July 30, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  The weather has heated up and so has the fishing. It is kind of strange that when one species of fish slows down another takes off. The crappie fishing has slowed down a little but the bass fishing is about as good as I have seen it this year. The COE is still dropping the lake but the water color is still fantastic. We are getting low enough now that the whites should start moving back on the humps, we are starting to see some surface activity. I have started seeing the pods of shad instead of the big rafts which will also help with the whites and hybrids.

LAKE LEVEL: 710.50
WATER TEMP: 83 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to light stain.

BASS: If you like to bass fish or have a youngster that is getting started bass fishing now is the time to be on Truman. We are seeing allot of good quality fish along with a lots of smaller fish. The bottom bumpers are working as good as I have seen this year. Last night in the Hawg Fights Tim Blankenship and Tom Mc Govern brought in a winning stringer of fish weighing 15.09 lbs. Second went to Desmin Carl and Paul Curry with 12.29 lbs. They also had big fish weighing 5.72 lbs. Third went to Marty Watson and Doug Long with 10.90 lbs. This is pretty good for fishing 3 hours. The best bite is fishing points in 5' to 12' of water that break off into deep water. Big worms, baby brush hogs along with jig and frog were the top baits last night. Look for tree rows running off the points. There are a few fish starting to suspend in the deeper trees.

CRAPPIE: The crappie are still a little slow. We are starting to see fish come in off of the outside tree rows on the ends of the flats. These are the same tree rows you would fish if we were at normal pool. The lake is still about 6' high so you are fishing in 23' to 25' instead of 17'. Fish minnows down about 12' to 15'. I talked to several people that said they were catching small fish in 8' to 10' but when they went deeper they caught better fish. This is kind of backwards from the norm which would be the better fish is the first fish to bite in the tree. There is also a bite on the bluffs in 30' to 40' of water with the fish down about 20'.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We are starting to see more whites come in all the time. The best bite is still on spoons off the humps. G 4 has been one of the better areas. It seems the bite is better in the evenings. We are seeing some surface activity also. The fish aren't staying up for long periods yet but if you see them surface and they go down run a crank bait in the area.

CATFISH: Trot lines are still the best of the best. Cut shad and black perch are still the best baits. Set lines in 6' to 16' of water off the flat points. Fish as close to deep water as you can. With the warm temps you need to run lines more frequently.

July 27, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -

Water Temp: 85-87 ~ Lake Level: 922.95

In the Kimberling City, Dam and Campbell Points areas the fish are still being caught early and all day if the skies are overcast. Fish main lake points in 8' 20'with 4" 5" twin tailed Chompers in watermelon candy, watermelon red, or watermelon purple on 3/8 or 12 oz. jigheads. The same fish can be caught on lightweight Carolina rigs with Chompers, Baby Brush Hogs in the same colors.

There are still several fish on flat gravel main lake points around submerged willows and we are catching them on Peanut-Butter & Jelly colors tipped with twin tailed Chompers or Paca Chunks and also on brown & purple tube jigs. Don't forget to rig a rod with 3/16 oz. Shakey head finesse worms to fish out in front of the submerged brush in 10' 15'.

In the river arms the same patterns are working in the mid sections. The upper rivers are producing quality largemouths throughout the day on deep diving crankbaits in shad colored patterns. Also using football jigs and Carolina rigs with brush hogs or big worms in greem pumpkin and channels. Fish have been 10' 20' deep on the roll offs or on top pf the humps and flats. Good Luck!!

July 23, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -

With the water continuing to fall the lake area looks a whole lot different. You can see rip rap, use parking lots and walk to the marinas. We are not seeing any drift on the lake at all, and best of all we are seeing allot of fish come in. We saw more better fish come in last weekend than we have all season. The cleaning station looked like it does during the spawn season. The water clarity is the best it has been all season so I would look for the fishing to remain as is for a good while.

LAKE LEVEL: 714.5
WATER TEMP: 83 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to a light stain.

BASS: Last night in the Hawg Fights Doug and Ozzie Wallace found a bunch of fish ( they had a little problem finding their boat) but they still managed to win with 12.53 lbs. Second went to Jack Hockett and Clint Rayburn with 11.63 lbs. Third went to Marty Watson and Doug Long with 9.77 lbs. Fourth by one hundredth was Larry Wright with 7.27 lbs. Big bass went to John Pollit and Howard Love with 4.57 lbs. The patterns were pretty well all the same but the baits changed with the anglers. Willows on the points in 4' to 8' of water was the best bite. Either main lake or secondary didn't seem to matter. The baits went from jigs to big worms to skirted grubs. The top water bite started about 8 o'clock.

CRAPPIE: I would really hate to guess how many limits of crappie we saw come in last weekend. I talked to several anglers that said they didn't keep anything under 11", now that's some good crappie fishing. We weighed one limit of 15 fish and it went 15 lbs. Minnows were by far the best bait. It was hard to pick a pattern because the fish are all over. There are fish in the willows in 8' to 10' of water about 7' down. There was also a good bite on the bluffs in 30+' with the fish holding in the 16' to 18' range. The T 6 area along with the Osage seems to be the hottest areas.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Last night the guys said they saw surface activity. It seems that the shad are finally starting to get in their little pods over the humps and the whites seem to be following. With the lake getting down to a lower level and the COE running water I think this will be the week that they really get going. I would check all the usual haunts. There were some fish caught off of G 4 last weekend.

CATFISH: Jugs and trot lines are still producing catfish. With the water temp still warming you have to check lines more often so you don't loose fish. Cut shad and hot dogs were the best baits this week. Dick Caton was fishing with Truman and I think Truman ate all his little smokies this week. Lines set on the flats in 10' to 12' of water at about 6' has been taking fish. You want deeper water close by.

July 16, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -

Finally a break in the weather. We have had no rain this week and it's Wednesday, that is really strange. The COE is still pulling the lake down and even though they are running in the high 40's the lake is in fantastic shape. The water clarity is the best I have seen it in a long time and that is lake wide. The level is getting down to where the whites and hybrids should start getting on the humps. The shad are still running on the banks and I would hope that they will start pulling out over the deeper water and get the whites and hybrids to start surfacing with some regularity. All in all the fishing here on Truman is real good. The bass and crappie are making up for any lake of a bite on the whites right now.

LAKE LEVEL: 720.10
WATER TEMP: 81 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Clear to light stain.

BASS: After the weekend with some of the 20 lb.+ stringer weights that were posted I looked for some heavy stringers to be weighed in last night in the Hawg Fights. There were lots of fish caught but the best weight turned in was 8.88 lbs. caught by Mike and Dave Kephart. Second went to Steve Blake and Jim Lehares with 8.69 lbs. Third was Ernie Cox and Russell Beck with 7.72 lbs. Big bass was 4.44 lb caught by Crist Fanning and Terry Close. The pattern was the same for everyone, fishing points in 4' to 10' of water. Big worms and brush hogs were the two hot baits. Steve Blake did tell me they had some fish that were starting to suspend. Right now you will catch allot of little fish on the points so if you have a youngster that's just getting into bass fishing now would be a good time to get them out there. Heck it's even fun for us old guys. If anyone sees Ozzie tell him Doug is still waiting at the ramp.

CRAPPIE: Even with the high water the crappie have moved to their summer pattern. 20' to 25' of water fished down about 16' with minnows has produced allot of limits this week. The fish are starting to suspend in both the cedars and the hard woods. Fish are on the flats just like when the water is at a normal level. If you are fishing the bluff banks you will be looking at 30' to 40' but the fish are still holding at about 16'.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: Saturday we saw some real nice whites come in. These fish came on spoons in the KK Island area. Since the sun came out they must have gotten confused. I think by the weekend that the water level on the humps will be low enough that these fish will really get going.

CATFISH: Trot lines and jugs on the flats in 12' to 16' of water baited with cut shad or perch is the winning ticket right now. Set baits about 8' for best results.

July 11, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -

Water Temp: 79-82

Lake Level: 926.68

Water temperatures are much cooler than normal for this time of the year which is keeping the fish shallower. Main lake areas such as the Dam, Kimberling, Baxter and Campbell Point the fish are still relatively shallow due the current temperatures.

We have been catching quality smallmouths 10' - 20' deep on main lake flat gravel points. The best bite has for us has been early for smallmouths on 3/8 oz. to 1/2 oz. football jigs tipped with twintailed Chompers or 4" - 5" smoke singletail grubs on 1/4 oz. heads. Carolina rigs are working rigged with 5" twintailed Chompers in watermelon red, green pumpkin colors.

Kentuckys have also been in these same areas after the sun gets up. When the bite gets slow back out to 20' - 25' and try dropshotting worms in watermelon candy, plum, and watermelon red, fishing them just off the bottom. Most of the fish we are catching have been 20' - 25' deep on bottom or suspending at the same depth over deeper water around the deeper boat docks on the main lake.

The river arms are also producing well with the Upper James producing the best at this time. Flip willow trees and bushes early with 7" - 9" Texas rigged worms in plum or red shad colors. Also having success on football jigs and Carolina rigs as noted in the main lake area. Look for gravel inside points where the current is running over the top of them. Some fish are also being caught on deep diving crankbaits such as Fat Free Shads and Strike King's Sexy Shad Series 6. When fishing the willows look for isolated trees and bushes on main river flats where the water depth is 5' - 10'. Jigs and tube baits flipped in the the bushes will also work well.

July 9, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  The lake is finally getting down to where things are useable again. It is our understanding that the COE is going to start opening some of the regular ramps on the lake. Even with the receding water and the rain from last night the lake is in great shape color wise. As most folks know the fish on Truman like current flow and they have that so we are looking for some real good fishing. The drift is not to bad but I would still advise caution when running.

LAKE LEVEL: 724.94
WATER TEMP: 79 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Light stain to stained.

BASS: Main lake and secondary flat points are producing the best right now. A Texas rigged worm or a Carolina rig fished in 8' to 10' of water is working. Fish the willow bushes on the ends of the points. Top water is producing fish on the flats. Try a Pop R or a Zara Spook off the edge of the flooded grass points. As long as you are fishing a point at this time you should be able to catch fish. Don't be afraid to fish the current breaks right now with a big worm.

CRAPPIE: We talked to Marty Zych yesterday and he said he had been catching alot of big fish up the Osage. They aren't stacked up on every tree but he said if you fish enough trees you can pick up a real good limit. Fish are on the flats in 20' of water down about 10'. Minnows by far are the best bait. There were several limits brought in last weekend doing the same thing in Little Tebo.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We have been seeing a little surface activity starting on whites this week. I look for these fish to really start later in the week as the water recedes. There is just a little to much water on the humps to get them going there right now but with the strong current flow that we have they will be there. We are starting to see more shad balling up on the surface which should get the hybrids going.

CATFISH: Trot lines have been producing some nice channels and blues this week. Cut shad and perch have been the best baits. Lines set in 20' of water on the flats has been the best bet the last few days.

July 2, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  With the state the lake is in right now it is hard to give a fishing report due to the lack of anglers. Normally we get to talk to many anglers each week so that we can keep you updated as to what is going on. This week we can report there are many angry fisherman because they can't go fishing due to the high water. Being the fact that they have to drive so many extra miles to a high water ramp or the fact of having to push drift out of the way to get out of a ramp. The good thing is that if you go through all the bull and do get in the water you can catch fish. The COE is running some water which our fish here on Truman enjoy.

LAKE LEVEL: 727.36
WATER TEMP: 78 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Light stain.

BASS: There were some tournaments out last weekend posting so good weights. I heard of a couple of 20 + lb. stringers. The main lake and secondary flats are holding some good fish. These fish are in the grass and top water baits are working on them. Pop'Rs, Spooks and buzz baits are top of the list. Fish the flooded grass in 3' to 5' of water.
With the running water I would look for the main lake and secondary flat points in 5' to 8' of water. A big worm or a Carolina rigged baby brush hog should really get going.

CRAPPIE: The crappie fishermen are having a tough time of finding their trees right now. Steve Blake was catching fish on the current breaks fishing a minnow right off the bottom in about 20' of water. This might be the time to start wind drifting the main channels with minnows.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: This week there has been a little surface activity in the evenings with the white bass. They have been up in the dam area just before dark. Here again with the water flow these fish should start stacking up in their normal places. I think it will be the later part of the week do to the fact that there is to much water on the humps right now.

CATFISH: No Report.

June 25, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -

For those of you looking for information.. Truman Lake is going down almost a 1/2 foot per day.

The fishing continues to be excellent.

The dam is generating power. The COE increased the flow yesterday to 45000 cfs and is scheduled to increase again today to 48000 cfs. Forecast calls for 48000 cfs again Thurs and Fri.. If we continue to drop at this rate we will have the campground road back early Friday and the boat ramp Sunday (with no additional rain and no decrease in flow from the dam.

Our current level at 6:15AM is 726.56 (20.56' above normal pool.)

The walkway to the Marina is still unusable and we are boating people back and forth.

The boat ramp is closed due to the debris and high water (top of the ramp is 724.5). The high water ramp at Shawnee Bend (just across the dam) is open.

The main road to the campground is under water (about 1 foot) at the turn into the campground.

The main road to the Marina is open.

The Motel is open and operational.

BASS: Look for the bass on flat points in 3' to 5'' of water. Buzz baits and spinner baits are working along with brush hogs and big worms. Use a light worm weight to get over the flooded grass. Sinko's are another good choice. The secondary points back in the coves are a good starting point.

CRAPPIE: The crappie are still holding in the cedars and hedge trees about 8' to 12' deep. minnows are the best bait. Look for trees on the flats that are just starting to pop out of the water. I have heard of several limits of crappie coming out of Big Tebo in the Clear Creek area.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: We have seen a lot of bid whites and hybrids come in this week. With the COE running water the fishing for these fish is next to none. Jigging spoons are the best along with sassy shad on a 1/2 oz. head. Fish the humps, look for about 20' of water.

CATFISH: No report.

If we get the boat ramp open this weekend we will run the Hawg Fights Tuesday night.

The walkway to the Marina is unusable and we are boating people back and forth.

The boat ramp is being used by a few (top of the ramp is 724.5) but you will get wet launching.

The main road to the campground is under water and the campground is closed.

The main road to the Marina will start to go under at 727.5

The Motel is open and operational. The COE has opened the high water ramp at Shawnee Bend (by the dam).

June 17, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -

Water Temp: 75-79

Lake Level: 927.80

Not many changes in the fishing conditions since last weeks report.
The best bite seems to be early in the morning then the bite picks back up after noon.

Main lake gravel flats and points are working best at 25' - 35' deep on drop shot 4" worms or night crawlers. Worm colors: watermelon candy, plum, and green pumpkin. Drop your bait down to the bottom then reel it up about 2' - 3', if you feel anything, give it a jerk. 34 oz. football jigs tipped with twin tailed trailers will also work in peanut butter & jelly, brown purple flash or green pumpkin. Keep a topwater bait handy some of the fish are schooling early and later in the day.

The drop shot works well at any speed, but a slow presentation is best. You can drop it down to fish in deep water, tighten up your line and shake the worm right in front to the bass. When you shake the rod tip a little the bait shakes more than on any other rig and really entices the bass. The fish are really grouped up so when you get one bite you will usually get a few more in the same area.

When the bite slows down in the morning back out into deeper water around 50' 60' but keep your baits at that 25' 30' depth. The fish will suspend out over deeper water but will continue to be around the same depth.

The river arms are producing some excellent fishing opportunities with quality largemouths being caught. Most of the fish this past week are being caught off the points with the current coming over them. Due to the recent rains there are some areas with strong current coming over the points in some areas. Fish the main river flats and points that have a channel or deeper water close by. 12 & 34 oz football jigs tipped with twin tailed grubs and shakey head worms, in plum green pumpkin, and watermelon red. Good Luck!!

June 11, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -

More rain and high water but there is some really good fishing going on right now. The bass fishing is as good as I have seen it and the crappie fishing is not to far behind. I really don't know how high the lake will go but as always when Truman is high the fishing is good.

LAKE LEVEL: 718.67
WATER TEMP: 76 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Stained in our area. Upper arms
muddy.

BASS: Last night the fish had not reacted to the rise and seemed to be holding in the 4' to 5' range. The flooded willow bushes ( not the green ones ) seemed to be holding the fish. The Hawg Fights were won by Jack Hockett and Clint Rayburn with 12.12 lbs. Second was Nate and Kyle White with 11.83 lbs. 3rd was Ernie Cox and ( the fish finden Russell Beck ) with 10.36. 4th. was Kevin and Desmin Carl with 9.46 lbs. Big bass went to Chuck Stroman and Tom Novinska with 4.96. Brush hogs, beavers and big worms are the top picks for bait right now. The fish seem to be holding on the flat points. I look for them to head for the grass in the next day or so.

CRAPPIE: Summer pattern ! 6' to 8' down in the hedge and cedars. For some reason the hardwoods haven't started yet. The fish are on the flats and water depth is not that critical. Minnows by far are the top bait.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: The COE has the water turned off right now so the white bass fishing has slowed a little. Hopefully they will turn it on by the weekend and these fish will really take off. There has been a few fish caught off the point at G 4. These were spoon fish.

CATFISH: Last weekend we saw lots of good catfish come in. Several big flat heads were caught using black perch. The fish were taken off points in 6' to 15' of water. There were also channels and blues on trot lines with leeches. With the rising water I look for the channels and blues to go shallow on the flats. Floating lines should stat picking up allot of fish.

June 10, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -

Water Temp: 73-78

Lake Level: 928.38

Table Rock's bass are in a post spawn pattern, moving from the shallows to deeper areas in the lake. The best bite for me seems to be off long flat main lake points in the Dam, Kimberling City and Campbell Points areas in 22' 30'. Fish can be caught on drop shot rig using 4" worms in watermelon candy, plum, purple or watermelon red. We are also catching them on Carolina rigs, rigged with French fries, lizards and baby brush hogs in watermelon candy, green pumpkin and pumpkin colors seem to be working best.

We are getting some topwater action early in the day and late in the afternoon in these same areas, also try some bluff end points using Zara spooks, Redfins, and Pop R's in shad pattern colors. If cloudy, try the black shad pattern and high skies use the blue shad pattern.

Most of the fish we are catching are Kentucky bass with some smallmouths mixed in, casting your topwater into the flooded trees and working the bait back out towards the boat or paralleling the bait close to the outside tree line.

On the main lake we are catching some largemouths flipping bushes and brush on secondary points in the creeks. If the water levels decrease the flipping fish should be easier to locate. With so much submerged brush, trees and bushes that it's hard to pattern where they will be on a day-to-day basis.

Fish do not have eyelids and will seek shade on clear sunny days and taking any opportunity to shield themselves under a tree. The shadow of a tree provides the fish relief from the midday sun and attracts bass and bluegills in like a magnet. Good Luck!!

June 4, 2008 - Truman - Submitted by Sterett Creek Marina -  The fishing here on Truman remains good even with the wind and rain. The weather has muddied up the Osage and the upper Grand but Big Tebo and Little Tebo are doing great. All species of fish are hitting so if you are planning a fishing trip now is the time to get out and enjoy some of the best action of the season.

LAKE LEVEL: 713.34
WATER TEMP: 68 deg.
WATER CLARITY: Both Tebo's stained. Upper Grand
and Upper Osage muddy. Both Pommie's heavy stain.

BASS: This is probably the best time of the year to bass fish on Truman. Most any bait will work and the fish are in 3' of water or less and hungry. Last nights hawg fights were won by Ernie Cox and Russell Beck with a 14.24 lb stringer. Second went to Howard Love and John Pollitt with 13.64 and a big bass weighing 4.27 lbs. Third went to Jack Hockett and Clint Rayburn with 11.74 lbs. There were more fish weighed in last night than any other Hawg fight this year. Most of the fish were in 4' or less of water and in the flooded bushes. Brush hogs, beavers and worms worked well along with buzz baits. The fish seem to be 1/2 way back in the coves on the flats next to secondary points.

CRAPPIE: The crappie have moved to the summer pattern and are feeding up after the spawn. Minnows are the top producer when fished in the 8' to 10' range. Best fishing has been in the tree rows in 15' to 20' of water. Cedar and hedge trees seem to be the best and the fish are right in the middle of them. Take plenty of hooks and sinkers.

WHITES & HYBRIDS: There are good numbers of whites and hybrids coming in everyday. Jigging spoons are working the best at this point. The cemetery and the weir are the hot spots this week. There are also fish coming off KK Island. Fish are running in the 16' of water range on the humps.

CATFISH: Trot lines and jugs are both producing good numbers of catfish. There have been several nice flat heads come in this week caught on black perch. Leeches have been working on the shallow flats on floating lines with stages set about a foot deep. Make sets close to ditches or creek channels for bet results.

June 3, 2008 - Table Rock Lake - Submitted by Pete Wenner's Professional Guide Service -

Water Temp: 72-75

Lake Level: 929.17

Fish are starting to get on summer time patterns. There has been a good top water early mornings & late afternoons, and on overcast days. Fish the main lake and secondary points with Zara Spooks, Jointed Redfins, also chuggers and Pop R's. Some good quality largemouths are being caught this way. Try some 4" 5" swimbaits in shad colors in the same areas.

Fish are also biting Carolina rigged French Frys, lizards, and brush hogs, and football jigs in 10' 20' off the outside of the tree line and bushes. This pattern seems good until about mid morning and then the bite slows.

On the main lake, Dam, Kimberling City area to Aunts Creek and to Campbell Point just back out to deeper water and fish a drop shot rig 28' 35' on bottom or just drop off the bottom.

When the bite slows down in the river arms: Long Creek, Kings River, & James River flip a Sweet Beaver, tube, or jig in watermelon red, green pumpkin, or like colors in the submerged bushes on and near the flats on the main river. Look for willows, trees, and bushes to try to key on.
Good Luck!

WATER CLARITY: Heavy stain to dirty.

BASS: The bass fishing that stated out pretty good there a week or so ago turned around and went the other way. One of the local bass clubs had a tournament out Sunday and showed how slow fishing can get with a major cold front and rising water. Two fish weighing a little over 6 lbs. won the tournament. Second place went to Ron Tadkin with a fish weighing a little over 5 lbs. which was also big bass. There were fish caught on jerk baits and there were fish caught on jigs. The main thing is that most of the fish are hanging on the secondary points, and the farther back the point the better off you are. If the shad are not around the points neither are the fish.

CRAPPIE: No report this week. With the high water and all the rain no one has been out chasing crappie.

CATFISH: The good thing about high rising water is that the catfish love it. We have seen allot of catfish come in is week. Cut shad and little smokies are still the top two baits on this end of the lake. Jugs seem to be working better than anything right now. The fish are moving up the backends of the creeks. Look for 8' of water close to the creek channel.

Now you people who read this report every week know that I don't plug very many tournaments. Well I have to make an exception for this one. We have a very sick young lady that needs our help and they are going to put on a benefit crappie tournament called Mandy's Mission for her. It is going to be April 26 here at Sterett Creek. There will be a auction and fish fry after the tournament with music and a DJ. If you would like more info you can contact Sam or Brenda Burris at 417-309-0181 or you can contact Sterett Creek Marina

Lets get out and try to help this young lady !!!!!!!!

Till next week.
