or
