Lake Level : 604.2

Normal Lake Level : 606 / Water Condition: Clear / Surface Water Temp: 84 - 89

Crappie - It's pretty much the same report as last week, however with the lake dropping almost 5 feet in the last week the crappie have moved around some. It's been a very good summer pattern. If fishing the main lake, the crappie have been around 10 - 12 feet deep. If fishing the creeks and further up the lake, they've been catching crappie about 4 - 8 feet down, in 10 - 15 feet of water. Some of the better catches have come from isolated trees, or the outer trees. Other areas to catch them are, large trees, clumps of trees, bridge piers. Minnows or jigs. Try trolling through the areas mentioned above. Fish a spot, catch a few and move on, don't linger in one place too long.

Catfishing has been slow.

The White Bass fishing continues to been good. Using rooster tails, shad raps or silver spoons. Concentrate on areas of the lake where there are underwater humps, old road beds or long shallow points. Look for shad busting the water, throw a lure into it. Don't be surprised if you also happen to hook into a walleye or two.

LAKE LEVEL: 705.55 / WATER TEMP: 84deg. / WATER CLARITY: Clear to light stain.

Everything is about the same as it was last week with the exception that it is not near as warm. We did have a little shower come through this morning, just enough to settle the dust and that's about it. The water temp. is still bouncing up and down but the white bass fishing did pick up a little. Looks like the weekend is going to be nice so lets hope the fish get going.

BASS: The bass fishing is like last week, if you know how to catch suspended fish you will do pretty good. The points are still producing some fish in 8' to 12' of water on big worms. Watermelon red and plum are the better colors. The suspended fish are holding in 10' to 20' of water anywhere from 6' to 15' down. Strawberry worms are the best color on them. Tree rows next to the channel swings have been working the best. Last nights hawg fights were won by Doug and Ozzie Wallace with 5.56 lbs. They also had big bass weighing3.21. Randy Lutjan and Doug Zink cane in second with 4.19 lbs.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing continues to get a little better. The fish are still on the outside tree rows in 15' to 20' of water on the edge of the flats. Minnows are still the best bait. There have been a few fish coming off the bluffs out of 30' of water 18' to 20' down. Don't be afraid to check the bridge pillars.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Last weekend we saw some real nice whites and small hybrids come in. Check picture on web site. Guide Steve Blake brought in some of the best whites I have seen this year. Fish spoons off the edge of the flats where they break from 10' to 20'. Steve said they started shallow early in the morning and the fish started going deeper around 9am.

CATFISH: The catfishing remains good. Trot lines in 10' baited with cut shad seem to do the best. You want deep water close by.
Lines baited with perch are still picking up a few flat heads.

Lake Level : 609 / Normal Lake Level : 606 / Water Condition: Clear / Surface Water Temp: 80 - 85

Crappie - It's been a very good summer pattern. We've had some good reports on crappie this week.

Bass fishing has been very good this weekend. Crank baits, jigs, plastic worms; biting on almost anything. You can read about bass tournament results at the MAO web site <http://www.mwbt.com/marktwainbwsta042306.htm> . The preliminary list for this years Bud-Lite tournament <http://www.visitmarktwainlake.org/mtlcoc_bud_light_buddy_bass_tournament_drawing.shtml> is now available on the Mark Twain Lake Chamber of Commerce web site.

Catfishing has been slow, although we had a few reports of some nice size flatheads caught on trotlines last weekend.

The White Bass fishing has been good. Using rooster tails, shad raps or silver spoons. Concentrate on areas of the lake where there are underwater humps, old road beds or long shallow points. Look for shad busting the water, throw a lure into it. Don't be surprised if you also happen to hook into a walleye or two.

Lake Level: 705.69
Water Temp: 86 deg.
Water Clarity: Clear to light stain.

We wanted the water to warm up so the hybrids would start surfacing and we got half of our wish, the water sure warmed up. According to the weatherman we are supposed to get a break from this heat about Friday. That sure won't hurt my feelings. If you are going to fish take plenty of water of Gatorade. Another good idea is to take a couple of milk jugs full of water and freeze them to put in your livewells. I don't like to use ice because of the chlorine and fluoride in the ice. With this kind of heat it doesn't take long to spoil fish in a livewell.

BASS: The bass fishing remains good here on Truman even though this weeks hawg fights didn't show it. Last weekends stringers were in the 16 lb. range and for this time of the year that's good but with the heat yesterday we didn't have many boats. But then again if Kristin Tavano would start paying her entry fees probably more people would show up. ( got ya ).
There is still a suspended bite on jig and frog and big worms. These fish are holding in 12' to 20' and down about 8'. Outside tree rows are a good holding area. There are fish starting to pull up on the brush piles also, same depth. Watermelon red and plum are the better colors. We did here of some carolina rig fish on the timbered humps. Rig with a 4" worm or a smallie beaver.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing has picked up a little with the hot weather. We are seeing a better keeper ratio than a couple of weeks ago. Have seen several limits come in this week. The crappie are still on the outside tree rows in 15' to 20' of water, down about 10' to 12'. Minnows are the best bait. This type of fishing should get better as the water gets warmer.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Steve Blake said he had some nice whites surfacing in the KK Island area last night. They caught their fish by throwing a small spoon through the surfacing fish. There were some good hybrids caught trolling. They were using mag wiggle warts and wally divers. The fish were in 16' of water off the humps.

CATFISH: The catfishing is still good on trot lines. Cut shad and little smokies are the best baits around here. There were a couple of nice flat heads brought in which were caught on black perch. Lines set in 8' of water on the flats next to deep water seem to be working the best. Remember to run lines often with the heat.

Upper End-James River Carolina rigged Zoom centipedes in watermelon red and watermelon candy on main river gravel points in 15-25 feet deep.  Football head jigs in peanut butter and jelly in 15-25 feet deep is working best for bass.  Also use deep running Shad colored crank baits.  Top Water use a spook in shad patterns on bluff ends and timbered points in early mornings and for schooling bass.
Crappie
Crappies fishing has slowed down but some are still being caught under deeper docks and deep pole timber, but are scattered.

Lake Taneycomo
Trout
I'm catching some nice rainbows and a few browns on a small Rapala in the morning and also swimming a white 1/16 ounce jig.  The trout in the trophy area will also take pink or green micro jigs under a float and a zebra midge has also been very good.  Below the trophy are from Fall Creek down, the trout are biting very good on night crawlers or power baits.  In the early morning you can catch them swimming a 1/16 ounce jig or little Cleo spoon, in line spinners are also good in the mornings.

Crappie - Summer pattern. The reports are varying, some are reporting catching crappie 7 feet deep in 14 - 20 feet of water. Others said they were catching them in 14 feet of water near the bottom. Some of the better catches have come from isolated trees. If you can find isolated submerged trees, then you probably have found a good spot. Other areas to catch them are, large trees, clumps of trees, bridge piers. Minnows or jigs. Try trolling through the areas mentioned above. Don't stay in one place too long if you're only catching small crappie.

Bass fishing has been slower this week. A lot of bass are still being caught, but they've been on the smaller size. You can read about bass tournament results at the MAO web site. The preliminary list for this years Bud-Lite tournament is now available on the Mark Twain Lake Chamber of Commerce web site.

Catfishing has been slow. It's mostly small channel cats being caught.

The White Bass fishing has been slower. Normally they've been caught using in-line spinner baits (like rooster tails), shad raps or silver spoons. Concentrate on areas of the lake where there are underwater humps, old road beds or long shallow points. Look for shad busting the water, throw a lure into it. Lake Level: 706.15
Water Temp: 79 deg.
Water Clarity: Clear to light stain

Sounds like summer is coming to the Ozarks. We have had some good rains this week which was badly needed, but the weatherman says it is going to get hot. This may not be a bad thing as we need to get the water temp up a little more to get the hybrids going. The water clarity is good all over the lake. There is a pretty good bass bite going and the crappie fishing is starting to pick up, seeing more keeper fish at the cleaning table.

BASS: We had several tourn. on the lake last weekend and the winning stringers were running 16# to 17# range which is not to bad. Last night in the hawg fights Ozzie Wallace and Tom Novinska took first with 10.47lbs. We also had big fish weighing 5.17lbs. Second went to Marty and Trent Watson with 4.76lbs. Third was Randy Lutjan and Howard Love with 2.05lbs. The suspended fish are starting to hit a jig, watermelon red or the MO craw are to good colors. The outside tree roes in 12' to 20' of water are also working. If the COE runs water the points are holding some good fish. Big worms in plum and watermelon red are the better colors. Look for shad.

CRAPPIE: We are starting to see more keepers come in now. The was a 3.02 lb. crappie brought in Sat. check the web site for picture. 18 1/4" long, biggest fish I have seen in a long time. Minnows fished in the cedars on the flats in about 12' of water has been doing well. Also there are some fish holding in the brush piles in 15' to 20' of water. Here again minnows are the best bait. There is really no better area on the lake right now, you catch a lot of small fish everywhere so when you hit some god fish stay in that area and keep working it.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The good news is that the shad are starting to surface in the evenings. The bad news is that they are really small and the hybrids are looking for bigger ones. The whites are still coming up and can be caught on small road runners and small grubs. There has been some numbers of fish up in the Little Tebo area but it seems that it has to be later on in the evening.

CATFISH: We are still seeing good numbers of catfish come in off jugs and trot lines. Lines set in 10' to 12' baited with cut shad and leeches seem to be working the best. There have been good fish on the flats next to deep water.

Lake Level : 610.8 / Normal Lake Level : 606 / Water Condition: Dingy - Clear / Surface Water Temp: 80 - 75

The lake is about 4.8 feet over normal, dingy in the upper branches, clearer in the lower lake.

Crappie - Summer pattern. On the edge of deeper water, about 12 - 18 feet deep. Large trees, clumps of trees, bridge piers. If you can find isolated submerged trees, then you probably have found a good spot. Minnows or jigs. Try trolling through the areas mentioned above. Don't stay in one place too long, if you're not catching anything.

Bass fishing has been slower this week. A lot of bass are still being caught, but they been on the smaller size. Catfishing has been tougher. It's been slow and the catfish being caught have been mostly channels and small.

The White Bass fishing has been very good, using in-line spinner baits (like rooster tails), shad raps or silver spoons. Concentrate on areas of the lake where there are underwater humps, old road beds or long shallow points. Look for shad busting the water, throw a lure into it and get ready for action. Lake Level: 706.68 / Water Temp: 78 deg. / Water Clarity: Clear to light stain

Happy 4th. of July !! The fishing continues to improve here on Truman. The crappie are still a little slow, but the whites are starting to pick up a little and the bass and the catfish remain good. With the holiday weekend up on us please drive with care on and off the water. Fireworks will be shot off the dam Saturday night.

BASS: Big worms on points in 8' to 12' of water is the best bite. Watermelon red or plum are the top colors. The Sweet Beaver is still working also. Juicy and watermelon red are the better colors. The is a suspended bite starting in the outside tree rows in about 12'. Jig and frog and the beaver are catching fish here. Last nights hawg fights took 11.15 lbs with Ernie Cox and Russell Beck the winners. Second went to Randy and Jim Lutjan with 8.94 lbs. and big bass of 4.46 lbs.

CRAPPIE: These fish are still on the outside tree rows in 12' to 17' of water. Fish the trees that are just starting to come out or just under the surface. Minnows are the best bait. There are some good brush pile fish starting to hit. Look for piles in 15' to 20' of water.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The whites are starting to surface a little more each week. The cemetery has been the hot spot this week right before dark. Road runners and 2" grubs are the best baits working now. There are a few spoon fish hitting when they are running water. Check O 3 and the weir. The small spoons seem to be working the best. There is a rumor going on around here that Roger Pihl is to cheap to buy a good graph so he has been jumping out of the boat and looking for them that way so if you are out fishing and see someone in the lake looking for whites just stop' pick him up and put him back in his boat.

CATFISH: Trot lines are still working good. Shallow sets in 4' to 6' of water baited with leeches or black perch are the top baits, Fish the flats that are next to deep water.

Have a safe holiday.

June 22, 2006 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek -
Lake Level: 707.13
/ Water Temp: 77 deg. / Water Clarity: Clear to light stain.

Fishing here on Truman seems to be picking up a little. The water clarity is great and the temp is still rising slowly. The whites have started surfacing with some regularity and the bass fishing remains good. The weather for the rest of the week looks super with a little cool front coming our way with highs in the mid 80's and the winds settling down so I look for some good fishing this week.

BASS: Last night in the hawg fights Randy and Jim Lutjan came in with a winning stringer of 16.28 lbs and had big bass of 5.07 lbs. Second went to Ernie Cox and Russell Beck with a 10.05 string. Third was Doug Zink and John Wilbanks with 5.96. There was a lot of talk at weigh ins of all the fish that were lost at the side of the boat and broke off in the trees so you can see there is a heck of a good bite going on. Points seem to be holding a lot of fish in the 6' to 10' range. 9" worms in watermelon red and blue fleck are the top baits. The suspended bite is starting to take off in the tree rows on jigs and sweet beavers. Fish seem to be holding about 4' to 6'. The bite is real soft so watch your line.

CRAPPIE: The crappie are running just a little better than last week. Still catching a lot of little fish but the keeper ratio is getting better. Outside tree rows in 15' to 20' of water fished with minnows about 10' seems to be working the best. Don't be afraid to fish some of the shallower tree rows in 10' to 15' as some of the fish are getting pushed off the deeper rows.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The white bass are starting to surface pretty good in the evening hours. The best bite seems to be from about 7 o'clock on. Small spoons and road runners are the top picks right now. A small Pop R will also work on these fish. The cemetery, Point O 3 and the swim beach buy the dam are some of the better areas.

CATFISH: Still doing good on catfish on trot lines. Shallow sets baited with leeches in 4' to 6' of water are doing the best. Lines set farther back in the creeks baited with perch have started producing a few flat heads.

June 15, 2006 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - Lake Level: 707.58
Water Temp: 77deg.
Water Clarity: Clear to light stain.

This has been the start of a perfect week. The weather has been fantastic with cool mornings and evenings and not to much wind. Even the day time temps. have been good. The fishing remains about the same as last week with everything moving to the summer pattern. Even the whites are starting to surface so with the warmer temps forecasted for the weekend things should really pick up.

BASS: Last nights Hawg Fights took 13.87lbs. to winso you could say the bass fishing is good. Points seem to be holding fish in 8' to 10' of water. Main lake timbered seem to be the best with secondary not to far behind. Most fish are holding on the breaks clone to deeper water. Big worms and the sweet beaver in watermelon red or green pumpkin red seem to be the best colors. One tip I found is that they want a slow moving bait. There are a few fish starting to pull up on brush piles in 15' to 20' of water. Beavers are working on them. Winners last night were Ernie Cox and Russell Beck. 2nd. went to Larry Hahn and his grand daughter Christian ( who didn't pay her 1/2 of the entry fee)
with 8.67lbs and they also had big bass weighing 3.96lbs. Third was Tom Monsees and Lance Estus with 5.16lbs.

CRAPPIE: The crappie bite is still a little slow. Most of the fish we are seeing are off the ends of the flats in the tree rows setting in 17' to 20' of water. Minnows fished 8' to 10' down has been the best bait..

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We are starting to see the whites surface. The COE. hasn't been running much water lately so the bite on the humps has slowed a little. The area from the dam to KK Island has had the most surface activity the last few days. Small spoons skipped on the surface or Rooster tails in white and Road runners in red and white have been the best baits. If you see the fish surfacing stay back as far as you can because they are spooking easily.

CATFISH: The catfishing is good here on Truman. Trot lines set in 4' of water with 1' stages baited with leeches are the best thing going right now. Set lines close to a creek channel or ditch.

June 7, 2006 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - LAKE LEVEL: 707.66
WATER TEMP: 77 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to lightly stained.

Another great week of weather here at Truman. We had just a little rain and not a lot of wind with warm temps to get the water warming nicely. The bass fishing remains good, withe the crappie fishing being spotty on the lake. The fish seem to be moving in and out so they are kind of hard to find. The guys finding them are having to try deep to shallow and once they get them located they can do pretty good.

BASS: The bass fishing is good here on Truman. There is a good bite on the points in 8' to 12' of water. Big worms are starting to catch good stringers of fish. The fish still seem to be holding close to the bottom, but with the warm weather I would think that they will start suspending any day now. Main lake and the first secondary points are doing the best. Watermelon red or blue fleck are the best colors. Black buzz baits are working on the flat points early and late. Last nights hawg fight results were 1 st. place Ernie Cox and Ozzie Wallace with 11.72lbs. and big bass at 3.72lbs. 2nd went to Jerry and Sally Crosthwait with 9.42lbs. 3rd was Lance Estes and Tom Monseers with 7.90lbs.

CRAPPIE: The crappie have been in and out all week. One day they are in 20' of water and the next they are in 10' to 12' of water. Fish the outside tree rows on the edge of the flats with minnows. If the fish aren't in the deeper rows try as shallow as 6'. The key seems to be if there aren't shad popping the top the fish don't seem to be there. The Berry Bend area and the Hay Creek area seem to have the best bite going right now.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The COE has been running a little water in the evenings and this has picked the white bass fishing up a little. Most of the fish being caught now are coming trolling the humps out of 16' of water. It is still kind of hit and miss but I have had a couple of reports of surfacing fish. Small Rat L Traps and Sassy Shad are the best for these fish. Don't crowd the surfacing fish or they will go back down.

CATFISH: Catfish are still doing good on Truman. Shallow set trot lines in 4' to 6' of water baited with leeches seem to be doing the best. Set lines close to deeper water.

June 6, 2006 - Lake of the Ozarks & Truman - Submitted by Old Oar House Inn
Mile Marker 81
Lake of the Ozark water elevation is 655.55'. Truman lake water elevation is 705.81'. Spillway water temperature is 76 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam remains 0 CFS through the turbines.

Crappie:
Slow but Steady
Crappie fishing has slowed considerably but with perseverance it is still possible to limit out on fish. Minnows and jigs fished slowly along the shore continue to produce nice stringers of fish. The big fish as of late are hitting red and white chartreuse jigs in the deeper water. For best crappie fishing, fish the transition zones along the bluffs which offer good cover. The deeper, cooler water with structure is producing the better fishing.

Catfish:
Excellent!
Al Weston continues to report great cat fishing off trot lines. I saw a 26# blue he had tied up on the docks this weekend. Live perch and shad work well. The bigger the bait, the bigger the fish! Al said any day now and flatheads will start biting. He also recommends jugs baited with livers along the flats just above the main channel.

Largemouth Bass:
Good.
Dale and Andy reported back in Sunday that largemouth bass fishing is real good right now. They wanted to show me a nice 5# hog they had in their live well but I was too busy to break away for a picture. Surface lures continue to work real well when the sun is low and the boys said jigs and plastic has been working well during mid day. The boys have scheduled a series of Bass Fishing tournaments this summer at the Old Oar House. Check out our website for details.

Carp
Great!
Carp are in the shallows now in very good numbers. Missouri's own 'Capital City Bow Benders' held their annual spring bow fishing tournament this weekend at the 'house' and I saw at least a half dozen 30 gallon trash cans filled with fat carp. First place fish weighed 23# this year and netted the archer $65.

Walleye
Good
I didn't personally see any Walleye this weekend but I had a couple reports they were biting fairly well. Use dark colored, deep diving buzz or rattle type lures in the main channel or any place you find the deep cooler holes. Just below Truman dam was also mentioned as a good spot.

Lake Taneycomo Trout I'm catching some nice rainbows and a few browns on a small Rapala in the morning and also swimming a white 1/16 ounce jig.
