May 29, 2008 - Lake of the Ozarks - Submitted by Old Oar House Inn Mile Marker 81 -Lake of the Ozark water elevation is 660.29'. Truman lake water elevation is 712.90'. Spillway water temperature is 67 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam is 24,000 CFS Turbines and 8,000 CFS Spillway

Crappie: Excellent:

Chris Tally from across the cove and her gang out of Holden, MO did very well this weekend using Chartreuse colored jigs and had a basket of fish to show for their efforts. I saw several pie plate fish that were guaranteed to provide some great eating for her and her friends. Her husband Bob was allegedly skunked so it's a good thing Chris did well. I also saw several folks down on our docks fishing the banks during the evening hours this weekend using minnows who also did very well. As usual, just below Truman dam in the coves was producing some great fish as well.

Catfish: Excellent!

Blue and Channel Cats are biting real well on shad bellies right now. Bill Forestall and buddy Harry Livingston both from Independence, MO showed me some real nice blue catfish they caught using shad bellies. We also had a trot liner who went by the name of JP who showed me no less than 50# of great looking channel and blue catfish he caught Saturday evening. One of his fish was over 20#. He used mostly shad bellies with the scales scraped off to release the full scent into the water and he also had an occasional live perch on every 4th hook or so. It won't be long and the flatheads will be coming off their nests and are guaranteed to be hungry.

Largemouth Bass: Good

The bass fishing continues to improve as the water temps warm. I saw several nice bass landed by Chris and Stephanie Nichols and Lynn Mook from Kansas City MO. The threesome was fishing on the South end of our docks using a variety of baits to include minnows, jigs and worms. Mike Westmoreland stopped by to gas up his boat and showed me a real nice 7# bass he'd caught on a rubber worm up Turkey Creek in a brush

White Bass: Good

White bass are being caught below Truman Dam in the rapids. Top water silver Rapallo hinged minnows fished at dusk are producing great results. I heard two reports of numerous 2# 4# fish being caught from the shore line as the evening sun was setting on the horizon.

Walleye: No Report

We endorse trophy fish catch and release!

Remember; a bad day fishing is better than a great day at work!

May 28, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina - What a great week of fishing. Even with a little rain in the mornings the fishing was the best it has been all season. We are seeing lots of big crappie, hybrids and whites and catfish. The bass fishing is fantastic. The water is still a little stained but it has not affected the fishing in the least. The COE is still running water everyday so this should keep the whites and hybrids going for a good while. If you are looking for a really great fishing trip you need to hit Truman right now.

LAKE LEVEL: 712.9
WATER TEMP: 68 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Stained

BASS: Last nights Hawg Fights produced some of the best stringers of the year. In three hours Ernie Cox and Jack Hocket won the honors with a 17.22 lb. bag of fish. Second place was Steve Blake and Jim Lehares with 11.77 lbs followed closely by Doug and Ozzie Wallace with 11.07 lbs. Big bass went to Larry Wright and Hap Hartman with a 4.85 largemouth. Right now just about every bait is working from top water to the bottom numbers. The top producers were jig and frog and baby bush hogs fished in 3' of water or less. The fish are on lay downs about 1/2 way back in the coves around the secondary points. There were also fish in 6' to 8' of water on the first trees off the bank. Look for 45 degree banks.

CRAPPIE: The crappie have have moved to the summer pattern and are in the feed mode after the spawn. Minnows by far are the best bait. Big Tebo seems to be producing better than the rest of the arms right now. Fish are holding in the 8' area. If you are fishing 9' of water fish 8' or if you are fishing 20' fish 8' deep. They are holding tight in the cedars and hedge trees, right next to the trunks. It's time to get out the long poles and go have a blast. The T 6 and Clear Creek areas are producing some of the best fish I have seen all spring.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Last weekend we saw several hybrids in the 10 lb range. There were a few surfacing fish but most were taken on spoons off the bottom in about 16' of water. The cemetary and KK Island were very good and G 4 produced some good fish. With the COE running water and the lake coming down I look for the wier to start along with O 3.

CATFISH: Brady Haggerman and the boys came in this weekend and showed us some real nice flatheads. They caught them on black perch off trot lines in the big and little Tebo arms. Fish were in 6' to 8' of water. There were lots of channels caught on floating lines baited with leeches. These lines were set on the flats next to deep water with the stages set about 16".

May 21, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  It looks like the weather has finally settled down and is going to give us a break for a while. The lake is still stained but I think most of that is from the wind. The fishing is picking up nicely with lots of whites and hybrids coming in along with crappie and bass. The weatherman said the weekend is looking good so lets hope for a really good holiday.

LAKE LEVEL: 714.10
WATER TEMP: 64 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Stained.

BASS: Last nights Hawg Fights did a big turn around from last week and as all fisherman do we will use the excuse of it was the day of the full moon which is usually a slower day of fishing. Sounds good anyway. Bob Dodd and Jim Lehares were the winners with 7.09 lbs.
Second was Terry Close and Bill Hass with 6.67 lbs. Third and big bass was Daniel Roberts and Kevin Cheek with a good looking 6.35lb fish caught on a spinner bait. Brush hog and lizards were the best working baits when fished in the nitches in 5' of water. I am looking for the fish to back off a little deeper due to the fact that the COE is running 30,000 cfs thru the dam and the lake is falling about 5" a day. This should start putting these fish on the secondary points.

CRAPPIE: Right now the crappie seem to be scattered out everywhere. There are still a few fish in 5' of water and also fish on the summer pattern in 20' to 30' of water. Jigs are still working on the shallow fish and minnows and jigs on the suspended fish. The suspended fish are down between 8' and 15' on the outside tree rows.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We are starting to see some really good hybrids come in. Last night Charles Shue weighed in a 11.17 lb. hybrid caught on the cemetery. There are some fish starting to work the surface. The jigging spoon is still working the best. Fish seen to be in all the old haunts in 15' to 25' of water. The cemetery and KK Island being two of the better spots.

CATFISH: Jugs and trot lines on the flats are working when baited with leeches and little smokies. Floating lines set in 8' to 10' of water with baits set about 12" are working. Deep water needs to be close by.

May 20, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service - Lake Level: 930.20

Water Temperature: 65-68

Fishing was great until about Wednesday of last week, then it seemed all the fish disappeared! I think with the full moon days away and the warmer temperatures those fish that hadn't spawned that we had been hanging around the 12' 20' range all went into the trees and brush to spawn. There are fish locked on beds in several areas of the lake, some we can't see with the high water level.

The bass will be back on the main lake graveled points at 12' 25' right after they spawn. Look for the newly spawned bass with split shot and Carolina rigged lizards, French fries, and centipedes in green pumpkin or watermelon and football jigs in peanut butter & jelly and brown with purple, working your bait very slowly.

Around the flooded bushes and timber try a wacky rigged Senko in watermelon red, smoke with black, or red flake, around the base of the timbers or skipping that bait under the brush and working it out towards the boat slowly. 4" 5" swim baits will also work well in these areas.

I have heard reports of drop shot fish being caught 25' 30' over 40' 60' on main lake and secondary points.

Top water bite has started early and late in the day or on overcast
days. We are catching them on Spooks, Red Fins, & Sammy's. You will not get many as bites fishing the top water baits, but they are quality bass. Who doesn't like to watch a bass explode on the top water baits? Good Luck!

May 14, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  If this week's fishing is any indication of what the rest of the year has in store for us all I can say is we are in for one fantastic year. Even with all the rain and high water the fishing is great. We are seeing lots of bass, crappie, whites and even a few walleye. The water temp is still a little cool but that hasn't seemed to effect the fish. The sad thing is the mushrooms have come to an end along with turkey season. Oh well I guess we will have to tough it out and just eat crappie without mushrooms.

LAKE LEVEL: 717.50
WATER TEMP: 62 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Stained.

BASS: This is the time of the year that bass fishing is at it's finest. It doesn't seem to matter what bait you throw you can still catch fish. Last night in the Hawg Fights we heard of fish being caught on ( and the list is long ) jig and frog, worms, lizards, spinner baits and even Pop 's. The winning stringer was caught by Crist Fanning and Terry Close on spinner baits weighing 17.98 lbs. Now this was done in 3 hours. Second was Jack Hockett and Clint Rayburn with 13.39 lbs. on lizards. 3rd went to Shane Tumlinson and John Fergerson with 10.13 on worms. Big bass was 6.10 lbs caught by Russell Beck and Ernie Cox. Most of the fish were caught right off the bank in 2' to 5' of water. The pockets in the coves about 1/2 way back seems to be the best spots. The fish are holding off the last weeds you see sticking out of the water.

CRAPPIE: We are still seeing some bedding fish in our area. They seem to be holding off the pea gravel points in 3' to 5' of water. A jig and bobber set about 16" has been working well. From what I am hearing the flatter points seem to be working the best. I have heard of a few deeper crappie being caught but I don't know if these fish have moved to the summer pattern or they are the females that haven't come in to spawn yet.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We have been seeing good numbers of whites come in all week. These fish have moved to the humps. Remember the lake is up 10' so fish the breaks off what used to be the shallow humps. Jigging spoons and trolling crank baits are working the best. With the lake high and the COE running water every day I am looking for a good run on these fish for a good while. Guide Steve Blake said he saw fish surfacing already.

CATFISH:. The cat fishing is still good. Jugs and trot lines are both working. Fish seem to be holding on the flats next to creek channels. 10' of water with sets about 6'. Little smokies and black perch seem to be working the best. We will have leeches in on Fri. and with the water warming I think I would run some shallow floating lines.

May 13, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -
Lake Level: 929.52 - Water Temp: 59-61

There are a lot of fish being caught right now, some are in pre-spawn and some post-spawn. The same patterns seem to be working all over the lake.

Best areas seem to be from Indian Point to Aunt's Creek and up the White River to Baxter. 4" 5" grubs, and 3" 4" tubes fished on 14 oz. jig heads in smoke, slat & pepper, and watermelon red colors working well. Set the boat in 20' 25' fishing flat points with pea gravel bottoms, and points leading into spawning pockets working best. It's hard to tell what points are pea gravel due to the high water, look for points that have a gradual slope into deeper water.

Some days the fish are suspended and other days they are on bottom. Cast towards the tree line about 10' 12' deep and let the bait fall to the bottom and work it back slowly. When the fish seem to be on the bottom many other bait types will work, such as a split shot, Carolina rigs, football jigs, and lizards fished in the same depths.

There continues to be fish caught on spinnerbaits around flooded willow trees and a topwater bite on Spooks, Chug Bugs, & Red Fins. Fish seem to be slapping at the baits missing them but this bite will continue to get better I believe as more fish spawn and the water temperatures rise. We have seen water temps cool recently with the cooler evenings. Going from 65-67 degrees to 59 61 degrees.

Good Luck!

May 6, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  It looks like the weather may finally be going to straighten its self out, at least maybe we won't see anymore frosts till fall. The lake is still falling and the water color is great, and the crappie are on the banks. The bass fishing is starting to improve and I think we will see allot of bedding fish on the next moon change. So if you are looking for a good fishing trip now would be a good time to hit Truman.

LAKE LEVEL: 715.21
WATER TEMP: 60 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Stained.

BASS: Last nights Hawg fights showed a good improvement in the bass fishing here on Truman. Howard Love and John Pollit weighed in a winning stringer of 14.88 lbs with a big fish of 4.86 lbs. For the third week in a row Jack Hockett and Jeff Swacker came in second place with 6.36 lbs. Third went to Chuck Strohman and Tom Novinska with 2.25. After it was all over everybody agreed that the fish were holding in 3' to 5' of water on the buck brush 1/2 way back in the coves. The baits varied from jig and frog to beavers to brush hogs to worms. In other words if you were throwing a bottom bumper you probably caught fish. The fish are still holding in the nitches in the creeks close to the secondary points.

CRAPPIE: The crappie are on the banks. Fish are being caught in 2' to 4' of water. A jig and bobber seem to be working the best. Look for pea gravel points. The fish seem to be on the points and on the back side of the points in the nitches. We have seen allot of real nice fish come in this week. they are running about 1/2 males 1/2 females and the females are still caring eggs.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: No report.

CATFISH: The catfish are still doing good on jugs. The fish are still holding on the flats next to deep water in about 8' of water. Little smokies and cut shad are working the best in our area. For those of you who ask we should have leeches in the latter part of next week.

May 1, 2008 - Lake of the Ozarks - Submitted by Old Oar House Inn Mile Marker 81 -

Lake of the Ozark water elevation is 661.31'. Truman lake water elevation is 718.43'. Spillway water temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam is 43,000 CFS

Spoonbill: Outstanding!

Another fantastic year is almost behind us. Young 7 year old Lucas is shown here with his Dad Jeremy, from Independence, MO and the 4 nice spoonbill they caught Friday night after only two hours of fishing. It's obvious to me this 7 year old has cracked the code on spoonbill fishing. So easy a kid can do it! Congratulations son! P.S. Tell your dad he still owes me $6!

Our last Spoonbill tournament was a resounding success again this year. There were 98 entrants with first place going to Shelly ("RAT") Corbin from Chillicothe, MO whose 1st place fish weighed 56.2# and paid her $980. 2nd Place and $590 went to Mark "Little Mexico" Crawford' of St. Louis with his 52.8# fish and 3rd place and $390 went to John Mackey from Marshall, MO with his 52.2# fish. These low weights show that anyone can win these tournaments. Great job gang!

Daughter-in-law "Netty" is shown here with her first ever Spoonbill. You go girl! She showed her husband how to "git-er-done" as his fish wasn't the minimum legal length. Although to Bruce's credit I received a report he limited out early Monday morning on a couple nice sows.

The Little Mexico "March of the Penguins" played out a second sequel this weekend when Brian Awalt face planted in the lake trying to imitate Petey's "perfect man-overboard summersault" from last week. Story has it the fish pulled him overboard, but when I heard John Wren was driving I quickly figured out what really happened. Never stand in the boat when John is driving. Dude! What were you drinking, I mean thinking? You gotta love that little Mexico Gang!

Crappie: Excellent:

Crappies are really starting to bite well. I saw several folks down on our docks fishing the banks during the evening hours this weekend. It won't be long and folks will be limiting out. Minnows and jigs always do the trick. For best results if you have a boat fish just below Truman Dam in some of the side coves where I hear large schools are beginning to congregate.

Catfish: Excellent!

The proof is in the pudding, or in this case picture. My son Bruce III is shown here with a great stringer of white cats he caught down under the cleaning station Saturday afternoon. This stringer is light a few fish he had already given away. They are biting great on livers and sport an average weight around 2# each. Great fanfare for the table!

Largemouth Bass: Good

The bass fishing continues to improve. I saw a nice 4 12 largemouth caught on a jig by one of our crappie fishermen. I received the same report as last week that nice bass are being caught among the rocks in the coves. Crank baits and large spinners worked again.

White Bass & Walleye: No Report

We endorse trophy fish catch and release!

April 30, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  This week I really thought the weather had broke but mother nature threw us another curve ball. These cold nights backed the water temp up again. We had crappie starting to move to the banks last Thursday and then the rain and cold came in on Saturday night backing them off. We are supposed to be on a warming trend the rest of the week so I would look for good things to happen again. The turkeys are still gobbling and there are still a good number of mushrooms being found. The COE is lowering the lake at a slow enough rate that I think the fish may spawn shallow and everything will work out in their favor.

LAKE LEVEL:717.5

WATER TEMP: 58 deg

WATER CLARITY: Stained

BASS: The bass on Truman seem to be in a confused state. Surely it can't be confused fisherman. Think shallow, as on the banks shallow. Jig and frog and spinner baits fished in 2' of water will catch fish. Secondary points in the creeks on the nitch side has been producing. Last nights Hawg Fights were won by Ernie Cox and Russell Beck with 4.20 lbs. Second and big bass was Jack Hockett and Clint Rayburn with a 4.05. Third was Larry Wright and Larry Mitchell with 2.98. The fish have moved shallow.

CRAPPIE: Last night we found crappie on the banks in 2' of water. Fish 12 to 34 of the way back in the coves. Pitch a jig and bobber on the bank. The crappie seem to be holding off the pea gravel points. Don't be afraid to fish the dirtier water.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: No report.

CATFISH: Sill on jugs on the flats. Little smokies are still working. Trot lines baited with black perch are also starting to work. Fish 15' of water next to the channels down about 8'.

Mandy's Mission was a big success last weekend. A big thank you to all who opened their hearts and pocket books for this girl.

Till next week

April 24, 2008 - Lake of the Ozarks - Submitted by Old Oar House Inn Mile Marker 81 -

Lake of the Ozark water elevation is 661.47'. Truman lake water elevation is 717.52'. Spillway water temperature is 55 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam is 48,000 CFS through the turbines.

Spoonbill:

Outstanding!

The best spoonbill fishing is right now. With the Snag Master's Tournament held this weekend we easily saw over 200 fish from our docks. I don't have an official report on the biggest fish and what it paid but rumor control said it weighed about 76# and netted the angler over $2,000. Anthony Mercer of Kansas City area is shown here proudly displaying his first ever spoonbill with his dad. His first ever fish weighed 50#. Well done lad!

Crappie:

Excellent:

I am starting to hear some really good reports of crappie running in the tributaries and folks limiting out just below Truman. Fish the south facing bluffs for best results. Live minnows are the most productive followed by chartreuse jigs. Find the proper depth and mark it and you should have your limit within an hour.

Catfish:

Excellent!

I continue to hear good reports on catfish. Shad bellies presented on the flats just before the main channel drop off are producing some nice blue and white cats. Get ready for trotline season which is just around the corner following the last day of spoonbill which is April 30th. Live perch will prove the most productive. I had a report last year of 100# plus blue cat almost caught the first week of trotline season last year. The monster blue had grabbed a 7# white cat that had taken the shad belly on the hook. Because the big blue was never hooked the white cat slipped out of his throat after the fishermen struggled for a few minutes trying to boat the monster.

Largemouth Bass:

Good

The bass fishing continues to improve slowly. I didn't see any fish this weekend but received a report of some nice bass caught among the rocks in one of the coves. Crank baits and large spinners did the trick for the two anglers.
White Bass & Walleye

April 23, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  This is one of those fishing reports that are hard to write. We know what is going to happen in the next couple of days but it just hasn't started yet. With the weather we have now and the water temp in the coves reaching 60 deg. it's just a matter of time. The mushrooms are out in full force and the turkeys are really gobbling. We are starting to see a few crappie come in off the lake but I would say that that number should pick up every day. The lake is clearing up nicely so come and enjoy the great spring weather.

LAKE LEVEL: 718.77
WATER TEMP: 53 deg at the dam. Coves are much warmer
WATER CLARITY: STAINED.

BASS: Last nights Hawg Fights weren't really what I expected. With the weather and the water conditions I looked for 15 lbs. but I guess the fish weren't thinking like I was. Tom Novinska and Chuck Strohman took first place with 5.46 lbs and big bass with 3.07 lbs. Jack and Rob Hockett came in second with 1.96 lbs. The winning stringer came off secondary points towards the back end of a cove. The water temp was 63 deg. The fish came out of 8' of water on spinner baits and jigs. I really think if we would of stayed in that area we could have caught more fish. Look for transition points going from chunk rock to clay. Look for shad working the surface.

CRAPPIE: We are seeing a few fish starting to come in off the lake and as I said earlier I think it will improve by the day. Saturday Jeff Raskie and Kerry King brought in 10 fish weighing 10.10 lbs with a big fish weighing 1.7 lbs. They said they caught their fish out of 25' of water 14' deep. They were fishing the deep water trees in the dam area. I think one thing to remember this year on spawning crappie is that with the lake being 13' high they will spawn in deeper water. I would look for spawners in 6' to 8' of water.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: No Report.

CATFISH: Jugs are still working in our area. And you guessed it little smokies are sill the best bait. The fish are holding on the flats in 15' of water with the bait set about 8'. Deep water needs to be close by.

Don't forget this Sat. is the Mandy's Mission Benefit Crappie Tournament. It's for a very good cause with a fish fry and auction. You can contact Brenda Burris at 417-309-0181 for info. It will be out of Sterett Creek Marina.

April 16, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  The lake is finally on the down hill slide. The COE is running water at a good rate but we still have a good flow coming in to offset it. The lake has dropped about a foot since the weekend and hope it will continue going in that direction.
The water color is starting to look a little better but the water temp is sure slow at rising. The weatherman sounds like he is going to be a little kinder to us this week with some warmer weather and maybe the wind will even slow down. The fishing may be a little slow but the mushrooms are starting to pop and the turkeys are starting to gobble.

LAKE LEVEL: 721.62
WATER TEMP: 51 deg
WATER CLARITY: Stained

BASS: Even with the tough weather and water conditions the bass fishing is not to bad. We had the first Hawg Fight last night and Steve Blake and Jin Lehares proved that you can still catch fish in the toughest conditions. They weighed in 8.92 lbs. in 2 1/2 hours. Their fish came on spinner baits out of 7' of water about 4' down. Second place went to Larry Wright and Hap Hartman With a big old fish weighing 6.24 lbs. They caught their fish on clown rogues in Big Tebo. The fish seem to be holding on the willows on the flats.

CRAPPIE: This week again with the cold water temp and the wind the fish on Truman haven't got it going yet. There is still a good bite in the dead water below the dam. A jig tipped with a minnow seems to do the best when fished 9' to 10'. Hopefully the fish will get going next week on the lake.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: No Report.

CATFISH: With the falling water the cat fishing has backed off a little. There are still a few fish coming in on jugs off the flats. Cut shad and little smokies are still the best baits. The fish seem to be holding in about 15' of water.

Don't forget Mandy's Mission Crappie Benefit Tournament on the 26th. of April. For info call Brenda at 417-309-0181. In my last report I said Mandy had cancer which was incorrect. Mandy suffers from Friedreich's Ataxia which at this time there is no cure.Stem cell research is the most promising development for reversing the damage and regenerating lost capabilities. So please help us get Mandy to China to receive the stem cell treatment.

April 15, 2008 - Lake of the Ozarks - Submitted by Old Oar House Inn Mile Marker 81 -

Lake of the Ozark water elevation is 658.47'. Truman lake water elevation is 715.22'. Spillway water temperature is 51 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam is 32,000 CFS through the turbines.

Spoonbill:

Excellent!

Dustin and Dennis Adams, a father and son duet from Fulton, MO pictured here, are shown here with their 82# spoonbill which is the biggest fish I've seen weighed on the scales this year. They caught it up near the power lines at the 84 mm which is the same place an 80 # fish was caught a few weeks ago. This area seems to be a good holding area for some large schools of fish. Once again I heard the fish were stacked real well here and they were also catching them off the flats, not just the deep main channel. Great fish guys!

Crappie:

Good.

I continue to hear mixed reports on the crappie fishing. The cold temperatures definitely slowed things down a bit. I'd recommend working the south facing bluffs in the deeper water with a variety of jigs until you discover what depth the fish are located then toss out a marker and fish that depth. Minnows should also work real well once you locate the fish. I've heard they are hungry when you find them.

Catfish:

Excellent!

My predictions on fishing jug lines below the cleaning station are beginning to pan out in a big way as evidenced by this great photo of Jason Stanfield and Chris Cunningham and friends from Brookfield, MO. Collectively they had over 50# in catfish to show me Saturday morning. Those white cats are some of the best I have seen in a long time. They fished jugs and liver below the cleaning station on both sides of the main channel for this great stringer. They said they caught their best fish on the opposite side of the main channel.

Largemouth Bass:

Fair

I had a report the bass fishing continues to be slow with only a few good fish being landed. No doubt the cold has impacted the bass as well as the crappie.

April 14, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -

Lake Temp: 52-54 - Lake Level: 932.00 Normal Pool: 915.00

Table Rock is 18 feet over normal pool and the fish are scattered all over from the shoreline out to the old bank line in 18' 20'. Spinnerbaits have been by far the most productive lure. Some fish coming from submerged trees, bushes & buck brush that are normally high and dry.

Try setting the boat at the tree line, which is about 15'- 20' and tossing the spinnerbait towards the bank. In most places it is so far back you can't see it and slow roll the bait back to the boat. Fish the bait from 1' 6' until you find the depth they bite at for that day, depths can change readily.

12 oz. 34 oz. baits working best for shallower cover, and the best blade combinations have been Colorado willow and tandem willow blades in gold or gold and nickel, also try some painted blades in white or chartreuse in the more stained water. Lots of different skirt combinations working. What are working best for me have been slaw colored for the muddy water and the chartreuse blue for the stained water. Crankbaits such as Wigglewarts, Bombers, & Strike King's that run 6' 8' deep will also work at catching these bass.

Should be many fish on beds this weekend with the full moon if the sun comes out and stays out. This very well could be one of Table Rocks best years for the spawn, lake levels should stay high as there is no place for the water to go giving the bass fry an excellent cover to survive. Good Luck & Good Fishing!

April 9, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  The lake is starting to fall nicely but the weather sure can't make up it's mind what it wants to do. One day you are in tee shirts the next your wearing long johns. I think the fish are feeling the same affects that we are. The one thing for sure is that it has to warm up sooner or later. If we could get just three days of warm weather in a row I think these fish would go nuts. Not only that but the mushrooms would pop. We will be starting the HAWG FIGHTS Tues. night the 15th. Fishing from 5:30 to 8:00 pm.

LAKE LEVEL: 716.46
WATER TEMP: 50 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Upper arms dirty, back ends
the creeks are clearing. Our
area is stained but fishable.

BASS: The best bass bite in our area is 1/2 way back in the coves slow rolling a spinner bait around the mouths of the nitches. The fish seem to be holding in 4' to 6' of water. Guide Steve Blake brought in a nice looking 6.40 lbs. this week. There are still a few Rogue fish being caught of the secondary points and here again you have to work it slow. You can find some 53 deg. water in some of the way backs. Might not hurt to pitch a jig in the bends along the ditches in the back end. Look for shad.

CRAPPIE: There have been a few crappie caught out of 6' to 8' of water in the back ends of the major creeks. These fish were holding in the cedars on the flat banks. We need another 5 to 6 deg. of water temp to get the crappie started. With the wind and the rain there just hasn't been that many people out chasing crappie

WHITES & HYBRIDS: No Report.

CATFISH: The cat fishing is still good on jugs. The fish have moved out of the back ends of the creeks towards the flats. Little smokies are still the best bait in our area. Jugs set at about 8' seem to be working the best in 15' of water.

Please don't forget the MANDY'S MISSION benefit crappie tournament on the 26th. of April. This young lady really needs our help. There will be plenty of food, an auction and a DJ. If you want more info you can contact Brenda Burris at 660-885-8127 or 417-309-0181. Even if you can't fish the tournament come on out that day and par take in the events. April 8, 2008 - Lake of the Ozsarks - Submitted by Old Oar House Inn Mile Marker 81 -

Lake of the Ozark water elevation is 659.57'. Truman lake water elevation is 714.83'. Spillway water temperature is 49 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam is 29,000 CFS through the turbines.

Spoonbill:

Excellent!

Spoonbill is close to getting as good as it gets. I'm seeing good sows weighed on the docks but based on their numbers I don't think their run has yet peaked.

The tournament was a huge success with 150 entrants. The 1st place fish was landed in our Guide, Brian Heinan's boat by Dan Newton from Gretna, NE and weighed 79.4# (digital scale) and paid the "skilled" angler $525. Great fish Dan! 2nd place went to Darrell Kruger from Marshall, MO with his 75# fish and paid him $375; 3rd place went to Austin Anders from Oak Grove, MO with a 70.2# fish and earned him $300; 4th place went to Nick Pointer from Marshall, MO with a 67.4# fish and paid $150; 5th place went to Little Mexico's Steven Maxwell from Mexico, MO with a 61.6# fish and earned him $105; and the 6th place runner up was Tony Burne's 60# fish that will pay him $45 when he shows up to collect it!

As is usually the case, a 90# hog of a sow which I didn't see was reportedly caught only 14 mile upstream from us by someone who had not registered for the tournament. "Petey" from the Little Mexico gang reported fell off the boat when he was fishing the Spoonbill Tournament and I was told it was like watching the "March of the Penguins" the way he shot out of the water back onto the boat like a penguin launching onto an iceberg. I imagine the 50 degree water had something to do with it.

Crappie:

Good

Crappie fishing continues to improve and there are signs the spawning run is just around the corner. I'm hearing mixed reports of good crappie numbers in the still water areas just below Truman Dam and in some of the coves in the shallower water where the water temps are rising. Pete was by again for dinner Saturday and reported he did well fishing for crappie using jigs on the southern exposed bluffs. He said he caught his fish in deeper water and they were very light in color indicating they are beginning to rise from the deeper holes.

Catfish:

Mixed

I've had reports the cats are biting on shad bellies around tributaries of feeder streams but didn't see any fish brought in this weekend. The cats have quit biting at our cleaning station. I believe they are running so much water from Truman that the current is immediately flushing the fish scraps away down stream. I talked to a couple and their friend on Sunday and they hadn't had a bite. This young lady was a Major in the Army and this was her last weekend with her husband before being deployed to Iraq on Thursday. Been there and done that Personally I can't think of a better way to say goodbye for a year than spending time with a loved one quietly fishing on a beautiful day as it was. Young lady thank you for your service, be safe and Godspeed.

Largemouth Bass:

Fair

Pete's specialty is the largemouth bass which he reported were caught in the same location as the Crappie and White Bass. He was fishing deep along a bluff using light colored grubs and a Carolina rigged lizard in a pumpkin color. He said pumpkin colors historically have worked well for him in the spring.

White Bass

Good

Pete also reported catching a few nice white bass this weekend in addition to the Crappie and Largemouth Bass. His fish averaged 1-3# and were also caught along the bluffs in the deeper water. He used Chartreuse and red tube jigs. I've had a few folks tell me the tube jigs have been working real well for them. He said the bass are biting real light and it's best to use real light tackle in order to detect the bite. Plus it's a lot of fun to catch any fish on light tackle.

April 8, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -

Water Temp: 53-58 Lake Level: 927.21

A few days of sunshine can really make a difference. The lake warmed up a few degrees 53-54 in the mornings warming up to 56-58 in the afternoon in the stained water, which is just about everywhere right now.

Sounds like the White River at Baxter to Shell Knob was the hot area this weekend. Lots of fish reported being caught on spinnerbaits around and in the bushes and heavy cover. 3/8 and 12 oz. gold or painted blades white and chartreuse working best. Fish will continue to move into the bushes now that the temperatures are rising. We may be seeing some fish on beds by this weekend.

The dam are is producing some big smallmouths on main lake gravel and secondary points, on 4" 5" single tailed grubs with 14 oz. jig heads. Fish the out in front of the trees in 10' 15' of water. The best colors would be smoke, pearl, and salt & pepper. Look for any clearer water for this pattern.

Also split shot and Carolina rigged French fries, and Senko'scatching fishin the same areas as grubs and the green pumpkin and watermelon red areworking best.

Senko's and floating worms should also start working in the bushes. White or Bubblegum floating worms with no weight or black neon and water melon red Senco's rigged wacky style.

April 2, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  More rain and more high water, great isn't it. It seems like mother nature is just bound and determined to mess with our spring fishing. The lake is on a steady rise and the COE is not running enough water to do much good at this point. This last rain has put alot of color in the lake. I don't think it will take long to clean up but right now it is a little dirty, the big thing right now is to get the water turned on and get rid of some of what we have.

LAKE LEVEL: 717.2
WATER TEMP: 45 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Heavy stain to dirty.

BASS: The bass fishing that stated out pretty good there a week or so ago turned around and went the other way. One of the local bass clubs had a tournament out Sunday and showed how slow fishing can get with a major cold front and rising water. Two fish weighing a little over 6 lbs. won the tournament. Second place went to Ron Tadkin with a fish weighing a little over 5 lbs. which was also big bass. There were fish caught on jerk baits and there were fish caught on jigs. The main thing is that most of the fish are hanging on the secondary points, and the farther back the point the better off you are. If the shad are not around the points neither are the fish.

CRAPPIE: No report this week. With the high water and all the rain no one has been out chasing crappie.

WHITES: No report.

CATFISH: The good thing about high rising water is that the catfish love it. We have seen allot of catfish come in is week. Cut shad and little smokies are still the top two baits on this end of the lake. Jugs seem to be working better than anything right now. The fish are moving up the backends of the creeks. Look for 8' of water close to the creek channel.

Now you people who read this report every week know that I don't plug very many tournaments. Well I have to make an exception for this one. We have a very sick young lady that needs our help and they are going to put on a benefit crappie tournament called Mandy's Mission for her. It is going to be April 26 here at Sterett Creek. There will be a auction and fish fry after the tournament with music and a DJ. April 1, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -  Water temperature: 52-54

Lake Level: 926.32

Fishing still pretty tough, the water level dropping each day. It is
currently 10' above normal. Continues to rain, another 3" 5"
expected lake
level should rise once again.

The river arms were starting to clear up with the debris settling down.

Fish are being caught on spinnerbaits in 3'-8' of water around submerged bushes and trees. Chartreuse and white is working good on the
spinnerbaits. Try some flipping tubes and jigs around the base of trees. The color or lure will depend on the water clarity. In heavily mudded areas use black/neon, black/blue or black/chartreuse. In the stained water try watermelon red flake, green pumpkin, or brown hues. Catching some
smallmouths from the Baxter area to the Dam, fishing in 10' 20' with football jigs, Carolina rigs, or split shotting French fry worms. The best areas seem to be in the creeks on secondary points.

I think some of the fish are extremely shallow. They are just hard to get to because of the high water. As the water recedes it should pull some of these fish out to the edge of the bushes or tree lines.

March 31, 2008 - Lake of the Ozsarks - Submitted by Old Oar House Inn Mile Marker 81 - Lake of the Ozark water elevation is 659.57. Truman lake water elevation is 714.83. Spillway water temperature is 47.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam is 29,000 CFS through the turbines.

Walleye

Slow

Mike Shirley caught this monster walleye that tipped the scales at 6# - 10oz Saturday morning. This is the biggest walleye I have ever seen caught in Lake of the Ozarks. He caught it in 6' of water just below Truman on the same tube jig he caught his nice crappie on. Well done Mike! That's the best eating fish in the lake right there!

Spoonbill:

Improving

I am noticing a marked inmprovement in the spoonbill fishing. Not only are a lot of nice males being caught but I⤙m seeing some great female fish begining to show up on our scales. Bill Kamerlynch is shown here with his guide Dave Yount both from Independence, MO with the biggest fish I have seen this year. Bill⤙s nice sow tipped the scales at 84#s and was caught at 0930 at mile marker #84 in 40⤙ of water. An interesting coincidence if you ask me! Does this mean there are 93# fish at the 93 mile marker? Dudeâ¤?.. that fish is bigger then you! Dave said he could see the fish stacked up on his fish finder. Eddie Admire and his lovely bride from Excel Springs are shown here with his first spoonbill ever. He caught the fish after only 30 minutes of fishing and has earned the T-Shirt he⤙ll be wearing this week stating â¤Spoonbill, I got mineâ¤?. Congrats Eddie!

Crappie:

Good

Mike Shirley from Warrensburg, MO had a great day of fishing just below Truman Dam. Mike is pictured here with a nice â¤pie plateâ¤? crappie he caught on a Bobbi Garland tube jig in 6⤙ of water. Tommy Dees from Springhill. MO showed us a great stringer of crappie he caught on yellow and charteuse jigs. Tommy said to fish the south facing bluffs in about 10⤙ of water for the bigger fish.

Catfish:

Very Good

The cats are really beginning to bite shad bellies near the mouths of tributaries and along the mud flats right above the main channel. I saw a nice 7# blue cat that was caught on worms down near our cleaning station. Wait another couple weeks and the catfish should be stacked real nice below our cleaning station. If I⤙ve said it once I⤙ve said it 100 times. Jug lines and livers on treble hooks around the cleaning station in the wee hours of the morning should begin to produce some real trophy class catfish.

Largemouth Bass:

Good

Greg and Ron Peck from KC, MO were taking part in the Childrens Miracle Network Bass Tournament this weekend and stopped in for some fuel and showed me these two nice bass they had recently added to their live well. Greg said the fish were caught on jigs, among the rocks. He wasn⤙t too specific due to the fact he was right in the middle of a tournament but the proof was swimming in his live well!

White Bass

Improving

I received my first report that the white bass were beginning to congregate just below the spillway from Truman. Tube jigs were beginning to produce some 3-4# fish. Another few weeks and spinners fished high right at dusk below the falls should produce nicely.

We endorse trophy fish catch and release!

Did you know 10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish?!

March 26, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -
Water Temp: 46-48
Lake Level: 928.00

Just about everyone I have spoken to that fishes the lake all the time are
really struggling to catch fish right now.

Fishing is tough as the lake levels rose 15' in about 4 days. Water clarity
in some areas went from 8' to 8". The fish don't know where to go or what
to do, or maybe the fish do and the fishermen don't!

It should start to pick-up by the end of the week as water levels start to
go down. The main lake has lots of trash floating be very careful running
the lake.

The water in the backs of the coves is much clearer than the main lake, look for these areas. Try to fish in the clearer water with a few days in the 60 degree range and sunshine fish should move up into some of the newly flooded trees and bushes. Try Senko's fished very slow or 14 - 3/8 brown jigs tipped with twin tailed Chompers. Fishing in and around the cover also try spinnerbaits in some areas with more stained water. Good Luck!

March 26, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  The weather is starting to straighten out and the water is starting to go down. The water temp is still a little cool but they are calling for some warmer nights so that should help get it going in the right direction. The lake is still stained but I don't think that it's enough to bother the fish. Talked to a guy yesterday and he said they had found a few red mushrooms, seems a little early to me but who knows.

LAKE LEVEL: 716.10
WATER TEMP: 45 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Lightly Stained.

BASS: Points seem to be the name of the game. Rogues are still the best bait going in 12' to 15' of water. With the COE pulling water as hard as they are fish the current breaks on the back sides of the secondary points. If the sun comes out a spinner bait will work on the flats next to the points. Remember the water is still pretty cold so you have to move the baits real slow. The water in the back ends of the coves is getting close to 50 deg. so a spinner bait will work, make sure there are shad or you will be wasting time. You can use a jig in the little creek channels in the backs on the breaks. My feelings are that the fishing is going to get better with each passing day.

CRAPPIE: With the high water the crappie fishing has been slow. The fish should start moving in the coves to the timbered flats real soon. Look for 8' to 10' of water next to the ditches and fish trees about 4' down with jigs. Remember our crappie spawn usually happens the second to third week in April.

WHITES: No Report.

CATFISH: Jugs fished in 18' of water set about 5' with little smokies has been working good in our area. We have been seeing a good number of catfish come in everyday. If we could just get our local catfishing expert Dick Caton to switch baits. I'm sure he has stock in a little smoky company somewhere.

Spoonbill: Slow

Steve Maxwell from Mexico, MO said the 'bill' fishing has slowed but they are still catching some nice fish. He witnessed 4 fish caught up near the 1st power lines upstream from the "House" on Saturday. Steve said the fish are running high in the water at about a depth of 12'. Most of the fish being caught are males which are beginning to arrive ahead of the females in anticipation of the spawn. A good male typically goes around 50# and the bigger 80 90# females will start moving once the water temperature gets above 60 degrees.

Crappie: Slow

The few crappies I heard caught this weekend were again caught at a depth of around 12' in deep water. The fish were taken on yellow and charteuse colored jigs and minnows. The water temperature is still too cold for any decent crappie fishing.

Catfish: Very Good

Corey Jackson and J.R. from St. Joseph, MO did real fishing for catfish this weekend. Their biggest fish was a 15# blue cat caught on the flats in the muddy water near a tributary. The duo used shad bellies for bait and caught 20 nice fish. The recent rains and subsequent runoff no doubt got the catfish hungry and moving.

March 19, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  Rain, rain, and more rain. We didn't get as much as the I 44 corridor but we got more than enough to last us till mid April. The lake is on a quick rise and I don't think anyone knows where it is going. With the tournaments that were out last weekend we could see a improvement in the fishing from day to day. On Saturday it took roughly 12 lbs. to win, and on Sunday it took 17 lbs. to win, so lets hope all this rain doesn't goof things up.

LAKE LEVEL: 711.50
WATER TEMP: 43 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Stained to dirty in the upper arms.

BASS: 8.27 lbs. big bass and a winning stringer of 17.15 lbs. made Charlie Eagers and Donnie Powell a pair of happy anglers Sunday. But then again Jim McCutchen and Lowell Waseher had some pretty good grins with 15.99 lbs. All the guys I talked to had the same story, stick baits. The winners were fishing the lower Grand and McCutchen and Waseher were working Big Tebo.
The fish seemed to be holding in 6' to 8' of water on secondary points with deep water real close by. This seems to be a solid pattern on Truman for this time of year. One thing to remember is if you catch a good fish in a area this time of year work that area over good as there should be more than one fish there.

CRAPPIE: Fish the bluff banks down from 20' to 25' with jigs. Seems the crappie are still holding deep on brush. I have not heard of any shallow fish yet but with the water temp in the low 40's that's not surprising.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: No Report.

CATFISH: The jug fishing has been good this week. Dick Caton brought in a 47 lb cat last weekend along with several others. He said little smokies are still the hot bait. Fish were taken off flats out of 17' to 20' of water.

March 18, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -

Water Temperature: Main Lake 46-48 River Arms 50-53

Water temperatures are warming up and so is the fishing! Best fishing seems to be in the river arms, James, Long Creek, and the Kings. Baits that are working in these areas are crankbaits, jigs, or shaky head worms.

Crankbaits that have been productive for me are in the crawdad patterns in green, red, browns and fire tiger. I am throwing Wiggle Warts, Bomber 6A's or 7 A's or any baits that will run 7' 10' deep.

Most of the fish are coming from the creek arms, just start out at the mouths or main lake points and work back into the creeks. Set the boat in approximately 10' 15' and cast at a 45-degree angle towards the bank, try to reel slow and stay in contact with the bottom.

If the sun is shining fish the sunny banks and if the wind is blowing fish the wind blown sunny banks. That water where the sun is shining is warmer than the shady side, which makes the fish more active.

If the crankbait bite is slow try a small jig in brown & black or shakey head worm 4" - 6' finesse worm in green pumpkin or watermelon colors. Also try 3/8 & 12 oz. chartreuse and white spinnerbaits fished the same way as the crankbait is also productive.

The main lake areas such as Baxter, Kimberling & the Dam are a little slower but quality fish are still being caught on suspended jerkbaits or Spooks over submerged timber.

Some smallmouths are starting to bite on gravel points in 15' 20' of water on twin tailed grubs & twin tailed Chompers fished slowly on the bottom. This bite isn't very consistent yet but will be in the weeks to come. Good Luck!

March 18, 2008 - Lake of the Ozsarks - Submitted by Old Oar House Inn Mile Marker 81 - Lake of the Ozark water elevation is 657.03'. Truman lake water elevation is 708.84'. Spillway water temperature is 42 degrees Fahrenheit. Water discharge from Truman Dam is 24,363 CFS through the turbines.

Spoonbill:

Happy days are here again! We had an outstanding opening weekend. Danny Lord from Fulton, MO had his limit by 10 minutes after midnight, two nice 50 and 60# fish. Bernie was down on the docks for a good portion of the afternoon screwing off while I was toiling in the kitchen and he said he saw over 100 fish tied to the sides of boats. I also saw an easy 25 fish the few times I was down pumping gas. My guess is these are the resident fish and once the water begins to warm you'll see a bunch more move in and take up new residence. Biggest one I saw was 72# during the limited time I was able to get out and take some pictures The current was moving real well which gets the fish moving. Best places to fish are the Dome Hole, right in front and just upstreaqm of the "House" and the power lines a few miles upstream always produce some great bills. Don't forget our two upcoming "bill" tournaments scheduled for the first and last Saturdays of April. I'll be posting your pictures on the web site all of spoonbill season.

Crappie:

Slow

The few crappie I heard caught this weekend were caught at a depth of around 12' in deep water. The fish were taken on yellow and charteuse colored jigs. Minnows are also a good bet. Once you find the proper depth of the fish mark your line and fish that depth hard.

Catfish:

Good

For the rest of the season the best place to catch catfish is right off the end of our docks on the backside of the cleaning station. There will be dozens of spoonbill cleaned every day until the season ends and the catfish will be gorging themselves from now until April 30th on the guts and roe. Livers and worms always do the trick. Later in the season this is the place to run a jug line late one weekend night. Last year there were two 35# flatheads caught on jugs one evening along with a real nice mess of channel and blue cats. Liver is the bait of choice when running jugs at the cleaning station.

Yes we are open !!!!!!

I was beginning to wonder if the winter was ever going to come to an end but here we are in the middle of March so it's time to go fishing again. I sure hope the fish read this report. This winter we saw some awesome crappie come in. If this is any indication of what we have to look for this year it is going to be fantastic. I will get back on course now and get my reports posted on Wednesdays like normal. We have the Joe Bass Tournament out this weekend so I am looking for some nice fish to be brought in. I wish I could give you real good report right now but with the water temp running about 40 deg. the fishing has been a little slow. There is one good thing about this time of the year we know that it is going to warm up. And if it's any help I talked to a buddy of mine last night and he said the turkeys are gobbling so that means spring has to be here.

LAKE LEVEL: 709.47
WATER TEMP: 42 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Stained in our area to dirty in the
upper arms.

CRAPPIE: The are a few crappie being caught off the bluffs in about 25' of water. Look for brush and deep water close by. Jigs are working the best. The Shawnee Bend area has been doing pretty good. Also the LT 2 area has been doing fair.

BASS: Slow and easy. Yep, that's the Rouge bite and I mean real slow and easy. The Pommie arm is the best just like it starts out every year. A jig will work on the bluff banks in the 10' to 15' of water here again slow and easy. I haven't heard of any fish starting to move to the backends yet.

WHITES: No Report.

CATFISH: We have seen a few catfish come in this week off jugs and trot lines this week. Little smokies have been working the best in our area. The fish have been on the flats in about 15' of water next to the creek channels. Seems like the depth varies everyday.

That's going to do it for this week from Sterett Creek Marina
