Glasgow boats two limits to
capture Arkansas National Title on Dardanelle
Russellville, AR April 23, 2005 -Wind gusting to 25mph
from the northwest, with dropping temperatures, did not prevent
the women anglers providing a great weigh-in here on Lake Dardanelle.
The WBFA Tour Beauty & The Bass event concluded today with
a final weigh-in at Dardanelle State Park. Beautiful weather
on the bank however, proved to provide tough bass fishing conditions
for the anglers out on the lake.
The Dardanelle A.P. Board acted as host for this, the fourth
point-carrying tournament event in the 2005 WBFA Tour season.
Preliminary work by the Lake Dardanelle Lady Anglers, an affiliated
bass club of the WBFA, provided loads of information for the
contenders, great hospitality and recognition from the community,
and made the event a very enjoyable one for all. Lake Dardanelle
is a premier bass fishery and the facilities at Dardanelle State
Park are state-of-the-art when it comes to bass tournament mechanics
and protecting the lake's great natural resource.
The women anglers were allowed to trailer to their various destinations
because of the predicted, windy conditions. They still
had to be out of the water and checked in on time at Lake Dardanelle
State Park's weigh-in facility for the 3pm final weigh-in however.
Safety of the anglers is a very high priority of the WBFA Tour
tournament officials.
Despite two days of very windy conditions, and dropping temperatures,
Sheri Glasgow managed to bring two limits of bass to the weigh-in,
and captured the Arkansas National Title. Her two-day total
was 27.04 pounds of bass, and she also took the second-day lunker
award of over $400
with a bass weighing 3.91 pounds. Local favorite, Joan
Craig of London, AR, placed second with 21.62 pounds and Lisa
Sternard from Clarksville, TN finished third with 21.40 pounds.
Rounding out the top 5 were Pam Martin Wells hailing from Bainbridge,
GA and Cheryl Lalumandier from Harvester, MO.
The non-boater winner, Dianne Kegley, of Norphlet, AR brought
a two-day total 14.68 pounds to the scales and took the second-day
lunker award of over $300, with a 3.78-pound bass. Debbie
Pegoli from Loveland, OH finished second with 10.71 pounds.
Finishing out the top 5 were; Laura Moore of Vidor, TX, Robin
Babb from Livingston, TX and Tammy Ply hailing from Harrison,
AR.
The WBFA Tou's final 2005 season stop will be on Lake Eufaula
in Eufaula, AL in June. The top finishers for the season
will be decided there. The Lake Eufaula event will also
serve to kick off the 2006 season.

NORTH WIND BLOWING BEAUTIES
ON LAKE DARDANELLE
April 23, 2005 - Thunderstorms rumbled across Lake Dardanelle
during the wee hours Friday morning, but quickly cleared to provide
a smooth first-day takeoff for the WBFA Tour Beauty & The
Bass event. Though late-afternoon winds were predicted
to reach 15 to 25 mph, they were gusting up to 37mph by noon.
Not only did this development provide difficult fishing conditions
for the Women anglers, running back to the weigh-in site became
an unsafe and very tricky proposition. Four to six foot
swells made running, or crossing, the main lake almost impossible.
Concerned for participant safety, Tournament Director, Willie
Cook, made the decision to allow anglers to be trailered back
to the weigh-in site. Many of the anglers took advantage
of this safety precaution, though almost 50% of the field made
it back without trailering. Wet, cold and wind-tossed was
the norm for those that did brave the run back. By the
Grace of God no one suffered personal injury or damage to fishing
equipment.
Fifteen States are represented in the ranks of anglers participating
in this the fourth qualifying event of the 2005 WBFA Tour season.
There is also a competitor from Japan, who is fishing her third
event on the tour.
Top five anglers in the Pro Division include: Pam Martin Wells
of Bainbridge, GA, Sheri Glasgow, from Muskogee, OK, local favorite
Joan Craig from London, AR, Lisa Sternard hailing from Clarksville,
TN and Cheryl Lalumandier from Harvester, MO. Wells is
the first day leader with 14.12 pounds of bass.
Debbie Pegoli of Loveland, OH, leads the Non-Boater Division
with 8.25 pounds. Rounding out the top five are: Dianne
Kegley, from Norphlet, AR, local Mary James hailing from London,
AR, Lisa Craig of Chandler, TX and Tammy Ply of Harrison, AR.
Two-time World Champion, Judy Wong, of Sugar Land, TX took todayâ¤s
Pro's lunker award with a 4-pound bass.
Amateur Lunker award went to Robin Babb of Livingston, TX with
a 4.24-pound bass.
â¤With tomorrowâ¤s prediction
being very close to todayâ¤s, I have decided
to allow the anglers to trailer to their favorite launch, fish
their area, and trailer back to the weigh-in site,
Cook said about the final dayâ¤s competition.
When asked how that process would work fairly for all, Cook replied;
â¤The competitors must put in and take out at the
same launch, they cannot take out and trailer to any other launch,
and they will all honor a first-cast time of 6:05 am.
â¤The final weigh-in will still begin at 3 pm promptly
on Saturday at Lake Dardanelle State Park, Cook
said.
The WBFA Tour is the only national tournament trail where women
can competitively bass fish amongst their peers. The WBFA
Tour is sponsored nationally by: Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits,
