October 31, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -   You can sure tell fall is here. The leaves are about as pretty as I have seen in the last several years. If you want to see some fantastic fall foliage it's time to be here at Truman. Not only is it pretty out the fish are still biting so nows the time to come and enjoy this great time of year in the outdoors.
This will be the last fishing report for the 2007 season. We will be closing down for the season Sunday Nov. 4. Looking forward to the spring of 08 already. In looking back on this year I think we had a fantastic fishing year. The bass fishing was great. When it takes 12lb. to 19lb. to win a 3 hour tournament that is some good fishing. We are seeing a lot of sub legal fish so the years to come look fantastic also. The crappie this year have been as fat as I think I have ever seen. With the high water during the spawn this year I know we had a better spawn than in the past few years. The number of walleye we saw come in shows that the stocking program is working well. The white bass fishing is starting to pick up now as it always does this time of year. The catfish hit all year and we saw several in the 30 lb. to 50 lb. range. So with all that I think next year will be a fantastic fishing year here on Truman.

LAKE LEVEL: 707.19
WATER TEMP: 59 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to light stain.

BASS: Spinner baits on the secondary points is the top producing bait right now. 3' to 6' of water seems to be the best depth. Crankbaits are also working in these areas. I did hear of some bass suspending along the edge of the creek channels 3/4 of the way back in the bigger creeks. These fish are in 15' of water down about 4'. The big thing right now is to fish the areas where the shad are. There has been a buzz bait bite in the mornings and on cloudy days. These fish are in real shallow water on the flats.

CRAPPIE: The crappie are hanging on the main lake points with the best bite being in 20' to 25' of water. The fish are holding right on the bottom. The fish seem to be sitting off to the sides of the points. Nitches in the bluff banks are a good area to look. Minnows and jigs are both working. The fish don't seem to be bunched up yet so after you catch one or two you will probably have to move.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The white bass fishing is good especially in the mornings. The whites are holding on the wind blown flats and Rooster Tails seem to be the top bait. Mid day the fish seem to move back to the humps in 15' to 20' of water where spoons are working. We had some hybrids come in off the humps last weekend. From Shawnee Bend to KK Island seems to be one of the better areas on the lake.

CATFISH: Last weekend we saw some good catfish come in on rod and reel. Cut bait fished in 10' of water on the flats next to a creek channel was working.

October 24, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -   What a beautiful week. The trees are really starting to turn and with the cooler temps the whites have started pulling up on the flats. I think we have had enough moisture to keep the lake at a good fishing level for the rest of the month, and with the leaves turning the way they are it's just a great time to be on the lake.

Lake Level: 706.99
Water Temp: 65 deg.
Water Clarity: Light stain.

BASS: The bass fishing remains good on Truman. Right now the fish are scattered out everywhere. There are still fish on the main lake points hitting spinner baits. 3' to 6' seems to be working the best. Color doesn't seem to matter. There is also a buzz bait bite on these points early and late and on cloudy days. There are also fish on the secondary points 1/2 to 3/4 of the way back in the coves. Spinner baits and big worms are working the best. Look for the points with the shad working on them. I would even try a beaver on the secondary points.

CRAPPIE: The crappie in our area are still hanging on the bluffs. 20' to 25' of water fished with minnows is working. These fish are still holding close to the bottom. There are a few fish holding on the main lake points in the timber, here again minnows in 20' of water seems to be doing the best and holding close to the bottom.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The whites seem to be everywhere right now. Look for windy flat points. One thing about it is you can't fish to shallow. Rooster tails and small Rat L Traps are two of the better baits. Also a 2" grub on a 1/4 oz head is a good choice. It seems the harder the wind is blowing in on the points the better the fishing is. We haven't seen any big hybrids this week but with the water temp dropping I think they will start any day now.

CATFISH: The catfish are still hitting jugs. Cut shad seems to be working the best. The flats with 20' of water fished close to the bottom had been producing some nice blues.

October 17, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -   It is starting to look and feel like fall around the lake. The temps have started to get down to the normals and the trees are starting to turn. I have noticed that the maples are really starting to turn on the bluff banks. The lake is in good shape and the fish are even cooperating. We saw lots of whites last weekend and yesterday we saw some nice crappie come in. We have Heritage Days this coming weekend and it looks like the weather is going to be good so it might be time to come and enjoy a great weekend at the lake.

Water Level: 706.16
Water Temp: 71 deg
Water Clarity: Light stain

BASS: Last weekend we had the Sterett Creek Buddy Bass Tournament. There were 32 boats with Clint Rayburn and Jack Hocket coming out on top with 16.02 lbs. Second went to Dennis Krier and Lowell Washer with 15.53 lbs. Third was Tom and Chris Mc Govern with 14.86 lbs and they also had big bass at 5.82 lbs. Fourth was Rick Barton and Jerry Heenan with 14.04 lbs. Second big bass went to Jerry Boyle and Warren Toler with a 5.40. There were lots of fish between 4 and 5 lbs weighed in. Most of the fish came off points. The winners were working main lake points with spinnerbaits. Second was back in the creeks with buzz baits and big worms. The fish are still holding on the secondary points and are hitting a variety of baits. The beaver has started taking fish again along with spider jigs. Fish are holding in 2' to 6' of water and the bite is strong.

CRAPPIE: Yesterday we saw some real nice crappie come in. The fish were in 20' to 25' of water and holding real close to the bottom. Minnows are still producing better than jigs. There are fish on the bluffs and also in some of the deeper brush piles. I have not heard of any fish coming out of shallow water yet. This time of the year they like to get on the main lake timbered points and feed on the shad that get pushed in.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The whites are up and down like the temp. The best bite seems to be in the evenings up on the shallow flat points. Rooster tails are the best producing baits right now on the shallow fish. During the day it seems they like to go back to the humps. Spoons are working the best on the humps. KK Island and O 3 are two of the better areas. I did hear that there were some fish caught around the G 10 area. With the water temp dropping to the low 70's the whites and hybrids should keep getting better.

CATFISH: Jugs are still working on the flats. Cut shad seems to be the best bait. The fish are still working the 20' range and are still holding close to the bottom. We had some folks in last week that did good on rod and reel using nightcrawlers.

October 10, 2007 - Bennett Spring State Park - My oldest brother, my father and I fished Bennett Spring State Park's Zone 1 from Oct 4 through Oct 7.  Water was very clear and we had mostly sunny skies.  Fishing was slow for us, but we has some success with Copper Johns, White Wire Jigs, and Brown Eggs.  I had two "firsts" for me during the trip; first Missouri trout and first fish ever by fly rod.  See attached photos.

October 10, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  Another great week. The weather is perfect with cooler temps and light winds. The trees are about the same as they were last week but with the cooler weather coming in tonight I think we might see a big change by the weekend. We did get about a 1 1/2" of rain but it didn't affect the water clarity at all, the lake is still in great shape. The fishing has been on and off this week. Crappie are slowing down a little but the whites are picking up. The largemouth fishing is good along with the catfish.

                              LAKE LEVEL:           706.28
                              WATER TEMP:         74 deg.
                              WATER CLARITY:   Light stain.

BASS: There are several different patterns working now. The white bass fisherman are telling me they are catching blacks on the flat points on Rooster tails and Rat L Traps when fishing for whites. There are fish on the bluffs in 3' of water hitting buzz baits early and late and will actually bite all day if it's overcast. There are also fish 1/2 to 3/4 of the way back in the creeks on the secondary points hitting spinner baits and 7 1/2" worms. The common denominator of these patterns is the fish are all hitting in 2' to 4' of water and you need to be seeing shad. With the change in temps we have coming in the rest of the week I would try fishing the creek channels where they fall off the end of the flats with a 4' to 6' crank bait, this has been a good fall pattern on Truman for years.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing on Truman has slowed up this week. I think with the change in the weather these fish are starting to move to their fall pattern. There are still some brush pile fish in 15' to 20' of water and as was last week they are still holding close to the bottom. Talked to some people that fished the bluffs in 20' to 25' of water and they said the same thing with the fish right off the bottom. I have not heard of any fish going to the back ends of the coves as of yet but with the water still in the 70's and the numbers of shad we are seeing they may not move for a couple of weeks.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We have seen a lot of whites and some nice hybrids come in this week. During the day they seem to be holding on the humps and in the evenings just before dark they have been pulling up on the flat points. Spoons are still working on the humps and Rooster Tails when they are on the flats. O 3 and KK Island have been the top areas. Guide Steve Blake said there were good whites around KK Island, in 14' to 20' of water. Steve did say you have to do a lot of graphing to find them but once you get them found they will hit.

CATFISH: The cat fish are still doing good on jugs. Cut shad has been the best bait. 20' of water on the flats with bait set close to the bottom has been the most productive.

Don't forget this Saturday is the Sterett Creek Open Buddy Bass Tourn. Fishing will be from 7am to 3pm. You can sign up at the marina before the tournament. If you have any questions you can contact us at  Sterett Creek Marina

October 7, 2007 - Mark Twain - Submitted by South Fork Resort -

Lake Level : 602.7
Normal Lake Level : 606
Water Condition: Clear
Surface Water Temp: 72 - 75

Crappie fishing continues to be fair. They are still in a deep pattern, with some fishermen reporting catching them at 30 feet deep, but the most common report has them suspended from 18 - 25 feet deep over 30 feet of water.  Minnows are the best bait.  Gotta go deep and keep on the move.  The best locations have been main lake bluffs, near river channels on the outside of trees.  Some very good size crappie are being caught, anywhere from 10 - 12 inches, some smaller, some bigger....   A few fishermen are reporting catching some crappie shallow in the rivers feeding the lake.  Perhaps the fall pattern could be imminent.

Bass fishing has been slow.

Catfishing has been fair.  Channel cats have been the best, even being caught on minnows by crappie fishermen.  But for the most part, it's still nightcrawlers.

White Bass continue to be very good, being caught in the main lake over humps, using silver spoons or rattle traps.

October 3, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina - We sure have had our fair share of fronts pass through the last few days. There hasn't been a lot of rain but the wind has been pretty good. If the water would cool just a little more with the wind I think the whites would really start pulling up on the points. The lake is in good shape clarity wise with the water holding in the low 70's. There has been some real nice fish brought in this week, whites and crappie. The trees have just a hint of color, looks like another week or two for some fantastic fall foliage. I think we have had enough moisture this year to make this fall something special.

WATER LEVEL: 707.27
WATER TEMP: 74 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Light stain.

BASS:
The bass fishing remains about the same as last week. The fish are still 1/2 to 3/4 of the way back in the coves. Spinner baits have been working in 2' to 4' of water. There are also some fish coming off the secondary points on 7 1/2" worms. The top water bite is still working early and late on the flats, look for shad. Buzz baits and Pop R's are the best right now. It might not hurt to try a big tube along the laydows.

CRAPPIE: The crappie have decided to become bottom dwellers this week. If you are fishing 12' of water they are right on the bottom. If you are fishing 20' of water they are 19' down. The brush piles have been the top areas this week. Minnows are still working the best but there are a few fish being caught on jigs. This week there were some real nice crappie brought in, I hope it keeps going.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We have seen some nice whites come in this week. KK Island and O 3 have been good. There has been a few surfacing fish but the humps seem to be the best right now. Spoons are the best bait. If the wind will stay with us and we get just a little cooler weather they will be right up on the windy flat points. Keep a rooster tail handy just in case. We have had reports of the whites working the points in the early evening.

CATFISH: There has been some good catfish brought in this week. Jugs and rod and reel has been working. Cut shad has been the best bait. Fish are in 15' to 20' of water. Here again the fish seem to be holding close to the bottom. The flats next to deeper water or a creek channel is a good spot to try.

Larry Wright and Steve Blake will be putting on the Sterett Creek Open Buddy Bass Tournament on the 13th of October. If you have any questions on the tournament you can contact us at Sterett Creek Marina, 660-438-2280 or critter@dam.net. Everyone is welcome to fish.

September 26, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina - We finally got some much needed rain, about an inch yesterday. The weather is starting to cool just a little and I have seen a couple of trees trying to turn. Looks like fall might be right around the corner. The fishing this week remains about like it was last week so it would be a good weekend to load the kids up and bring them to the lake.
We will be having The Sterett Creek Open Tournament on the 13th. of October. For info you can call the marina at 660-438-2280 or e-mail critter@dam.net , or show up at the marina at 6:00am on the 13th and sign up there. The tourn will be from 7am to 3pm and there will be food afterwards. Entry fee is $ 60.00 which includes $ 10.00 for big bass.

LAKE LEVEL: 707.59
WATER TEMP: 76 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Light stain.

BASS:
If you are fishing Truman right now you need to bring your spinnerbaits and buzz baits. There is a good bite 1/2 to 3/4 of the way back in the coves. Fish are in 2' to 4' of water. Look for shad flipping. Jigs are also working in 6' to 10' of water off the secondary points. It looks like the shad have moved back in the coves and the bass are following them back. If you see fish spooling on the bank don't be afraid to throw a fluke at them, it might surprise you how good of a fish is up shallow.

CRAPPIE: It seems the crappie have started hugging the bottom. We have had fish caught off the brush piles in 13' to 16' of water with the fish down 12' to15'. There are also
some fish on the bluff banks in about 27' of water down about 20'. Minnows are still working the best. I did here of some crappie coming off of jigs on the brush piles. There has also been some fish caught off the bridge pillars.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The white bass are still doing good off KK Island and O 3. Spoons are working the best. There are a few fish starting to pull up on the points but we haven't had the wind we need to keep them there. Rooster tails and small crank baits have been working on the points.

CATFISH: The catfishiing is the same as last week. Cut shad on jug lines set in about 20' of water on the flats seems to be the best. There has been a few fish come off trot lines set shallower. Black perch and goldfish are the better baits here.

September 19, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - It looks like we are going to have our Indian Summer this week. The temps are great and we're not looking for any rain so it looks like a great time to spend on the lake. We have not seen any changes in the leaf colors yet but I will keep you posted when it starts.

LAKE LEVEL: 707.43
WATER TEMP: 76 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Light stain.

BASS:
The bass fishing is good on Truman now. Some of the fish are starting to move back in the coves. The big thing right now is look for the shad. 1/2 to 3/4 of the way back in the coves is holding fish. Spinner baits and jigs are doing a good job of catching fish right now. Fish the flat points in 2' to 6' of water. The seems to be a bunch of Kentucky's starting to hit and have heard of some good one's being caught. The is also a buzz bait bite going early and late along with cloudy days. The bass seem to be going shallower with the cooling water temp.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing has slowed a little. I have had some reports of fish coming out of 4' to 5' of water in the backs of the coves. The fish seem to be holding around cedars in the shallower water. There has also been a report of fish coming off the bridge pillars. Minnows are working the best on the pillars and the cedars. There are also some fish holding on the shallower brush piles that are starting to hit jigs. 12' to 16' on the brush piles seems to be working the best.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The whites are starting to show up with some regularity now. There are still fish on the humps but on the windy days there are fish starting to get up on the points. Rooster tails and road runners seem to work best on the points. Don't be afraid to throw a small Rat L Trap on the points you could catch a little of everything. Spoons are still working on the humps. O 3 and KK Island are two of the better spots for whites.

CATFISH: The catfish are still hitting jugs. Cut shad and little smokies are the best. Set jugs in 15' to 20' of water on the flats with bait about 2' off the bottom.

September 12, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - The fishing remains good along with the weather and water conditions here on Truman. We are starting to see good numbers of whites and a few hybrids come in. With the cool weather we are having this should be a real plus in getting these fish to start moving up on the flat points. If the weatherman keeps his word it looks like this weekend is going to be picture perfect.

Lake Level: 707.74
Water Temp: 79 deg.
Water Clarity: Clear to light stain.

BASS:
The bass have started moving in the coves. Spinner baits fished about 1/2 way back has been producing. The big thing is look for the shad and the fish won't be to far away. The secondary points have been working when fished with a jig and frog. 4' to 10' of water seems to be the best. There are a lot of little guys hitting right now, so it looks like we have plenty of future fish. On these cool mornings the Pop' R has been working. Look for these fish on the flats in 2' to 4' of water.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing is the same as it was last week. There are fish on the bluff banks in 30' to 40' of water down about 20'. There are fish on the flats in the tree rows with about 15' to 20' of water down 8' to 10'. The brush piles are also holding fish with the best piles in about 20' of water. Minnows are still the top bait but I did talk to Steve Blake and he said jigs were starting to produce on the brush piles.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Last weekend we saw lots of whites and hybrids. KK Island and Point O 3 were the two top spots. Most of the fish were caught on spoons. There were some surfacing fish in both areas and skipping a spoon seemed to work the best. The fish seem to be holding on the sides of the humps.

CATFISH: Jugs are still working the best right now. 20' of water on the flats fished down about 12' to 15' seems to be working the best. Cut shad and little smokies are still the best baits.

September 9, 2007 - Mark Twain - Submitted by South Fork Resort -

Lake Level : 603.1 / Normal Lake Level : 606 / Water Condition: Clear / Surface Water Temp: 76 - 79

Crappie fishing has been fair to good. The crappie pattern is pretty much the same as it's been the last few weeks, they continue to be caught anywhere from 10 - 18 feet deep. The best locations have been bridge piers and main lake river channels near bluffs and drop offs. The crappie have been holding tight to the timber, with one or two being caught here and there. Keep on the move. There has been some good size to the fish being caught. Minnows or jigs, crappie nibbles.

Bass fishing has been fair.

Catfishing has been good. Blue cats and channel cats have been biting very good.

White Bass have been slow.

September 5, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - The holiday weekend brought lots of anglers to the lake and with the weather being perfect and the fish cooperating it was a fantastic weekend. The lake conditions were very good and the crappie fishing remained as good as it's been all season. We saw lots of good fish brought in. The only complaint we heard was that the little bass were eating everything in site so it was hard to get a bait down to the crappie, what a problem. The good side of that is that we have lots of future fish coming up. The last couple of years the bass fishing has been on a good rebound and it looks like it will do nothing but get better.

Lake Level: 707.24
Water Temp: 82 deg.
Water Clarity: Light stain.

BASS:
Last nights Hawg Fights were the last one for the season. We are running out of daylight to quick. Keith Livingston and Jamie Camden took first place with 11.41 lbs. and had big bass weighing 3.61 lbs.Second went to Steve Blake and Jim Lehares with 3.55 lbs. There were a lot of fish caught but they were the little guys and just need another year to play in the tournament game. There are several patterns working right now. Some of the fish are starting to move back in the coves with the drop in water temp, we have dropped about 5 deg. 1/2 way back in the coves on the back side of the secondary points has been working well. Big worms fished in 4' to 8' of water is a good bite. The Pop R and spook are also working on overcast days early and late in the day. There are still deeper fish on the main lake points that are hitting big worms and deep running crank baits. Don't be afraid to throw a jig on the main lake points. Plum and plum apple are a couple of the better colors right now.

CRAPPIE: Bluffs, flats, bridge pillars and brush piles, what a choice to catch crappie off of. Minnows are still the top bait in all the places. The bluff fish are in 30' to 40' of water down 15' to 20'. The flats fish are in 15' to 20' of water down about 10'. Look for the tree rows and fence lines just starting to show. Bridge pillar fish are in 30' down about 20'. The best brush pile fish are about 17' to 20' of water and holding right on top of the brush.
It seems a little early in the year for fish to be moving to the brush piles but there were several limits caught off the piles this weekend. You might want to start looking at the outside trees on main lake points, with the number of shad starting to show up in the creeks the crappie may just follow them.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: I haven't got much of a report on whites and hybrids this week. With the amount of traffic on the water this weekend there wasn't hardly room to get on the areas where the whites and hybrids hang out.

CATFISH: If Dick Caton is catching fish everyone is catching fish and old Mr. Smokie is still catching fish. Jugs are working good in our area. The fish have gone a little deeper but are still hitting. 20' of water down about 15' seems to be the spot right now. Cut shad and little smokies are the best baits right now. Fish the flats next to deeper water.

August 29, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - Looks like the start of a great holiday weekend. The weather is fantastic and the fish are biting so it doesn't get any better than that. The lake is in good shape and the water temp is holding steady. The weatherman seems to think the weather is going to be good thru the weekend so it sounds like a good time to enjoy the great outdoors.

Lake Level: 707.23
Water Temp: 84 deg.
Water Clarity: Clear to light stain.

BASS:
The bass fishing remains good on Truman. We have started seeing and hearing of more and more sub legal fish being caught. I guess the little guys finally got hungry and are feeding with vengeance. One good thing about it is at least we know we have plenty of future fish. Last nights hawg fights were won by Larry Wright and Hap Hartman with 9.25 lbs. Second and big fish was Howard Love and John Pollitt with 3.93. Third was Charlie and John Edgar with 3.45 lbs. The full moon and the eclipse in my mind affected the bite but who can say for sure. I had talked to guys earlier in the day that did real well. Anyway the bite is points with fish holding in 8' to 12' of water on big worms. If you aren't seeing any shad flipping look for another point.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing is real good right now. There are a couple of patterns working. The fence rows in 17' to 20' of water are working when fished with minnows about 8' down. The bluff banks are also working in 30' to 40' of water when fished down 12' to 20'. This morning I have seen some good fish come to the cleaning station. Seems the better fish are coming in the 20' range.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We have had a few whites come in in the evenings. O 3 and G 10 seem to be the two hot spots right now. Watch for the gulls. Last night I saw some whites surfacing up on G 10. Spoons are working better than anything. When the fish are surfacing skip the spoon right on top and when they go down bounce it on the bottom. Here again look for good concentrations of shad,

CATFISH: Jugs are the way to go. 20' of water on the flats set about 8'. Cut shad and little smokies are the better baits right now.

That's it for this week from Sterett Creek

Have a safe Holiday !!!!!!!

Crappie fishing has been a little slower this week. Crappie have been caught anywhere from 10 - 18 feet deep, with the best catches coming off of main lake points. The crappie have been holding tight to the timber, with one or two being caught here and there. Keep on the move. There has been some good size to the fish being caught.

Bass fishing has been fair.

Catfishing has been fair. However with the recent rains, the water will be flowing into the lake from creeks and runoffs, so they should be biting very soon.

White Bass have been slow.

August 22, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - The rain we had last weekend seems to have picked the fish up a little bit. The weather so far this week has been perfect and the lake is still in good shape at 707.4. The COE has cut the spillway back to 250 cfs but has been generating power about every afternoon so there is still a good current flow to keep the fish active. We have seen some nice fish come in this week of all different species. With a small cool front working our way for the weekend it looks like we are in for more good fishing.

LAKE LEVEL: 707.47 / WATER TEMP: 85 deg. / WATER CLARITY: Clear to a light stain.

BASS:
Again this week the bass fishing remains good here on Truman. Last night in the Hawg Fights Steve Blake and Jim Lehares took the honors with 12.75 lbs. Second and big bass went to Larry Wright and Hap Hartman with 8.99 lbs with a big fish weighing
5.76 lbs. Third was Charlie Edgar and Joe Edger with 6.79 lbs. Not bad for 2 1/2 hours of fishing. At the end of the night it was unanimous that big worms fished in 10' to 12' of water caught all the fish. Plum and camo seemed to be the two hot colors, and points were the name of the game. With the water temp holding in the mid 80's these fish should hold on this pattern for a while yet. Talked to several people that said they went to the back ends of the coves and the bite was not there but once they got 3/4 of the way out the caught better fish.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing remains good also. We are seeing a lot of fish in the 10" to 11" range come in now. With the lake at this level most of the tree rows on the flats are out to where you can find them again. The fish are still in 15' to 20' of water on the flats but are as little deeper right now. Minnows fished down about 12' has been working well. The bluff bank fish are in 25' to 40' of water and holding about 20'. Here again minnows are working. Last weekend I did here of a jig bite starting in Little Tebo.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Last weekend Mike and Pat Friend brought in some real nice whites. These fish came on spoons in the Shawnee Bend area. 20' of water around the humps is the ticket for these fish. Have not seen any big hybrids come in this week but did talk to a couple of fisherman that saw them surfacing but couldn't get to them in time. When they are up and go right back down the sassy shad on a 3/4 oz. head fished in that area will normally pick up a fish or two.

CATFISH: Jugs are still picking up fish on the flats. Cut shad and little smokies are still the top baits in this area. 12' of water fished about 8' deep has been working.

Lake Level : 603.2 / Normal Lake Level : 606 / Water Condition: Clear / Surface Water Temp: 83 - 85

Crappie fishing has been a little up and down this past week. The weather fronts have been coming and going. Some fishermen have reported catching numerous crappie of various sizes, and others have been struggling. Still pretty much the same pattern as it has been lately. The most consistent pattern has been catching crappie at 10 feet deep over about 28 - 30 feet of water. The crappie have been kind of scattered at different depths. Bridge piers are still a good place to catch crappie, but they are also worked over pretty hard. Tree tops near steep dropoffs along channels have been productive. Catch a couple here and there, and keep on the move. Minnows, or jigs w/nibbles. Pink/white, or blue/white plastic tube jigs.

Bass fishing has been fair, seems to be mostly shorts. The bass have been feeding off of shad, so look for shad breaking the surface. Spinners and crank baits, shallow. Plastics worked deeper around 10 feet.

Catfishing has been fair, rod and reel fishermen seem to be doing the best.

White Bass have been slow.

August 15, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - It's hot but there is some relief in sight, the weatherman is calling for some cooler temps to come in by the weekend. Even with the heat the fish are doing well. the crappie are just like always the hotter it gets the better the fishing. The bass are also doing good with a stringer over 20 lbs last weekend. The COE has been playing some games with the water but the lake is still falling. They have shut the spillway down to 250 cfs but are generating power through the turbines so there is still a good current flow.

LAKE LEVEL: 708.6
WATER TEMP: 89 deg
WATER CLARITY: Clear to light stain.

BASS:
Last weekend we had Anglers in Action fish out of our marina and the winning stringer came in over 20 lbs. Also the big fish was close to 7 1/2 lbs. Now for this time of the year that is a heck of a stringer of fish. Last night in the Hawg Fights it took 8.34 lbs. Doug and Ozzie Wallace were the winners. Second went to Larry Wright and Hap Hartman with 7.46 lbs and big bass of 4.25 lbs. The winning string was caught on jigs and the fish were suspended at about 8'. Larry and Hap had their fish on big worms on points in 6' - 8' of water. I also heard of a mid range crankbait bite on the points. The main lake points are more productive than anything else at this time. Colors very from watermelon red to black and blue.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing is still good and the size is running better than normal for this time of year. The crappie we are seeing are thick and averaging between 10" and 12" with some bigger fish coming in. I know this sounds funny but the best bite is during the heat of the day. Tree rows on the flats are the top producer in 15' to 20' of water with minnows. The bluff banks are also starting to produce some good fish in the 20' to 30' range. Minnows are the best bait. Look for the trees that are just starting to pop out of the water or if you can graph the underwater trees on the bluffs you should be able to catch some good fish.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The best hybrid action has been right at dark and later. With the shad laying on top now and the warmer water temp it seems the hybrids are feeding later than normal. The O 3 area and KK Island are still the top spots in this area to fish. The sassy shad and Hawg Stick are the best baits. I wouldn't be afraid to throw a Pop'R either.

CATFISH: We haven't had many catfisherman in this week. The ones that are are running jugs on the flats in 15' of water set about 8'. Cut shad and little smokies are the top baits. With the heat you have to check your jugs often.

Lake Level : 604.7 / Normal Lake Level : 606 / Water Condition: Clear / Surface Water Temp: 83 - 85

Crappie have been very good during the past week. Good size to them. Tree tops near steep dropoffs along channels has been productive. Catch a couple here and there, and keep on the move. Minnows, or jigs w/nibbles. Pink/white, or blue/white plastic tube jigs.

Bass fishing has been good. Bass fishermen have been catching bass in the flats, shallow off of the banks, and in the creeks. The bass have been feeding off of shad, so look for shad breaking the surface. Spinners and crank baits.

Catfishing has been good for rod and reel fishermen. Set lines have been slow.

White Bass have been fair, catching them off of main lake points or humps. Silver spoons or rattle traps.

August 8, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - Truman is living up to its reputation with being one of the best warm weather lakes in the country. The crappie fishing is as good as I have seen it in a few years. We are seeing lots of fish come in even with the heat and good fish at that. The lake is about 6' high and is in fantastic shape. All ramps are usable and everything is about back to normal.

LAKE LEVEL: 712.51
WATER TEMP: 85 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to Light stain.

BASS:
I think the bass fishing is about as good as the crappie fishing right now. I know Chist Fanning and Gary Jones would agree to that weighing in 15.76 lbs last night in the hawg fights for first place. Howard Love and John Dilon came in second with 14.18 lbs. Third was Larry Wright and Hap Hartman with 11.22 lbs and a 5.97 lb. fish for big bass. There were 4 fish weighed in between 5 and 6 lbs. That's not bad for 3 hours fishing. The best bite going is fishing the main lake points in 6' to 12' of water. Big worms are the best bait. Crist said they fished a 100' stretch of a point to catch all their fish, so if you catch one work the area hard for a school of fish. I've noticed this year that the fish are more grouped together than they have been in past years.

CRAPPIE: As I said earlier the crappie are as good as I have seen them in a long time, and they are real thick. I guess during the flood they just sat around and got fat. The tree rows in 15' to 20' of water are the best areas right now. Fish minnows about 8' down. The bluff banks are also producing good numbers of fish. 20' to 30' of water fishing about 12' down with minnows has been working. Cedar trees seem to be the best type of cover at this point.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: There are still some hybrids surfacing in the evenings. O 3 and KK Island seem to be the better spots. The evening bite is the only way to go. The Sassy Shad has been the top producer in these areas. I have not seen any whites yet this week but with the hot weather we are having I think this will start picking up.

CATFISH: Jugs are the best bite right now. Fish the flats with 12' to 15' of water setting stages about 6'. Cut shad and little smokies are still working the best. With the warm water temps remember to check you jugs often.

Just a friendly reminder to take extra ice, water and or Gatorade in the boat with the heat. This time of the year it doesn't take long to get over heated.

August 1, 2007 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek - It's all good news on Truman this week. The lake is slowly getting back to normal. The logs and drift seem to pretty well be a thing of the past. There is still a bunch in front of the dam but the COE is starting the clean up on that today. The water clarity is great running from clear to lightly stained on all arms of the lake. The lake level this morning is at 717.36. The water temp is 80 deg. The COE has slowed the flow through the dam a little but we are still falling at a good rate. And the best part is that the fishing has really picked up.

BASS: Last night in the Hawg Fights Marty Watson and Doug Long brought in the winning stringer weighing 12.67 lbs. Second went to Kenny Mason and Randy James with 12.17 lbs. Third was Randy Lutjan and Kevin Love with 11.77 lbs. Big Bass was brought in by Larry Wright and Hap Hartman weighing 4.74 lbs. The fish seemed to be holding in 4' to 6' of water off the main lake points. Big worms and brush hogs were the top producing baits. I also heard jigs fished in the flooded willows off the points was working. The bass bite is as good as I have seen it in a good while.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishing has really turned on here on Truman. With the lake dropping we are starting to see the tree rows popping back out. 20' of water has been the best depth when fished with minnows 8' down. Look for the trees that are just starting to pop out. Cedars had been doing the best but Marty Zych said don't pass up any trees they all seem to have fish on them. I have noticed that the crappie coming in are in real good shape. They have thickened up a bunch.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The hybrid fishing has also turned on. We have seen a lot of fish in the 8' to 11' range. They have been surfacing in the evening. The G 4 and O 3 areas are two of the top spots. The Sassy Shad has been the best bait when rigged on a 1/2 to 3/4 oz. head. Last night I saw good numbers of whites surfacing around the islands out in front of Sterett Creek. The best bite time seems to be from around 5 pm. to dark.

CATFISH: Jugs fished in 20' of water set about 8' has done great on catfish this week. Leeches and cut shad are the top baits. Local catfish expert Dick Caton said that little smokies were working also.I'm not sure if Disk is eating the leftover bait or not.
