December 31, 2004 - Kimberling City Area - Submitted by Bass Boat Magazine -Water timep 50 degrees. Did well on tube,Big Bass's new lure, and 5/8 football jigs. Main lake points 28' - 35' with timber were holding shad. Damn area was a 48-50 degrees. Again main lake but did better on grubs 30'. Air temp was 72 degrees with 10-15 mph SW wind Supplied by JE

November 3, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - We will be closing the marina for the season this Sunday. We would like to thank all the people how came and stayed with us this season. We will be keeping the campground open till after deer season. The lake is on a good rise now with the 3 1/2" rain we had. This should make the duck hunters happy. Main lake is still in good shape color wise but the feeder creeks have gotten dirty with all the wash coming in. Fishing is really pretty good this time of the year. The white bass and black bass are biting good but the crappie are still slow.

LAKE LEVEL: 708.57
WATER TEMP: 64deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to dirty.

BASS:
The best bite is half way back in the creeks on the secondary points. Spinner baits and buzz baits are the best choice. Fish 1' to 3' on the lee sides of the points. Jig and frog will work on the main lake points. 6' to 10' of water seems to be holding the better fish.

CRAPPIE: Same as last week. Brush piles in 15' to 20' of water fished with small jigs is the best of the best. Fish are holding right on top of the brush. The bluff banks are starting to produce a little better now. Fish 20' of water one crank off the bottom with a jig tipped with a minnow. Look for any little clumps of brush on the bottom. Fish are holding tight.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The white bass fishing has been good on the windy points. Rooster tails, road runners and small Rat L Traps will catch these fish. Fish the windy points in 1' to 3' of water. The big hybrids haven't started yet but they have to be really close with the water temp of 64 deg. and falling.

CATFISH: No Report.

As I said this will be the last report for the year so I would like to wish everyone Happy Holidays and a safe winter season. Also I would like to thank everyone for the help and kind words after the storm of July 5th. You will all be remembered.

So till next season we bid you good fishin.
Tommy

October 27, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - More rain. The lake is still in good shape and the fish are trying to do their part and the leaves are still in full color. It's just a great time to get that last weekend of fishing in before it turns cold. The lake temp is still holding at 64 deg. and the water clarity is a light stain.

LAKE LEVEL: 706.13
WATER TEMP: 64 deg.
WATER CLARITY:
Clear to stained. There is dirty water getting pushed in up the rivers from all the rain.

BASS: The bass fishing on Truman is not to bad. The jig bite is starting to pick up. Fish are scattered from the main lake points to the back ends of the creeks. You can find fish in 1' to 3' of water but the better fish are holding in 8' to 10' on the bottom. The edge of the shallow flats that fall into the creek channels are your best bet for better fish. PB&J jigs have been a good color. Also a bluegill jig has been a good choice. Spinner baits have slowed a little but with the cooler weather coming in next week they should pick back up.

CRAPPIE: There has been some crappie caught off the bluffs in 20' of water. These fish are holding about a foot off the bottom. One of the better banks is the bluff across from the dam. Brush piles are still holding fish. Best piles are in 16' to 20' of water.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We are seeing a lot of whites come in. The big hybrids haven't started yet. If the wind is blowing the fish are on the windy points if it's a calm day the fish are back on the humps. Steve Blake did say that there were a few good hybrids starting to surface again. If you are fishing the points Rooster Tails are a good choice. It you are working the humps spoons are the best bait.

CATFISH: No Report.

We will be closing the marina for the season on Nov.7th. We will keep the campground open till after deer season. Next week will be my last fishing report for the season. we can help you with anything you can contact us at Sterett Creek Marina

October 20, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - If you are looking for color now is the time to be here. The leaves are about in full color now. With the moisture we have had this week it has turned everything to fall. The winds have been coming just right to keep the white bass fishing interesting. If the weather will hold like this we should have some good fishing for the next couple of weeks.

LAKE LEVEL: 706.0
WATER TEMP: 64 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to stained, very fishable. Still dirty above Bucksaw.

BASS:
The bass are starting to get into their fall pattern. Spinner baits and buzz baits half way back in the coves on the secondary points is the place to be. Fish 2' to 6' of water. Main lake points are still producing fish in 6' to 12' of water on black and blue jigs and 10" plum worms. Also try a tube next to any laydowns in the creeks.

CRAPPIE: Crappie fishing remains the same. Most of the fish being caught in this area are coming in off brush piles. 16' to 20' seems to be the magic number. Minnows and jigs are both working.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The whites and hybrids are jumping all over the place. When the wind is blowing they are on the windy points. When its calm they are back on the humps. Point fishing with Rat L Traps and rooster tails seems to be working the best. These fish are really shallow. The fish on the humps are still hitting spoons in 16' to 20' of water. Bill Fisher had a real nice hybrid last night on a Rat L Trap.

CATFISH: No report.

This weeks rankings from Sterett Creek are:
WHITES: # 1
BASS: # 2
CRAPPIE: # 3

October 6, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - Talk about some great fall weather, it just doesn't get any better than this. With these cool mornings the water temp. is starting to fall and we have seen a increase in fish activity. Steve Blake has been picking up whites and hybrids off the windy points. This is a sure sign that we are entering the fall season. The lake is in good shape color wise and the trees on the bluffs are starting to turn a little.

LAKE LEVEL:          705.68
WATER TEMP:        73 deg.
WATER CLARITY:
All the arms are clear to lightly stained except the Grand which is still dirty above Bucksaw.

BASS: The bass seem to be moving with the cooler water temp. Main lake points are producing some fish on big worms. Red shad and plum seem to be the two best colors in 6' to 10' of water. Spinner baits and tubes are starting to work on the secondary points in 1' to 3' of water 1/2 way back in the coves. Most of the fish are hanging on laydowns.
CRAPPIE: Same as last week. Brush piles are the best of the best. 15' of water seems to be the best piles. Minnows are the best bait. The fish seem to be hanging right on top of the brush. Main lake points with cedars are another good area. Look for cedars in 15' to 20' of water, here again minnows are the best bait.
WHITES & HYBRIDS: Like I said earlier guide Steve Blake has been catching whites and hybrids off the flat windy points. He said that these fish are up shallow. Rat LTraps and spoons are the choice of baits. The dam area to KK Island is a good area to look.
CATFISH: Jugs are still producing some catfish using hot dogs. The flats with 15' to 20' of water seem to be the best. Set stages about 10'.

This weeks rankings from Sterett Creek are:
BASS:        # 1
WHITES:    # 2

September 29, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - The summer is slowly winding down and so is the water temp. With the drop in the water temp we should see the fishing start to pick up with the fish starting to move towards the back ends of the coves. With what I am seeing I don't think it will be but another week and we should see some fish starting to move. Looking at some of the bluff banks on the lake we are starting to see a little color come out. The cool nights have also got the critters moving so if you are traveling in the lakes area pay extra attention right about dark.

LAKE LEVEL:           706.10
WATER TEMP:         75 deg.
WATER CLARITY:
The entire lake with the exception of the upper Grand is a light stain to clear. Above Bucksaw is still dirty. Finey Creek down is real pretty water to fish. Big and Little Tebo Big and Little Pommie are clear. The Osage is a light stain.

BASS: Saturday the 25th. we had the Sterett Creek Buddy Bass Tourn. and for those that couldn't attend you missed a good time. You might say the fishing could have been better but the food was sure good. We  here at Sterett Creek would like to thank everyone who fished and the ladies that put the lunch together afterwards. The winning stringer was brought in by Mike Friend and Carl Shipman ( the great Truman lake chipman walleye fishing expert) weighing 11.24 lbs. Second place went to Tom Novinska and Jim Lehares with 4.34 lbs. Third to Clint Rayburn and Jeff Swackert with 4.24 lbs. Big fish went to Mike and Carl with a fish that weighed 3.56 lb. Right now there are a couple patterns working. Tree rows on the flats with 1' to 6' of water are holding fish. Big worms in red shad will work in these areas. There are also fish on the bluff ends on main lake in 8' to 12' of water. Big worms are also working here. We did have some small fish on jigs in these same areas.
CRAPPIE: Same as last week. The brush piles in 15' of water is  the best of the best. Guide Steve Blake has been doing real well on this pattern. Minnows are the best baits. Did here of some fish being caught out of cedars on the points. Here again minnows are still the top producer.
WHITES & HYBRIDS: They did run a little water last week and when they did the white and hybrid fishing got good. Mark Weber brought in some real good hybrids caught on sassy shad. He said they were in 34' of water. There has been hybrids surfacing in the State Park area. The whites are still on the humps as they were last week. Remember they maybe on the sides of the humps instead of laying right on top like when they are running water.
CATFISH: There are a few cats being caught on jugs. The flats in 15' of water seem to be the best producer. Hot dogs are still working.

This weeks rankings from Sterett Creek are:
BASS:         # 1
CRAPPIE:  # 2
WHITES:    # 3

September 22, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - Another week has come and gone and it seems like every other weekend it rained. We had 2" Sat. morning so it changed the color of the water up the creeks. Now it has pretty well cleaned up and things are getting back to normal. With the warm days we have had the water temp is also back up. The fishing has improved a little and things are starting to look up for a beautiful fall.

LAKE LEVEL:          706.55
WATER TEMP:        78 deg.
WATER CLARITY:  Upper arms heavily stained. Rest of the lake is stained to clear. Very fishable.

BASS: The bass fishing remains the same as it was last week. The best bite is still the suspended fish in the tree rows On either big worms or jig and frog. Red shad worms and black and blue jig are the best colors. Fish seem to be holding about 4' over 15' of water. There are also a few fish being caught on the bluff ends in 8' to 12' of water, here again the big worm is working along with deep running crank baits.
CRAPPIE: Ditto! Same as last week. The brush piles are holding the better fish. 15' to 20' piles are the best of the best. Minnows are the top bait. There have been a few fish come in off the bluffs. 30' fished 20' down with minnows has started to work a little better.
WHITES & HYBRIDS: I think I should have just posted last weeks fishing report again, Spoons in 20' of water either on top of the deep humps or on the sides of the shallow humps. There has been a few hybrids caught on sassy shad over deep water in the dam area. Watch for the gulls popping the water for fish.
CATFISH: Trot lines are starting to produce a few nice cats on cut shad. 12' seems to be the best depth. The main lake flats seem to be the best producer.

This weeks rankings from Sterett Creek are:
Bass:        # 1
Crappie:   # 2
Whites:     # 3

September 15, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - Windy and warm but I guess it could be worse. With the water temp. falling a little it has got the big bass biting. Rich Riley brought in a 7.22lb. largemouth on Monday. Sunday in the Team Supreme tourn. there were several 5lb. fish. The lake is a little below normal so I would assume that the COE won't be running any water. But the lake is in good condition and very fishable.

LAKE LEVEL:         705.99
WATER TEMP:        76deg.
WATER CLARITY:  Clear to lightly stained
.

BASS: Like I said earlier the big fish have started it a little. The best  bite is on big red shad worms in the tree rows on the edge of the flats. 15' to 20' of water and suspended at about 6'. The bluff ends are also producing fish on big worms in about 8' of water.
With the water temp cooling a little the top water bite should start picking up on the timbered flats. Buzz baits would be a good choice to start with.
CRAPPIE: These little fellows are kind of hit and miss right now. Guide Steve Blake has been doing real well on crappie on brush piles. Minnows are the best bait. The best piles are in 15' to 20' of water. Here again with the water temp. cooling these fish should start moving to the bluff points. It might not hurt to check some of the main lake points going back into the creeks.
WHITES & HYBRIDS: Here again Steve has been doing real well. These fish are on the humps at about 20'. If you have a shallower hump the fish will be off the sides or the end. If you have a 20' hump they will be right on top of it. Spoons are the best lure. These fish are laying right on the bottom so you have to watch your fish finder real close to find them.
CATFISH: Dick Caton brought in a 20lb. blue Monday caught on a jug. He was using hot dogs for bait. Fish the flats in 15' with stages set at 10'.

This weeks rankings from Sterett Creek are:
BASS:          # 1

September 8, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - Well the holiday has come and gone the kids are in school so I guess it is time to do some serious fishing. But before we get there I thought I'd let you know we have started our fall rates here at Sterett Creek.

LAKE LEVEL:          706.61
WATER TEMP:        78 deg.
WATER CLARITY:
Grand is still dirty above Bucksaw and the Osage is still dirty above Ed's Camp. Everything else is in good shape and very fishable.

BASS: The bass fishing is the same as it was last week. Fish are still holding on the flat points in 8' to 10' of water in the timber. Big worms and jig and frog are the best baits. Black and blue on the jigs and plum and blue fleck on the worms. There is a little top water bite on buzz baits 1/2 way back in the coves in the pockets early and late.
CRAPPIE: We saw more crappie come in last weekend than we have seen in a while. The outside tree rows in 20' of water fished with minnows 10' down is the best bet. I did hear of fish coming out of some cedars on the Grand River arm.
WHITES & HYBRIDS: We had some real nice hybrids brought in and some good sized whites. They are still hitting the chartreuse sassy shad with a 3/4 oz. head. KK island and the wier seem to be the two best spots. The hybrids seem to be holding in deeper water than they were earlier.
CATFISH. Jugs with cut shad seems to be the way to go. Fish the flats in 20' of water with stages set about 10'.

September 1, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - Well the holiday is upon us and the weather looks like it is going to be great. Some where along the way we missed Aug. this year. Don't get me wrong I sure didn't miss the heat but without the hot weather it sure messed up the fishing. Well this week the fishing has improved and lets hope this will be a good onset to the fall season. The whites and hybrids really took off this week and there were some big bass stringers last weekend. The lake is starting to get back in good shape and the COE has been running a little water so this should help with the fall fishing.

LAKE LEVEL: 706.53
WATER TEMP: 78 deg.
WATER CLARITY:
Same as last week. The upper arms of the Osage and Grand are still dirty. Finny Creek and down on the Grand is good. Ed's Camp and down on the Osage is good. Everything else is a light stain to clear.

Bass: Well the bass fishing has really improved from a week ago. The bite was pretty good in the Tuesday night hawg fights. Even though the weight wasn't real big, more fish were caught. Even Emil showed up and caught a little fish. The winning stringer went to Doug and Ozzie with a total weight of 7.88 and big bass that weighed 3.02 Their stringer almost matched last weeks. Second place went to Earnie Cox and Russell Beck with a weight of 3.77. Doug weighed in a nice stringer over the week end which weighed over 20 lbs. Looks good as the water is warming and the fish are biting.
Whitebass: Last week they were impossible to find, and now they are showing up on the surface and the humps. Nice stringers of whites are being caught on spoons. Top water baits when they are on the surface. It may be a real good bite now for quite a while if the water stays at this temp.
Hybrids: They are on the move and on the bite. They really started turning on last Friday evening. Most of the good fish are being caught in the evening. The evening bite is the best, but don't count the early mornings short. Look for schooling shad and the humps. Sassy Shad are the best bait.
Crappie: Even the delicate crappie are coming back on the bite. Its amazing how a few degrees in water temp. can change the bite, and it showed how important it is this week. If we stay stable now we should enjoy some real good crappie fishing.
Catfish: The good ole catfish is still producing a strong bite. These fish are always hungry. A 10lb flathead was caught during the bass tourn. last night on a bass jig. Catfish will bite on almost anything. So come on down to the lake and enjoy some good fishing while the weather is nice. Hope to see you soon.

Whites & Hybrids: # 1
Bass: # 2
Crappie: # 3

August 11, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - It's been another pretty week weather wise here on the the lake. Temps are great and not much rain. The water temp is still in the upper 70's and the shad are thick, and the water color is really clearing up. The fishing has even started picking up a little.

LAKE LEVEL: 707.13
WATER TEMP: 78 deg.
WATER CLARITY:
All arms are lightly stained except the Grand which is still dirty to Finey Creek.

BASS: The bass fishing is starting to pick up a little here on Truman. Last nights Hawg Fights were won by Ernie Cox and Russell Beck with a winning stringer of 8.13lbs. Second went to Crist Fanning and Terry Close with 5.75lbs. and third and big bass Went to Randy and Jim Lutjan with 3.76lbs. That was a whole lot better than last week. But where was Emil ?? Ernie said they caught their fish on baby brush hogs. The flatter timbered points seem to be holding some better fish. Best depths are from 3' to 9' deep. There are still some fish in the tree rows and they seem to be liking the hedge trees right now that will bite a jig. Colors are watermelon red and black and blue. Had a couple of fisherman in this week that had fish on top water. Buzz baits and Zara spooks seem to be getting the fishes attention. If you get fish blowing up on top water but they really don't seem to want it switch to a Rat L Trap and go right back in after it. With the number of shad we have on top right now the trap should start working. Just the way the fish are acting it looks to me like they could start the fall pattern early. With these cool fronts we are having don't be afraid to check the backends of the bigger creeks. you might try slow rolling a spinner bait through the shad.
CRAPPIE: Just like the bass the crappie have started to bite again. Crappie like these real hot days and that seems to concentrate them more to the trees. The hotter it gets the better the bite will be. The summer pattern is the best choice for crappie right now. Minnows on long poles fishing about 6 to 8 ft. deep will put you in the strike zone. Some of the bites are very suttle so you will need to pay attention to your line. Tight line or using a bobber will produce for you.
Whitebass: The bite has started to come back on again, but it is still slow. Although the shad are on the surface, the whites aren't coming up in big numbers to feed. The more hot weather we get will certainly change that bite. If you can be here when the COE. is running water you will find the whites. You will still need your depth finder to locate these fish. Running water really puts these fish on the bite. It seems to move the shad more, and in turn the whites go on feeding sprees.
Catfish: This bite has been the best for several weeks now. Catfish don't seem to be bothered by the changing weather. These monsters of the deep seem to be hungry all the time. We are still seeing good stringers being brought in. Jug lines, and rod and reel are producing well. Try drifting the flats, and dragging your bait on the bottom, and hang on.

This weeks rankings from Sterett Creek Marina are
Bass: # 1
Crappie: # 2
Whites: # 3

August 11, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - Talk about a pretty week, for August the weather couldn't be any better. I wish we could say the same about the fishing. We are seeing a few crappie coming along with a few hybrids. One thing for sure is that you won't sweat much while fishing. The water temp. is still in the upper 70's and I almost believe the fish have missed the summer pattern, and we are starting the fall pattern.

LAKE LEVEL: 707.34
WATER TEMP: 78 deg.
WATER CLARITY:
Upper Grand is dirty. Finny Creek to G 4 fishable. Upper Osage is dirty, ZZ bridge to Berry Bend is stained. Big Tebo lightly stained. Little Tebo, Big and Little Pommie are clear.

BASS: The bass fishing has really slowed up on Truman. Last night in the Hawg Fights, as much as it pains me to report this, Emil Tally and Mike Macdugal took first place. Even worse they took second place, and even worse they took third place. They also had big bass with a total weight and big bass weight of 1.90 lbs.
It was a one fish tourn. last night. We have been doing this for 5 years and this is the first this has ever happened. Emil was trying to explain the pattern but he couldn't remember which one he caught the fish on. Must have been something to do with the weather yesterday. The guys that fished said it was a bad bite. Sundays bite was a little better with 9 1/2 lbs winning Team Supreme. Points seem to be where the fish are fish are and a Carolina Rigged baby brush hog in watermelon seems to be working. There was a few fish caught suspended on the outside tree rows on black and blue jigs. right now its make a lot of casts and catch a few fish.
CRAPPIE: Yes the bass fishing is tough right now, and so is the crappie fishing. You need to fish very slow to get a bite. The weather has changed the bite, and these fish are less than aggressive. Some fish are being caught in the channels over deep water. We need those hot warm days to get these fish back on the pattern. But don't let the tough bite stop you from coming down and going fishing. It's always better to be fishing than working.
WHITE BASS: This is going to sound like a repeat of crappie and bass, but the whites are just as tough. As soon as the COE runs water the bite is on, and lots of fish are being caught. The big question is, when do they run the water. Lots of time spent watching your depth finder will help you find a few fish. There just isn't much of a pattern right now, unless they run water.
HYBRIDS: Last night a few nice hybrids were caught during the evening hours. The COE were running a small amount of water and this made the hybrids more aggressive. Large sassy shads and spoons are producing some fish.
CATFISH: Now were talking fishing. Good stringers of catfish are being caught on jug lines, and rod and reel. Seems like the catfish don't mind this change in the weather. You can find these fish on the flats, back of creeks, and on the main lake. The upper arms are producing good stringer as well. This is the best bite on the lake right now, and these fish taste mighty good, when cooked properly. So if your fishing trip isn't going well, then try fishing for catfish, with shad, livers, leeches, worms,or some type stink bait.

August 6, 2004 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - I don't know what we did to make mother nature so mad but she is sure working on us this week. From 100 deg. yesterday to rain today. I guess that's what they mean when they say if you don't like the weather in MO. hang around for 5 minutes and it will change. Just when the fish started going we have to back up again. The water temp on Truman is still running 10 deg. behind last year.

LAKE LEVEL:           707.45
WATER TEMP:         78deg.
WATER CLARITY:
We are right back where we started 2 weeks ago. Grand River to Long Shoal is dirty. Big and Little Tebo are a light stain. Sac River to Berry Bend are dirty, from Berry to the dam the water is good. Big and Little Pommie are both good.

BASS: The bass fishing here on Truman remains the same as it was last week. The Hawg Fights were hot last night and not on the fishing end. At take off it was still 97 deg. and humid. Made for a long night of fishing. The winning stringer was brought in by Marty Watson and Jeff Hook which weighed 3.44lbs. Second and big bass went to Crist Fanning and Terry Close with 2.42 and 3rd. went to Doug and Ozzie Wallace with 1.65lbs. The main bite is suspended fish in the tree rows with the fish holding at about 4'.
Strawberry worms and blue fleck worms are the best along with the black and blue jig and frog. There is a top water bite on the flats in the timber on spooks and buzz baits. Shad seems to be the key factor for fish locations.
CRAPPIE:  The crappie bite is real good as the crappie are finally moving onto the summer pattern.  The up and down water temp. has had a big effect on the crappie pattern.  Even though we have had hot days, the cloud cover and cool nights have a big effect on these fish.   Now you should concentrate your fishing on the flats.  Fish water depths 10 to14 ft.  Fish your minnow 4 to 6 ft. deep.  Lots of keeper fish being caught along the bluffs in 30 to 40 ft. of water fishing about 15 to 20 ft.  Big school of crappie hang around the bluff next to the river channel this time of year.
WHITE BASS:  Fishing is spotty at times.  Look for these fish on the drops and the humps.  Some fish are coming to the surface on hot calm days.  Most of the fish are being caught on top water baits.  Fishing the humps and drops, use spoons in the 3/4 oz. as the shad are getting bigger and the whites seem to want the bigger bait.  Concentrate your fishing where you find the shad.  If its hot the shad will be on the surface and the whites will be close by or right underneath.
HYBRIDS:  The bite is real difficult right now as the big fighting hybrids have gone away.  If it turns hot and the wind dies down in the evenings you will see them come back and begin surface feeding.  Lots of wind on the lake makes it hard for these fish to see the bait fish close to the surface, so they stay in the deep channels and feed.  Calm hot days will put these fish on the humps, over river channels and some long points.  Most top water baits will work when they are on the surface.  Use large sassy shads with 3/4 oz. heads to fish for bottom feeding fish.  Until the water warms again, you will have to use your electronic and lots of time searching for these hybrids.
CATFISH:  Jug fishing is producing lots of catfish right now.  Jugs drifting across shallow flats is producing some real nice fish.  Limb lines in the trees and backs of the coves are producing also.  Fresh cut shad and stink baits, along with leeches are the best baits.  The upper river arms seem to have the better bite.  The upper Osage and the Grand have a real good bite right now.  These are the areas to concentrate on for good limits of catfish.
