December 25, 2006 - Question on smallmouth bass - Does anyone out there have any good tips on wintertime fishing for
smallmouths in the south central Missouri Ozark streams? I'm a newcomer here; I do well in the warm weather but have had little success in cold
weather. I don't care much for lake fishing, but I love the streams.
Thanks.

Table Rock Lake White River Area Carolina rigs with green pumpkin fish doctor or centipedes in watermelon candy in 25-35 feet deep on main lake gravel points. Drop Shot rigs with Zoom finesse worms in green pumpkin color and watermelon candy on main lake gravel and bluff ends in 28-45 feet deep for Kentucky bass. Fish 5/8 and 3/4 oz. Jewell football head jigs in peanut butter and jelly or brown and purple on main lake points 25-35 feet deep is working the best for Kentucky and some Smallmouth bass. On windy days use a storm wiggle wart in green and brown crawfish patterns on chunk rock banks, main lake and some deeper creeks.

Mid Lake-Kimberling City Area Carolina rigs with green pumpkin fish doctor or centipedes in watermelon candy in 25-35 feet deep on main lake gravel points. Lower End-Dam Area Carolina rigs with green pumpkin fish doctor or centipedes in watermelon candy in 25-35 feet deep on main lake gravel points. Drop Shot rigs with Zoom finesse worms in green pumpkin color and watermelon candy on main lake gravel and bluff ends in 28-45 feet deep for Kentucky bass. Fish 5/8 and 3/4 oz. On windy days use a storm wiggle wart in green and brown crawfish patterns on chunk rock banks, main lake and some deeper creeks.

Upper End-James River Carolina rigged Zoom centipedes in watermelon red and watermelon candy on main river gravel points in 15-25 feet deep. Football head jigs in peanut butter and jelly in 15-25 feet deep is working best for bass. Also use deep running Shad colored crank baits. On windy days use a storm wiggle wart in green and brown crawfish patterns on chunk rock banks, main lake and some deeper creeks. Crappie Crappies fishing has slowed down but some are still being caught under deeper docks and deep pole timber, but are scattered.

Lake Taneycomo Trout I'm catching some nice rainbows and a few browns on a small Rapala in the morning and also swimming a white 1/16 ounce jig. The trout in the trophy area will also take pink or green micro jigs under a float and a zebra midge has also been very good. Below the trophy are from Fall Creek down, the trout are biting very good on night crawlers or power baits. In the early morning you can catch them swimming a 1/16 ounce jig or little Cleo spoon, in line spinners are also good in the mornings.

Lake Level: 704.34 / Water Temp: 56 deg / Water Clarity: Light stain

This will be the last fishing report for the 2006 season. We will be closing the marina on Sunday Nov. 5th. We will reopen March 9th. 2007. We are going to have the campground open until after deer season. We will have full hookups open but the shower house will be closed.
The weather is letting us know that fall is here with the cool temps, but the foliage still has fantastic color. The wind has left most of the leaves on the trees so it will be a good weekend to spend some time at the lake.

BASS: The bass fishing remains good on Truman. We are hearing of a lot of good Kentucky's being caught. Spinnerbaits seem to be the main stay right now. Fish are all the way in the backs of the creeks. 1' to 3' of water has been the best depth. Laydowns fished with spinnerbaits and jig and frog are producing good fish. Look for shad.

CRAPPIE: The crappie are still slow. Had a report of some fish caught off brush piles in 20' of water on jigs. With the number of small fish caught this year next season should be a good year on crappie. We may have to change tactics a little but time will tell.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We are still seeing lots of whites come in. Seems the best bait right now is a spinner bait fished about 10' to 15' off the banks. The flat banks are the best and cloudy days by far out produce the sunny days. The bad news is that you need wind and the more the better. It's hard to fish but the results are worth it.

CATFISH: The catfishing is still good. Jugs in 6' to 8' of water on the flats next to deep water has been producing good catfish. Cut shad and the red meat off white bass are the two best baits right now.

Well that's it for this season from Sterett Creek. We would like to thank everyone that has made our season successful. I would also like to thank everyone who has sent e-mails in regards to the fishing report. I look forward to starting again with the reports in the spring.
May you have a safe and warm winter.

Note:
The Hwy 107 North Fork Bridge is closed till further notice. Fishermen wanting to use the Hwy 107 ramp will have to take about a 20 mile detour, if approaching from the south. Boaters can cross under the bridge, just not under the failed section of the bridge. Also the ramp at the end of Hwy HH, in Shell Branch, is also closed until further notice. This ramp will be used as a staging point for the Hwy 107 bridge repair.

Lake Level : 601.7 / Normal Lake Level : 606 / Water Condition: Clear / Surface Water Temp: 60 - 64

Crappie fishing continues to be good. It has not been fast and furious, but you shouldn't have any problem catching a limit. You should be able to catch 2 - 4 good size crappie out of a good hole. You need to keep on the move, don't linger too long in one spot. Patience is required. Minnows or jigs tipped with minnows has been the best bait. The average size crappie has been around 9 - 10 inches. The depth has been anywhere from 1 to 10 feet deep.

Bass fishing has been fair.

Catfishing has been good. Several good size Blue cats have been caught, using chicken parts. Channels have been fair on rod and reel using nightcrawlers.

Looks like we are in for a little rain the next couple of days, maybe it will put a little water in the lake for the duck hunters. The trees are still well colored and holding on to their leaves. They must be trying to stay warm as long as they can. The fishing is good on whites and black bass so it looks like a good time to get out one last time before the weather gets plum stupid on us. Next week will be my last fishing report for the season.

BASS: Fish are still holding in 1' to 3' of water in the backends of the coves. Spinner baits and Pop R's are the best baits right now. Don't over look any laydowns, you may have to hit them twice but there are fish holding on them. Jigs and tubes are working on the laydowns.

CRAPPIE: The jig bite has started a little, and I mean a little. What few crappie we are seeing are brush pile fish. 15' to 20' seems to be doing the best.

WHITE BASS & HYBRIDS: The white bass and small hybrids are doing good. Windy flat points and nitches in1' of water are holding fish. Rooster tails and small Rat L Traps have been working the best. It seems that you can't fish to shallow.

CATFISH: Same as last week. 8' to 10' on the flats. Jugs baited with the red meat of a white bass has been real good this week. We have seen several fish in the 20 lb. range.

Finally we got a little rain. Had about a inch last weekend and seemed to pick the fishing up along with the leaf color. It sure is pretty now, looks like we are about full color right now. As far as the fishing it has got the white bass all fired up. The temps are perfect for fishing and the wind hasn't been to bad.

BASS: We saw a couple real nice fish come in today. Spinner baits and Pop R's seem to be the two best baits working now. The fish have moved up shallow on the flat points and in the back ends of the coves. The little critters are holding in 1' to 3' of water and looking for lots of shad to eat. I'm sure a tube fished along the laydowns in the backends of the coves will work also.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing is still slow on our end of the lake. The fish we are seeing are coming off the bluff banks out of 25' to 30' of water. Fish seem to be holding at about 20'. Minnows and jigs are both working. The crappie seem to be holding close to the points. Brush piles are producing a few small fish but it looks like they are looking to move to the coves.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: If the wind will blow the white bass fishing is real good. Steve Blake ran some trips this week for whites and did extremely well. We have several other people that are taking limits also. The south Grand and lower Big Tebo seem to be coming on. Flat wind blown points are the best. Fish are in a foot or water. Pop R's and Rooster Tails are the best baits. The main thing to remember is that you can't fish to shallow. Bob Dodd and company had a nice bunch of whites and small hybrids yesterday. He said they caught them on tandem willow leafs in about 3' of water on the flats.

CATFISH: Haven't had any reports on the cats this week but jugs should still work in 8' to 10' of water on the flats.

Crappie fishing has been good. The crappie have pretty much made the transition to their fall pattern. They're mostly in the creek channels and flats, tight lining minnows or dead stick jigs with nibbles, or minnows with nibbles (or some other scent attractant works good). Bridge piers have been a hot spot. The best depths have been around 1/2 foot - 12 feet deep in the creeks, or 20 - 30 feet deep around the bridge piers. Nine inches has been an average size crappie lately.

Bass fishing has been fair.

Catfishing has been good. Blues and channels have been good on rod and reel using nightcrawlers. Trotliners have reported some flatheads and blues, using goldfish.

Just another great week weather wise. Had just a little rain and the temps. are perfect. If you are into the fall colors I would say we are about 50 %. I'm not sure how long they will last this year as dry as it is. The deer are starting to move real hard about dark so keep a keen eye when in the lakes area. The fishing is about the same as last week with the whites starting to pick up a little more. We are supposed to have some cooler weather come in the next couple of days which should keep them up shallow.

BASS: The bass are still about half way back in the coves up on the shallow flats. Spinnerbaits and buzz baits fished in 1' to 3' of water have been working well. There are also some jig fish on the points in 3' to 6' of water. Seems like the first secondary point going into a cove is working the best. Black and blue and MO. craw are two of the better colors. This time of the year it might not hurt to throw a beaver or a tube up on the flats next to laydowns.

CRAPPIE: All I can tell you about the crappie is they are out in the lake some where. I had a couple of reports of fish holding in 30' of water about 25' down. The brush pile fish have moved. The crappie had started to move on the points going in the coves and the weather warmed up and they just kind of disappeared. Anyway the fish in deep water are still coming on minnows. I haven't heard of a jig bite starting yet.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Every day the wind blows the white bass fishing gets better. We have seen a lot of whites come in out of 2' of water or less. Yesterday guide Steve Blake came in with a 9 1/2 lb. hybrid. I have seen a few small hybrids this week, 2# to 4# fish. Rooster tails, small sassy shad and small Rat L Traps are the best right now. You might even try a 2 1/2" twister tail on a 1/8 oz. head and catch fish. Like I said most of the fish we are seeing are in shallow water so you have to throw right up on the bank, you can't fish to shallow right now.

CATFISH: Jugs on the flats are still the best game in town. Flats in 8' of water fished with cut shad or hot dogs has been producing fish this week. You need to have deep water close by.

I guess that old saying about the weather is proving its self true, if you don't like it today just stay till tomorrow. We have been in the hot mode again this week and no rain. The wind has kept up this week to make the white bass fishing good. The leaves are starting to turn some really pretty colors in this area. So all in all its a good time to hit the lake and do some fall fishing.

BASS: We are still seeing a good number of bass. With the shad getting blown up on the flats the bass are following and starting to stock up on some fall grocery's. The fish are about half way back in the coves in 1' to 4' of water. Spinner baits and buzz baits are two of the top producing baits. Crank baits are also working in this area. A small billed shallow runner in the Tenn. shad color is a good choice.

CRAPPIE: It seems this week the crappie have gone deeper. The brush pile fish have slowed up and the 30' fish have started a little. Minnows fished in 30' down about 16' has been producing a few fish.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: As long as the wind blows the white bass will bite. Windy flats with Rooster Tails, road runners and small Rat L Traps will do a good job. These fish are in a foot of water or less. One thing we have noticed this week is that you have to get the blade turning on the baits as soon as your bait hits the water.

CATFISH: Same as last week. Flats next to deeper water with cut shad. Jugs seem to be working the best. 8' to 10' of water has been the best water depth.

Crappie fishing has been fair. The best areas have been around bridge piers, and trees. The best depths has been around 18 - 20 feet deep, dropping a minnow or jig all the way to the bottom and bringing it up a foot or two.

Bass fishing has been fair, it's been mostly shorts though.

Catfishing has been slow, with mostly channel cats being caught.

Haven't heard anything on white bass this week.

The weather is just about ideal for fishing, the only problem is we need some wind to get the whites going again. Sounds funny a fisherman wishing for wind. But anyway the temps are great and no rain in the forecast. For the leaf lookers the leaves are just starting to turn, but with the lack of rain I don't know how much color we will have this year. but we are starting to see some color along the lake.

BASS: If you like shallow water fishing now is the time to be on Truman. Fish seem to be moving to the shallow flats to chase shad. Top water early and late along with spinner baits and jig and frog during the day has been producing some really good fish. 2' to 4' of water seems to be the best. Look for shad if they aren't there look for another flat.

CRAPPIE: I talked to Marty Zych and he seems to think the fish are starting to move back into the creeks. Fish the tree rows next to the creek channels with minnows in 12' to 15' of water. I have also heard of a few fish off the points in 20' of water. The brush piles are still holding a few fish if you know where any are. Have not heard of any jig bite yet.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: If the wind blows the white bass fishing has been super. The fish are pulling up in a foot of water on the flat points chasing shad. Rooster tails and small Rat L Traps are working the best. The last couple of days the wind has died and the fishing got slow so if you see wind forecast that's the time to hit the whites.

CATFISH: Same as last week. Jugs in 8' to 10' of water on the flats next to deep water. Cut shad seems to be the best bait.

The way the weather feels fall has arrived a little early this year. the water temp is dropping slowly and the fish seem to be enjoying it. The crappie are starting to move to the points and the whites are moving on the flats along with the bass. We had our Sterett Creek Open Tourn. last weekend and even with the wind there were a lot of fish caught.

The results are:
1st. Doug and Ozzie Wallace - 14.53 lbs.
2nd. Marty Watson and Doug Long - 13.34
3rd. Larry Wright and Ron Taddiken - 11.51
4th. Hap Hartman and Dennis Krier - 9.22lbs.
Big Bass - 3.74lbs. Marty Watson and Doug Long.
Team Supreme went out on Sunday and Ozzie Wallace and Ernie Cox took the honors with 20.26lbs. so as you can see the bass fishing on Truman is good, and with this weather should continue to get better.

BASS: The bass are starting to move up on the flats. Spinner baits and jig and frog are the top producers right now. Fish seem to be holding in 2' to 3' of water early and late. During the day they are backing off to the first break line in about 6' of water on the thickest trees. There has been a little top water bite starting in the backends of the coves on Pop R's and buzz baits.Look in the 1' to 2' range and look for shad.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing continues to get better. Some of the fish have started to move to the mouths of the coves and are laying off the points in 20' of water. Minnows are still the best bait. The brush pile fish are the best bite going. 14' to 20' brush piles are holding a lot of fish. Fish are holding right on top of the piles.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The whites are slowly starting to pull up on the windy flats. The KK Island area is the hot spot right now. Rat L Traps and Rooster Tails are starting to work. Look for the shad and gulls and you you should find a few fish. With the dropping water temp this will continue to get better everyday.

CATFISH: Same as last week. Jugs on the flats in 8' to 10' of water next to deep water. Cut shad seems to be the best bait.

September 16, 2006 - Answer to Florida Bass question - Hello. I read your question about how to catch those bass you are seeing. I am a florida native and have been fishing central florida for over 30 years and i can tell you that if you put a live golden shiner in front of those fish you will indeed connect with them. If you need more information on how to fish with this kind of bait let me know and i will send to you a link to all the info you need. I have a few places where i catch my own golden shiners and keep them in a tank to use when i want to go fishing. This is another complete subject i know but once you start catching bass with shiners you won't want to stop. If you buy them they run from $16.00 to $20.00 a dozen, this is to much for me to pay so i catch my own. Catching the bait is almost as much fun as catching the bass! Jeff Morrow, Sarasota, Fla

Crappie fishing has been tough late this week. The crappie that are being caught have been at about 12 - 18 foot deep, over 20 - 25 feet of water. Fish the outside edges of trees, along bluffs, river channels and bridge piers. Minnows and or jigs.

Bass fishing has been tough. The Bud-Light Buddy Bass tournament is this week, we'll see how the "pros" do.

Catfishing has been good this week. Blue cats have been biting good, some channels and a few flatheads.

The White Bass fishing has been fairly good.

This week reminds you that fall is right around the corner. With the cool temps in the mornings and evenings and a little fog mixed in it looks like October instead of Sept. Even the fish are acting like October fish. Everything is about the same as last week with a little more top water thrown in. Don't forget this weekend is the Sterett Creek Open Buddy Bass Tourn. on Sat. the 16th. You can call the marina for details or e-mail me for info.

BASS: The bass fishing remains pretty good. Last night was our last Tues. night hawg fight and Doug and Ozzie Wallace closed it out in style with a pair of 4.5 lb fish and another one on the side to weigh in at 10.72 lbs. The fish are still holding on the edge of the flats in 6' to 10' of water. They are on the bottom and picking up a jig. Look for the first break line coming off a timbered flat. There is also a top water bite up on the flats in 2' to 4' of water. Buzz baits and Pop R's are working the best. Look for flats with shad.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing is like it was last week. The best bite is on the brush piles in 14' to 20' of water. Minnows are still the best bait. There are some fish starting to pull up on the main lake points. These fish are in about 20' of water. With the water temp. starting to drop they are acting like they want to start moving to the creeks. Look for shad and brush off the points and the fish will be in that area.

WHITES: I talked to Fred Bareks last night and he said they are starting to pick up some whites on the flats in the evenings down around the KK Island area. They seem to be hitting about a half hour before dark.

CATFISH: The catfishing remains good. Cut shad seems to be the best bait. The catfish are still holding in 8' to 10' of water. Jugs seem to be working the best. There have been some fish come in on rod and reel using night crawlers.

With the holiday over and the cool weather upon us the fish are starting to get back to their normal routine. Last weekend the fish bit good on Saturday slowed up on Sunday and started back again on Monday. We are seeing lots of shad on the surface in the early morning hours and the gulls are starting to work the surface so maybe the fall bite is going to start.

BASS: Look for shad on the flats and fish top water early and late. The bass are pulling up in 2' to 3' of water. During the day they are dropping back into 8' to 10' of water and laying on the bottom. Fish the thickest trees or clumps of trees you can find. Jig and frog are working along with big worms. Plum is still the top color. Doug Wallace won the hawg fights last night along with having big bass. He weighed in 6.19 lbs. and big fish was 3.64 lbs.

CRAPPIE: The crappie are spread all over right now. There are fish on the bluffs in 40' of water down about 30'. There are also crappie in the tree rows in 8' of water down 7'. Minnows are still the best bet for catching crappie. When fishing the bluffs start looking at the points at the mouths of the coves. There are also fish on brush piles in 20' of water and they are holding real close to the bottom. The brush pile fish have been the best bite this week. Here again minnows are doing the best.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Not much of a report. We had a few people come in and say they saw fish surfacing but they didn't stay up long enough to catch them. I had one report that they caught a few in the G 10 area.

CATFISH: The catfishing is still good on jugs. They are still holding in 8' to 10' next to deep water. Cut shad is the best bait. We saw a couple of 20 lb. fish last weekend.

Don't forget the Sterett Creek Open Buddy Bass Tourn. will be the 16th of September. You can get ahold of the marina for details.

August 30, 2006 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek -Lake Level: 704.9 / Water Temp: 81 deg. / Water Clarity: Clear to light stain.

We had a little more rain this week but not enough to bring the lake level up much. The cooler temps sure do make it more comfortable to fish though. The weatherman said we are supposed to have a great weekend with cooler temps and surely it won't rain as bad as we need it. If you are out and about this weekend please drive with care with the holiday and school starting.

BASS: Last night Doug and Ozzie Wallace were the winners of the hawg fights with 8.13 lbs. They also had big bass at 3.65 lbs. Second went to Eric Duecker with 2.19 lbs. The bass are holding in 8' to 10' of water off the edge of the flats. Jig and frog and big worms are working here. Early and late there is a top water bite on the flats and also a crank bait bite. When the fish are on the flats look in about 2' of water. If the shad aren't there neither are the fish. Timber is a must and laydowns are the best.

CRAPPIE: It looks like we have two different patterns starting on the crappie now. If you are fishing the bluff banks fish seem to be holding in 12' to 14' of water. There have also been fish caught as shallow as 8' in the tree rows. Minnows are still the best bait.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Not much of a report on these fish. Did have a report of whites being caught in the timber way up the Osage while crappie fishing. Food for thought, you might try up on the Pommie flats with a crank bait. Had another report of some fish being caught up in the G 10 area. These fish came on sassy shad.

CATFISH: The cats are still doing good. Trot lines and jugs are doing the best in 8' to 10' of water baited with cut shad. The edge of the flats next to deep water seems to be the best areas.

We will be doing the Sterett Creek Open Buddy Bass Tournament on the 16th. of September. For info you can call the marina on send us am email.

August 26, 2006 - Mark Twain - Submitted by South Fork Resort -

Lake Level : 602.4 / Normal Lake Level : 606 / Water Condition: Clear / Surface Water Temp: 80 - 83

Crappie have been good. Holding 15 - 18 foot deep, over 20 - 25 feet of water. On the outside edges of trees, Minnows, jigs (yellow/chart).

Bass fishing has been good, using plastics. You can read about bass tournament results at the MAO web site <http://www.mwbt.com/marktwainbwsta042306.htm> . The list for this years Bud-Lite tournament <http://www.visitmarktwainlake.org/mtlcoc_bud_light_buddy_bass_tournament_drawing.shtml> is now available on the Mark Twain Lake Chamber of Commerce web site.

Catfishing has been good. The better reports have come from rod and reel fishermen, using nightcrawlers or shad. The catfishing should continue to be good, with the 1-1/4 inch of rain that we got last night.

The White Bass fishing has been good. Using rooster tails, shad raps or silver spoons. Concentrate on areas of the lake where there are underwater humps, or long shallow points.

Lake Level: 704.75

We finally had some rain come in last weekend. Here at the marina we had 2" but it was pretty localized and didn't affect the water level or the clarity. The lake is still down a little over a foot. Didn't change the fishing much either, everything is the same as last week.

BASS: Point fishing is still the best with 7" to 9" worms. Plum and blue fleck are the better colors. The bass seem to be chasing the shad on the flats in the evenings and there is a shallow running crank bait bite starting. These fish are as shallow as 2'. We are starting to see more shad in the way backs. The big winners in the hawg fights last night were Doug and Ozzie Wallace with 9.19 lbs. They also had big fish at 4.72 lbs. They said their fish came out of shallow water off hardwoods.

CRAPPIE: Same as last week. The crappie are holding in the 12' to 14' range. What ever depth of water you fish just make sure your minnow is down 12' to 14'. There are more fish starting to come in off the bluff banks. There is also a good bite on the brush piles. Fish seem to be holding right on top of the brush.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: No report. I did hear of a few surfacing fish hitting the flats above the Grand River bridge.

CATFISH: The catfish bite remains good. Cut shad is the best bait. 10'-12' on the flats next to deep water is working good in our area. Jugs and trot lines are both producing.

Again this week the fishing continues to improve here on Truman. We are seeing more limits of crappie coming in everyday. The bass fishing also remains good. The weather has been ideal for fishing with cool mornings and evenings. The water temp has dropped a degree of two but not enough to affect anything. They are calling for nice weather for this weekend so it sounds like a great weekend for fishing.

BASS:  The point fish are still on. Smaller worms are starting to pick up more fish. A 7 1/2" blue fleck or plum fished in 6' to 8' of water on the back sides of main lake points. I did hear of a spinnerbait bite on the upper Osage on the flats in the creeks. Last nights Hawg Fights were won by Doug and Ozzie Wallace with 7.17 lbs. They also had big fish weighing 4.04 lbs. Second went to Marty Watson with 5.08 lbs.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing is picking up nicely here on Truman. The fish have dropped a little deeper but are biting a lot better. There are fish biting on the flats on the outside tree rows and also on the bluffs. The best depth has been running 12' to 14' down on minnows. If your fishing 13' of water or 30' of water fish 12'. We are starting to see several fish come off a tree, almost a fall pattern.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: No report.

CATFISH: Trot lines and jugs are still going strong. 8' to 10' of water next to deep water seems to be doing the best. Cut shad has been the bait of choice. We are seeing a lot of 3 lb. fish right now.

The crappie and bass fishing continues to improve on Truman. We are seeing more limits of crappie come in everyday. The warm weather is finally doing what it's supposed to do. The lake is down a little over a foot. Now is a good time to get out and find new cover to fish. The stuff that is normally under to where you can't see it is just popping out so it's a good time to locate new tree rows and fence lines. For us old guys the video camera is a great way to go, for the young guys the memory computer works I guess. Any way there is a lot of new brush showing which may help on future trips.

BASS: Bass fishing is picking up again. Last weekend Team Supreme went out of Sterett Creek and a winning stringer of 22 lbs. was weighed in. Last night the winning string was 9.01 lbs. caught by Howard Love and John Pollitt. Second went to Larry Wright and Jackson Adair with 4.38 lbs. Ozzie Wallace and Tom Novinska had big fish at 3.49 lbs. The point fishing is still the best in 6' to 10' of water. Either cedars or the thickest trees are the best holding areas, and the fish are right in the middle of them. Either jigs or big worms are working. Strawberry red or watermelon red are the best on worms and black and blue or MO. craw on the jigs. The fish seem to be holding just off the bottom.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing has picked up a little this week. We are seeing more limits come in everyday. They are still holding on the outside tree rows. The best depth is about 16' fishing minnows down about 8'. There has also been some good fish starting to come off the bluff banks out of 30' of water down about 20'.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: With the lake level being as low as it is the COE has not been running any water to speak of and the whites have been pretty allusive I did hear of a couple of hybrids being caught trolling the airport area.

CATFISH: Jugs and trot lines are still producing catfish. Cut shad seems to be the best bait. 10' seems to be the magic number. Deep water close by is a must.

White River Area The bass are on summer patterns. Carolina rigs with green pumpkin fish doctor or centipedes in watermelon candy in 25-35 feet deep on main lake gravel points. Drop Shot rigs with Zoom finesse worms in green pumpkin color and watermelon candy on main lake gravel and bluff ends in 28-45 feet deep for Kentucky bass. Fish the bait at 28 foot near the thermocline. Fish 5/8 and 3/4 oz. Jewell football head jigs in peanut butter and jelly or brown and purple on main lake points 25-35 feet deep is working the best for Kentucky and some Smallmouth bass. For early morning top water bite use a Cordell Red Fin or Zara spook on pole timbered points, back in the creeks and on main lake points. White bass are schooling on flats in the morning and on cloudy days and can be caught on top water lures and spoons during the day.

Mid Lake-Kimberling City Area The bass are on summer patterns. Carolina rigs with green pumpkin fish doctor or centipedes in watermelon candy in 25-35 feet deep on main lake gravel points. Drop Shot rigs with Zoom finesse worms in green pumpkin color and watermelon candy on main lake gravel and bluff ends in 28-45 feet deep for Kentucky bass, fish the drop shot rig at 28 feet near the thermocline.

Lower End-Dam Area The bass are on summer patterns. Carolina rigs with green pumpkin fish doctor or centipedes in watermelon candy in 25-35 feet deep on main lake gravel points. Drop Shot rigs with Zoom finesse worms in green pumpkin color and watermelon candy on main lake gravel and bluff ends in 28-45 feet deep for Kentucky bass, but fish the bait at 28 feet deep near the thermocline. Kentucky bass are taking night crawlers good on gravel points 26-32 feet deep on the main lake.

Upper End-James River Carolina rigged Zoom centipedes in watermelon red and watermelon candy on main river gravel points in 15-25 feet deep. Football head jigs in peanut butter and jelly in 15-25 feet deep is working best for bass. Also use deep running Shad colored crank baits. Top Water use a spook in shad patterns on bluff ends and timbered points in early mornings and for schooling bass.
